  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of motor ability on mastery motivation in children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Sixty children with cerebral palsy (5~12 years) and their parents participated in the study. Data on general characteristics and disability condition, Gross Motor Functional Classification System, Manual Ability Classification System, and The Dimensions of Mastery questionnaire were collected for this study. Independent t-test, and ANOVA were used for analysis of the effect of The Dimensions of Mastery questionnaire according to general and disability condition, Gross Motor Functional Classification System, and Manual Ability Classification System. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine the effects of Gross Motor Functional Classification System and Manual Ability Classification System on The Dimensions of Mastery questionnaire. SPSS win. 22.0 was used and Tukey was used for post hoc analysis, level of statistical significance was less than 0.05. Results: The Dimensions of Mastery questionnaire score showed statistically significant difference according to gender, region, type, disability rating, Gross Motor Functional Classification System, and Manual Ability Classification System (p<0.05). Gross Motor Functional Classification System and Manual Ability Classification System were the effect factor on The Dimensions of Mastery questionnaire significantly (p<0.05). • Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the concept of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Methods: The hybrid model by Schwarz-Barcott and Kim was used to analyze the characteristics of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Results: Transfer anxiety was defined by the following attributes: 1) stress concerning the adaptation process, 2) concern about the child's condition worsening due to the parent's caregiving, and 3) involuntary changes in daily life due to the treatment. Transfer anxiety has the following antecedents: 1) uncertainty; 2) a lack of knowledge about the illness, medical devices, and caregiving; and 3) a lack of social support. It resulted in 1) caregiver burden, 2) a decrease in the capacity for coping with caregiving, 3) delays in the child's physical and psychological recovery, and 4) decreased quality of life. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an assessment scale that considers the attributes of transfer anxiety in parents of children transferred from pediatric intensive care units to general wards. Furthermore, an effective nursing intervention should be developed to reduce transfer anxiety.

  • Purpura fulminans is a serious condition that can result in severe morbidity in the pediatric population. Although autologous skin grafts remain the gold standard for the coverage of partial- to full-thickness wounds, they have several limitations in pediatric patients, including the lack of planar donor sites, the risk of hemodynamic instability, and the limited graft thickness. In Singapore, an in-house skin culture laboratory has been available since 2005 for the use of cultured epithelial autografts (CEAs), especially in burn wounds. However, due to the fragility of CEAs, negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) dressings have been rarely used with CEAs. With several modifications, we report a successful case of NPWT applied over a CEA in an infant who sustained 30% total body surface area full-thickness wounds over the anterior abdomen, flank, and upper thigh secondary to purpura fulminans. We also describe the advantages of using NPWT dressing over a CEA, particularly in pediatric patients.
