We study on selecting the kernel weighting function in smoothing moment conditions for dependent processes. For hypothesis testing in Generalized Method of Moments or Generalized Empirical Likelihood context, we find that smoothing moment conditions by Bartlett kernel delivers smallest size distortions based on empirical Edgeworth expansions of the long-run variance estimator.

The likelihood-based inference in a nonlinear generalized mixed model often requires computing moments of truncated multivariate normal random variables. Many methods have been proposed for the computation using a recurrence relation or the moment generating function; however, these methods rely on high dimensional numerical integrations. The numerical method is known to be inefficient for high dimensional integral in accuracy. Besides the accuracy, the methods demand too much computing time to use them in practical analyses. In this note, a moment calculation method is proposed under an assumption of a certain covariance structure that occurred mostly in generalized mixed models. The method needs only low dimensional numerical integrations.

We consider distribution, reliability and moment of ratio in two independent beta random variables X and Y, and reliability and $K^{th}$ moment of ratio are represented by a mathematical generalized hypergeometric function. We introduce an approximate maximum likelihood estimate(AML) of reliability and right-tail probability in the beta distribution.

This study was carried out to select optimal probability distribution based on design accumulated monthly mean inflow from the viewpoint of drought by Gamma (GAM), Generalized extreme value (GEV), Generalized logistic (GLO), Generalized normal (GNO), Generalized pareto (GPA), Gumbel (GUM), Normal (NOR), Pearson type 3 (PT3), Wakeby (WAK) and Kappa (KAP) distributions for the observed accumulative monthly mean inflow of Chungjudam. L-moment ratio was calculated using observed accumulative monthly mean inflow. Parameters of 10 probability distributions were estimated by the method of L-moments with the observed accumulated monthly mean inflow. Design accumulated monthly mean inflows obtained by the method of L-moments using different methods for plotting positions formulas in the 10 probability distributions were compared by relative mean error (RME) and relative absolute error (RAE) respectively. It has shown that the design accumulative monthly mean inflow derived by the method of L-moments using Weibull plotting position formula in WAK and KAP distributions were much closer to those of the observed accumulative monthly mean inflow in comparison with those obtained by the method of L-moment with the different formulas for plotting positions in other distributions from the viewpoint of RME and RAE.

It is already known from the previous study that flood seems to have heavier tail. Therefore, to make prediction of future extreme label, some agreement of tail behavior of extreme data is highly required. The LH-moments estimation method, the generalized form of L-moments is an useful method of characterizing the upper part of the distribution. LH-moments are based on linear combination of higher order statistics. In this study, we have formulated LH-moments of five distributions useful in hydrology such as, two types of three parameter kappa distributions, beta-${\kappa}$ distribution, beta-p distribution and a generalized Gumbel distribution. Using LH-moments reduces the undue influences that small sample may have on the estimation of large return period events.

This paper introduces the four parameter new generalized inverse Weibull distribution and investigates the potential usefulness of this model with application to reliability data from engineering studies. The new extended model has upside-down hazard rate function and provides an alternative to existing lifetime distributions. Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived that include explicit expressions for the moments, moment generating function, quantile function and the moments of order statistics. The estimation of model parameters are performed by the method of maximum likelihood and evaluate the performance of maximum likelihood estimation using simulation.

The quadratic inference functions (QIF) method proposed by Qu et al. (2000) and the generalized method of moments (GMM) for marginal regression analysis of longitudinal data with time-dependent covariates proposed by Lai and Small (2007) both are the methods based on generalized method of moment (GMM) introduced by Hansen (1982) and both use generalized estimating equations (GEE). Lai and Small (2007) divided time-dependent covariates into three types such as: Type I, Type II and Type III. In this paper, we compared these methods in the case of Type II and Type III in which full covariates conditional mean assumption (FCCM) is violated and interested in whether they can improve the results of GEE with independence working correlation. We show that in the marginal regression model with Type II time-dependent covariates, GMM Type II of Lai and Small (2007) provides more ecient result than QIF and for the Type III time-dependent covariates, QIF with independence working correlation and GMM Type III methods provide the same results. Our simulation study showed the same results.

The 2017 Pohang earthquake afflicted more significant economic losses than the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake, even if these earthquakes had a similar moment magnitude. This phenomenon could be due to local site conditions that amplify ground motions. Local site effects could be estimated from methods using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio, standard spectral ratio, and the generalized inversion technique. Since the generalized inversion method could estimate the site effect effectively, this study modeled the site effects in the Korean peninsula using the generalized inversion technique and the Fourier amplitude spectrum of ground motions. To validate the method, the site effects estimated for seismic stations were tested using recorded ground motions, and a ground motion prediction equation was developed without considering site effects.

In this article, we proposed a new three-parameter distribution called generalized half-logistic Poisson distribution with a failure rate function that can be increasing, decreasing or upside-down bathtub-shaped depending on its parameters. The new model extends the half-logistic Poisson distribution and has exponentiated half-logistic as its limiting distribution. A comprehensive mathematical and statistical treatment of the new distribution is provided. We provide an explicit expression for the $r^{th}$ moment, moment generating function, Shannon entropy and $R{\acute{e}}nyi$ entropy. The model parameter estimation was conducted via a maximum likelihood method; in addition, the existence and uniqueness of maximum likelihood estimations are analyzed under potential conditions. Finally, an application of the new distribution to a real dataset shows the flexibility and potentiality of the proposed distribution.
This paper reviews various bulk-type cloud microphysics parameterizations (BCMPs). BCMP, predicting the moments of size distribution of hydrometeors, parameterizes the grid-resolved cloud and precipitation processes in atmospheric models. The generalized gamma distribution is mainly applied to represent the hydrometeors size distribution in BCMPs. BCMP can be divided in three different methods such as single-moment, double-moment, and triple-moment approaches depending on the number of prognostic variables. Single-moment approach only predicts the hydrometeors mixing ratio. Double-moment approach predicts not only the hydrometeors mixing ratio but also the hydrometeors number concentration. Triple-moment approach predicts the dispersion parameter of hydrometeors size distribution through the prognostic reflectivity, together with the number concentrations and mixing ratios of hydrometeors. Triple-moment approach is the most time expensive method because it has the most number of prognostic variables. However, this approach can allow more flexibility in representing hydrometeors size distribution relative to single-moment and double-moment approaches. At the early stage of the development of BMCPs, warm rain processes were only included. Ice-phase categories such as cloud ice, snow, graupel, and hail were included in BCMPs with prescribed properties for densities and sedimentation velocities of ice-phase hydrometeors since 1980s. Recently, to avoid fixed properties for ice-phase hydrometeors and ad-hoc category conversion, the new approach was proposed in which rimed ice and deposition ice mixing ratios are predicted with total ice number concentration and volume.
