  • Television viewing affects viewers' attitudes and opinions on their political issues. Since the beginning of General Programming TV services in 2011, they are criticized of their politically biased programming. In order to investigate the effect of General Programming TV on voters' behavior, we analyzed whether or not there is a change in the voting behavior of the conservative parties among the areas with high and low TV ratings of general programming TV. Based on the result of 18th presidential election in December 2012, we could not find any difference in voting behavior on the Saenuri party among the areas with high and low ratings of general programming TV channels. However, in the 6th provincial election in June 2014, while the voting shares of the Saenuri party were higher in the areas with high ratings of TV Chosun, Channel A, and JTBC than in those areas with low ratings.

  • This study analyzes what contents the general programming channels have been programming since they opened in December, 2011. The findings reveal that their programming tends to center on specific genres such as news, current affairs, variety shows etc., although the general programming channels have programmed diverse contents. This study also shows that the concentrated programming of these genres has been intensified in all the general programming channels as time goes by. The ratio of re-run is shown to be comparatively high, reaching the level of 50%. Thus, it is necessary that they program more diverse genres in order to satisfy the original purpose of the introduction of the general programming channels and to provide the audience with more chances to select programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze information about dietary information presented in the television broadcast media in order to determine the optimal communication method that will provide desirable information to the general public. To that end, stakeholders were recruited and trained before and during the study. Three airwaves broadcasters and four comprehensive programming channels were monitored for Three months. The results are as follows. In total 172 food and nutrition programs are reported on. As information from the monitored programs was investigated, results showed a frequency of 136 separate informative programs (79.1%) and 36 entertainment programs (20.9%). Second, the broadcasters included are KBS, MBC, SBS, while the channels are TV Chosun, JTBC, Channel A, and MBN. Third, 109 reports (63.3%) were about ingredients & cuisine, followed by 63 reports (36.7%) on health and diet. This research provides transitional knowledge regarding the correlation between dietary information and the media. Moreover, this research contributes to advocating public health by enhancing the quality from broadcast media about dietary information.

  • A general web-based remote lecture system uses video data and audio data to provide synchronize between teacher and students. This system requires high bandwidth, high speed networking, television, compression and computing technologies between server and client for remote lecture over Internet. As a result, this system can decrease an efficiency for lecturing over current Internet. So, this paper proposes a new mechanism calling as ‘Synchronization of WWW browsers between server and client’to cope with above problems and finally pursues low cost needed for real-time remote lecture over Internet. The mechanism means that every browser of teacher and students displays the same page and the action of teacher is transferred to the browser of student. And, this can be implemented by Windows hooking APIs, Memory Mapping, and DLL (Dynamic Link Library) programming technology. This paper points to the design and implementation of LAS (Lecture Assistant Server) and LAC (Lecture Assistant Client) to perform the synchronization between server and client.

  • In Korea, video-based news broadcasters are primarily classified into terrestrial broadcasters, general programming cable broadcasters and YouTube broadcasters. Recently, news broadcasters get subjective while targeting the desired specific audience. This violates normative expectations of impartiality and neutrality on journalism from its audience. This phenomenon may have a negative impact on audience perceptions of issues. This study examined whether broadcast news reporting conveys emotions and if so, how news broadcasters differ according to emotion type. Emotion types were classified into neutrality, happiness, sadness and anger using a convolutional neural network which is a class of deep neural networks. Results showed that news anchors or reporters tend to express their emotions during TV broadcasts regardless of broadcast systems. This study provides the first quantative investigation of emotions in broadcasting news. In addition, this study is the first deep learning-based approach to emotion analysis of broadcasting news.
