The study focuses on what to consider and do for the improvement of math education of Korea by comparing two general high school students' and two specialized high school students' beliefs about mathematics and mathematics learning. The major topics compared in the beliefs are composed of perception of mathematics as a science, learning methods of mathematics. The results of the study show that two general high school students tend to set more low value on mathematics, especially in the value of implement, civilization, utility of mathematics than that of two specialized high school students.
This study analyzed the influence of smartphone addiction on adaptation to school life by using the questionnaire survey method of 431 students of radiological science in six regions. The results showed that 89.6% of students are the general user group, 6.3% the high risk group and 4.2% the potential risk group. Adaptability to school life was found to be social adaptability 3.71, righteous adaptability 3.17 and academic adaptability 2.95. Academic adaptability was 3.06 for male students and 2.79 for female students. And righteous adaptability was 3.26 for male students and 3.03 for female students. As a result, male students were more adaptable than female students in academic adaptability and righteous adaptability, which was statistically significant. And Social adaptability was 3.73 for female students and 3.68 for male students, but there was no significant difference(p<.001). Adaptability to school life by smartphone addiction level was found to be the general user group 3.19, the potential risk group 3.05 and the high risk group 2.81. The difference of righteous adaptability between the general user group and the high risk group was statistically significant. And social and academic adaptability of the general user group and the high risk group was no significant(p<.01).
Background: Recently, adolescent obesity was increased and tended to become obese adults, facing increased risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease. Even before reaching adulthood, adolescent obesity already was experiencing hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to find prevalence of obesity of high school students in Jeju island and association between obesity and cardiovascular risk factors and association between childhood obesity and adolescent obesity. Method: The study subjects were 6,064 students of twenty-two high school in Jeju island and health survey data was gathered from high school health examination data and hospital health examination data from Aug. 1999 to Dec. 1999. Adolescent obesity was evaluated by ideal body weight method in 1998 and body mass index. Cardiovascular risk factors were checked total cholesterol, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar. In 1,534 students, obesity at primary school is checked by primary and middle school health record. Results: Prevalence of obesity in Jeju island high school students is 12.6% in male students, 13.3% in female students by ideal body weight method and 8.7% in male students, 8.5% in female students by body mass index. Prevalence of obesity of male students in city area and district area of Jeju island were each 12.9%, 10.3% and that of male students in city area was significantly higher. Prevalence of obesity of female students in city area and district area of Jeju island were each 12.9%, 14.2% and not significantly different. Prevalence of obesity of male students in general and commercial school group were each 13.9%, 10.1% and that of general school group was significantly higher. In female students, Prevalence of obesity general and commercial school group was not significantly different. Total cholesterol, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly associated with degree of obesity in male and female students(p<0.05) and fasting blood sugar was only significantly associated with degree of obesity in male students(p<0.05). In 1,514 students checked by health record, Odds ratio of obesity at primary and middle school that at high school were 12.96∼22.77 and was significantly associated. Conclusion: Prevalence of obesity of high school students in Jeju island is very high and adolescent obesity was significantly associated with cardiovascular risk factors. Mostly childhood obesity tended to become adolescent obesity and program of control of obesity at childhood and adolescence is required.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the measurement results of the financial comprehension test conducted ten times in order to study the financial comprehension. Research design, data, and methodology: In this study, correct answer rates in the Economics and Finance Literacy Certification Test were analyzed across ten rounds of tests taken by 6,662 high school students in Korea. Result: The analysis revealed that Korean high school students' level of financial literacy generally increased as the grade level increased, and the correct answer rates of students at autonomous high schools and special-purpose high schools were statistically different from those of students at general academic high schools and specialized high schools. Conclusion: We can therefore infer that students at specialized high schools face limitations in tackling financial problems due to their lack of proficiency in interpretation and calculation of data necessary for real life financial decision-making. In contrast, students at general academic high schools, special-purpose high schools, and autonomous high schools who do not learn finance as a part of their official curriculum at school were lacking in basic financial knowledge as well as knowledge about the financial system compared to students at specialized high schools, highlighting the need for a measure to address the deficiency.
Objective: To obtain an overview of the status of health-associated factors of Korean high school adolescents. Methods: 2,455 high school students (1,808 boys and 647 girls) filled out questionnairesfor their health-related factors such as physical problems, sleep and exercise. Results: Students sleep about 5.5 hours per day while they exercise only 2.6 hours each week. 14.2% of students skip breakfast every day. 31.0% of students were under severe stress, and 46.4 % has at least one symptom of distresses such as indigestion, headache, frequently catching cold, or muscle pain. 40.7% of the students took a functional supplement, especially vitamins as the most common, and ginseng and herbal drugs as the second and third. Conclusion: These results present general health-associated status of high school students, thus they could be helpful to design medicinal strategies for high school students using traditional Korean medicine.
The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the utilization state of smart devices and the recognition level of educational application development of the general high school and the specialized high school. Specialized high school students preferred the utilization of smart devices more and daily spent on the devices more time than general high school students. As for the learning field, language for the general high school and the certificate of qualification for the specialized high school were shown high. The merit of smart device utilization is the use of spare time and its infrastructure was most required. The most expected content is a video lecture for the general high school and cooperative learning for the specialized high school and the most satisfied point was mobility. The specialized high school students feel more necessity about the application development for culinary education and had a plan to utilize it more and more preferred practice videos. As for the food development areas, the general high school students hoped simple food and the specialized high school students did cooking technician food and they both hoped the application to be uploaded in portal sites and the department homepage. The application development for culinary education is required to focus simulation learning including practice videos and cooking recipes and add an evaluation function to check the academic achievement levels. It is required to provide the subject goals of each course and concrete information on solving problems. Contents including video, music, texts need to be attached to improve learning immersion. There should be the beginning and development of a lesson and the flow of arrangement and communication between main bodies of learning should be improved by utilization of SNS cooperative learning services.
In this study, high school students' perceptions and attitudes toward nanotechnology are examined through questionnaires gathered from 1704 high school students (five general high schools and two science high schools). As a result, the study shows that high school students have generally high perceptions and positive attitudes toward nanotechnology. Science high school students show more positive attitudes and correct knowledge toward nanotechnology rather than general high school students do. High school students get information on nanotechnology via various sources such as TV and internet, whereas they have rarely perceived to get information on nanotechnology in textbooks and science class. They think that newspaper and TV programs are proper methods to introduce new science technology and get information on the advanced science and technology through the internet and science teachers. High school students show positive attitudes toward the application of nanotechnology, whereas they show negative attitudes toward personal information chips and nano-taste enhancer. And they trust nanotechnology researchers and science teachers, whereas they rarely trust about government, public organizations, and internet.

In this paper, we verify the mediating effects of resilience on the relationship between smartphone addition and anger coping strategies, focusing on 299 high school students, and examine the effect of variables on students of general high schools and special purpose high schools. We found that smartphone addiction affects students' resilience and the resilience affects their anger-out and anger-in. It is also found that resilience has mediating effects on the relationship between students' smartphone addiction and anger coping strategies. As for students of general high schools, their smartphone addiction has positive effects on anger-out and anger-in while that of students of special purpose high schools affects their resilience, and the resilience affect their anger-out and anger-in. The results suggest that a high-level of smartphone addiction tends to reduce resilience, which lowers anger moderation, and stress the need of intervention by school type. Finally, this paper discusses implications based on its results and importance of further studies.
The purpose of this study was to develop learning materials based on the Kepler's abductive reasoning and to identify high school students' rule-inferring strategies on the law of planetary motion. The learning materials including the concepts of solar magnetic field, conservation of figure skater's angular momentum and Kepler's polyhedral theory were developed and the questions about Kepler's 2nd and 3rd law of planetary motion were also created. The participants were 79science high school students and 83general high school students. The patterns and properties of their abductive inference were analyzed. The findings revealed that the students showed 'incomplete analogy abduction', 'analogy abduction' and 'reconstruction' to generate the hypotheses concerning the Mars' motion related to the solar magnetic field. There were more general high school students who showed the incomplete analogy abduction than science high school students. On the other hand, there were more science high school students who showed the analogy abduction and reconstruction strategy than general high school students. Also, they showed 'incomplete analogy abduction', 'analogy abduction' and 'model construction and manipulation' to generate the hypotheses concerning Kepler's second law. A number of general high school students showed the incomplete analogy. It is suggested that because the analogy of figure skater cause the students' alternative framework to use, more detailed demonstration is necessary in class. In addition, students combined Kepler's polyhedral theory with their prior knowledge to infer Kepler's third law.

Purchasing behavior for upcycled fashion products was examined along with analysis on environment consciousness, clothing recycling behavior, interest in fashion and awareness of upcycling. Students from middle schools, general high schools and design high schools participated in this research from August to September in 2013. 732 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS WIN. Firstly the levels of environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behavior and interest in fashion of students were high, low and mediate respectively. Female students showed higher environmental consciousness compared to male ones and clothing recycling behavior were found to be higher in students of design high schools than those of general ones. The level of interest in fashion was found to be higher in students of general high school than those of middle school, and this was higher in design high school students than those of general ones. Secondly, more than half of students were unaware of upcycling. Female students and students of design high schools were highly aware of upcycling. Students who were aware of upcycling showed high level of environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behaviour and interest in fashion. Thirdly, students had low experiences in purchasing upcycled fashion products and the reason was lack of awareness of upcycling. The reason that students purchased upcycled fashion products was the uniqueness and design. Students who purchased upcycled fashion products showed high environmental consciousness, clothing recycling behaviour, and interest in fashion.
