  • Modular Construction is regarded as having enhanced safety compared to traditional construction since most of modular manufacturing process in plants. Unlike general consideration for safety in modular construction, several industrial accident data and studies have pointed out that the accident rate of modular construction is not enough less as much as the practitioners have expected. It means that there is a clear need for improvement of safety management in modular construction. To enhance safety, it is necessary to identify the type and cause of accident through accident cases in order to prevent safety accident in advance. In this consideration, this study analyzed the types and causes of accidents through root cause analysis procedure with accident cases of U.S. OSHA. The classification was carried out in the order of process type, accident type and cause of accident. By following the classification criteria in this study, the causal factor was derived and the root cause map was created. Based on the analysis results, cross-analysis was conducted and it is shown that activity characteristics of modular construction are related to safety accidents. In addition, prevention methods to reduce safety accident by major activity are presented in terms of organizational, educational and technical aspects. This study contributes that the result can be used as the basic safety management in the manufacturing and construction process of modular construction.

  • The article is devoted to analyzing the police influence on road safety formation. The globalization processes confirm the study's relevance, provoking population mobility and the need to increase freight traffic. The study aims to identify the factors that affect road safety and the activities of the police and the EU transport safety units. An empirical analysis using factor analysis, correlation analysis, and general scientific methods of cognition were carried out to achieve the goal. The analysis results found that the number of police officers affects road safety, but not in all countries, which confirms the importance of other factors. Based on the analysis results of the scientific literature, the factors affecting transport safety are legislative regulation, the use of innovative technologies, transport infrastructure, geography, and psycho-physical and emotional drivers factors. It has been proved that the police authorities and units cannot fully ensure transport safety in the European Union because the safety is formed by a complex of actions by the state and road users.

  • Due to the recent climate change caused by global warming, weather changes in a different pattern from the past have occurred, and the increase in seawater temperature has led to an increase in the size and intensity of typhoons. Accordingly, there is an increasing need for bitts that can be used to secure mooring safety of the ship when a sudden gust occurs. Based on 12 scenarios of a mooring safety evaluation program, this study analyzed the criteria for arranging bollard and bitt, and analyzed the sensitivity of mooring safety when using storm bitts. As a result of the evaluation, it was analyzed that the mooring factor value decreased compared to the general mooring line arrangement when the fore and stern breastline were added to the bitts for gusts. The results of this study can be used as basic data for proposing storm bitts arrangements for gusts in consideration of the characteristics of berth ships and ports. From the perspective of ship operators, storm bitts at the pier will be an effective method for securing the ship's mooring safety in case of a gust of wind.

  • The purpose of this study is to reduce the probability of occurrence of electric fires as a preemptive preventive measure, and to strengthen the capability of preventing electric fires by strengthening the cooperative function between electric fire-related departments and establishing a cooperative system. In this study, the general aspects of electric fires were identified by reviewing the literature such as ignition mechanisms of electric fires. And the major electrical fires that occurred in the last 10 years were classified into ignition factors (short circuit, overload/overcurrent, and earth leakage/ground fault) and ignition sources (wiring/wiring appliances, electrical equipment/household appliances). And the 4M technique was used to analyze the potential causes of ignition at the fire site and to suggest preventive measures. In the case In this study, out of 48 electrical fires in the past 10 years, 16 short-circuit fires, 3 overload/overcurrent fires, 3 short-circuit and earth fault fires, 16 fires in wiring/wiring appliances, and 10 fires in electrical equipment/home appliances classified as cases. And prevention measures were presented in terms of human, machine, media, and management by using the 4M technique. For the preemptive prevention of electric fires, strengthening the compulsory electrical safety inspection and making it mandatory to report when new or expanding electric facilities, charging a fee for electric safety inspection for detached houses and granting benefits subject to inspection completion, improvement of the electric safety voluntary inspection table and safety indications; It was suggested as a policy to organize and operate electrical safety inspection personnel in a two-person team (mixed), establish a close work cooperation system with related organizations, and strengthen electrical safety education and publicity.

  • The dispatch law has a negative impact on safety management at construction sites as the command and command relationship to safety assistants of the original contractor are applied to the dispatch law. Purpose: The purpose is to study the importance and impact of safety management according to the dispatch law, and to propose a direction for safety management so that safety assistants can actively and proactively prevent accidents. In this study, we used AHP analysis techniques for experts to achieve the final goal and verified the suitability through logistic regression. Method: AHP analysis technique is used for experts and workers and logistic regression analysis is conducted. Result: The result of analyzing scenario data where the dispatch method can be applied showed the importance in the order of education (SkillUp education), management (work-time management) and direct instructions (feedback instruction). In logistic regression analysis, feedback is the factor that affects direct instruction, and in education management, the ratio of education management is 3.42 times lower than that of other groups when only the team leader of the company gives work instructions. Conclusion: The management of feedback and education is more important than anything else within the range in which the dispatch method is not applied, and the expansion of non-face-to-face online education is judged to avoid the violation of dispatch method because the expansion of non-face-to-face online education due to covid 19 recently has brought more various target for safety education.

  • Recently, there is a growing interest in promoting safe and convenient roadway and traffic conditions for elderly drivers. This paper analyzed the driving characteristics, self recognition, and any inconvenience of elderly drivers over age 65 through an extensive survey, and drew some action plans to improve the driving conditions for elderly drivers. Survey results showed that the major trip purposes of the elderly driver were found to be commuting(50%) and business(33%), and this pattern was similar to the general drivers. The elderly drivers are interested in "safety", but "brand recognition" was the more important factor for the general drivers in the process of vehicle selection. The elderly drivers had no technical skill difference in driving as compared to the general drivers, but they fully recognized the physical deterioration such as reaction time and sight distance. In addition, the elderly drivers had a tendency to feel psychological contraction as to high workload driving conditions, thus it was necessary to make safe driving conditions by improving the design elements of traffic control devices on the roadways including visibility.

  • A key component of aviation safety is to eliminate the errors in commercial aircraft air data systems to ensure stable aviation operation. Although the technical aspects such as the maintenance and inspection play a pertinent role, human errors are expected to have a similar or even larger influence on the aviation safety. Aviation maintenance and inspection tasks are often performed by a complex organization, in which individuals perform a variety of tasks in an environment involving time pressure, sparse feedback, and complex conditions. These situational characteristics, combined with the general tendency of human error, may lead to various types of errors, which may have critical consequences such as accidents and loss of life. For instance, if an amber message "IAS DISAGREE" is displayed on the primary flight display while the aircraft is rolling on the runway to takeoff, the crew immediately performs a rejected takeoff operation and troubleshoots the air data system. This paper proposes alternative approaches to address the occurrence of defects due to the human factors involved in the practical processes of the air data system of commercial aircraft.

  • Background: The present objective was to verify whether burnout (emotional exhaustion [EE], depersonalization [DP] and low professional efficacy [PE]) is a risk factor for long-term sickness absence (LTSA; 30 consecutive days) from the teaching role. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study with two years of follow-up that investigated 509 elementary and high-school teachers. Burnout was identified by Maslach Burnout Inventory. Poisson regression with robust variance was used to adjust for possible confounders. Results: The incidence of LTSA was 9.4%. High EE levels were associated with LTSA in the crude analysis, but the association lost statistical significance after adjustments (for sex, age, perception of work-life balance, general self-rated health, chronic pain and depression). High DP levels were associated with this outcome, even after all adjustments (relative risk = 1.80; 95% confidence interval: 1.05-3.09). Low PE levels were not related to LTSA. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need to improve teachers' work conditions to reduce burnout, particularly DP, and its consequences.
