  • In ready mixed concrete factory, in case of using the high molecular additive in winter especially the liquid additive for the early strength, it is required to check the stability. In this research, the freezing and gelling characteristics of the liquid additive for the early strength is reviewed, the material and mechanical solution are proposed to that the practical quality control method will be suggested. As the result, the Freezing temperature of the liquid additive for the early strength is $-11.8^{\circ}C$, and it is the lower than the temperature at which the strength is shown. By making with sodium silicate of $37{\pm}0.5%$ designed by $SiO_2\;and\;Na_2O$ in 0.31 of mol ratio, it minimizes the gelling at the lower temperature. On the other hand, facilities for storing and supplying the material should be set at $40^{\circ}C$ so the temperature distribution is well spreaded for practical operation.

  • In this study, the surface tension of simulant gel propellants was measured by Du $No{\ddot{u}}y$ ring method. The variation of the surface tension was investigated with respect to the amount of the gelling agent, and metal particle addition. Distilled water was used as the base fluid for the preparation of the simulant gel propellant where Carbopol 941 was used as a gelling agent and SUS304 spherical metal particles (mean diameter : 100 nm) as simulant energetic particles. As a result of measurements, surface tension increased with increasing gelling agent concentration while, in the presence of metal particle, different behavior of surface tension has been observed.

  • The rheological and diffusion properties of blends of agar/guar gum, agar/Phytagel and Phytagel/guar gum were analysed and compared to those properties of agar or Phytagel applied alone at two different gelling concentrations. Moreover, their effects on the shoot multiplication of the apple scion Galaxy and two black locust clones (SF63, SF82) were studied, and their cost benefits over agar were calculated. Elastic hydrogel formation was demonstrated for each blend by rheological measurements, but the gel strength depended on the types and concentrations of the applied gelling agents and blends. Guar gum was able to speed the diffusion in the different blends, and diffusion was independent of gel strength. The rate of shoot multiplication increased (to 8.9 shoots per explant) and the percent of hyperhydrated shoots decreased (to 12%) when the blend of agar/guar gum was used for the shoot multiplication of apple. Similarly, the highest multiplication rates of black locust clones (between 3.9 and 4.1) were obtained on media solidified by blends containing guar gum. The best shoot performance with the lowest percent of hyperhydrated shoots (11-12% in SF63 and 2-23% in SF82) was achieved using agar alone or the agar/guar gum blend. The shoot multiplication was improved of both species and the production cost was reduced by 42% by using the agar/guar gum blend.

  • Polyurethane foams (PUFs) were prepared from polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI), seven polyols with different functionalities and OH values, silicone surfactant, two catalysts, and three blowing agents. Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC-11), hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC-141b) and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC-365mfc) were used as blowing agents. The effect of gelling and blowing catalysts on basic properties and cell structure of PUF with HCFC-141b was investigated. The cell size of the PUF decreased with an increase in the amount of catalyst from 0 to 2 pph (parts per hundred polyol). In the case of gelling type catalyst, the compressive strength increased from 11.9 to $12.66kg_f/cm^2$ with an increase in the amount catalyst from 0 to 2 pph but the density did not change significantly. The gelling time, density, and compressive strength of the PUF with three different blowing agents were measured. There was no detectable change in their properties. However, the cell structure of PUF with HCFC-141b was not uniform as in the other systems.

  • The relationship between texture and rheological properties of mascara(oil-in-water emulsion) was analyzed in this study. The final mascara product and gelling agents(2.0 wt%) used therein, such as hydroxyethylcellulose(HC), carboxymethylcellulose(CMC), hectorite, sodium magnesium silicate (SMS), hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer(HS), and polyacrylate 13/polyisobutene/polysorbate 20 (PPP), were measured for rheological properties. As a result, HS and PPP showed the highest adhesiveness which were related to the volumizing effect of mascara. The viscosities of HC, SMS, and HS were measured at the stress range of $1{\sim}1,000s^{-1}$. SMS, with the lowest storage modulus range of $100{\sim}1,000s^{-1}$, affected the mascara in terms of smooth texture. The results of this study suggest that the rheology of gelling agents used influences the final texture of the mascara.

  • Variation of soil properties is studied by permeating injection of chemical grouts, such as cement type, water-glass type and acrylamide type, to the same soil samples with different densities. Moreover, injection tests using specially prepared equipments of 1.0 shot system and 1. 5 shot system are attempted to investigate permeating injection effects in highly compacted soil and in the presence of ground water. The main factor which causes the improvement of cut-off effect and shearing strength is the cohesion of soil. The strength in the loose state is fundamentally governed by the membrane cohesion, meanwhile, in the loose state is governed by the structural cohesion. Injection effects under the ground water flow is considerably decreased, and effective gelling ratio of approximate 45~80% is observed by variation of velocity and gel time, besides grading of injection materials has high relation with permeation and traveling length but has little relation with effective gelling ratio. Permeating injection effects, such as gelling scope, gelling strength in highly compaoted soil conditions can be confirmed by penetration resistance diagram and iso-strength curve.

  • The reaction behavior of rigid polyurethane foams were studied on the effects of gelling catalysts of amine type, such as; dimethylcyclohexyl amine (DMCHA) and of potassium type, such as; potassium octoate (PO). Rigid polyurethane foams were provided with polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, polyester polyol, silicone surfactant, blowing agent and a few gelling catalysts. As the contents of catalyst, DMCHA increased from 0 to 2.0 g, the reaction time decreased from ca. 330 to ca. 35 sec and due to the exothermic reaction, the maximum temperature increased from ca. 217 to ca. $234^{\circ}C$, respectively. As the contents of PO increased from 0 to 2.5 g, the reaction time decreased from ca. 79 to ca. 38 sec and the maximum temperature increased from ca. 182 to ca. $271^{\circ}C$, respectively. The kinetic parameters were calculated and the conversions were based on the temperature rising method of adiabatic process. As the content of DMCHA increased, the rate constant $k_0$ increased. But in the case of PO catalyst, $k_0$ did hardly depend upon its amount, and showed us similar reaction rate constants.

  • There are many advantages in applying gel propellant to a gel propulsion system. These include higher performances, the energy management of liquid propulsion system, reliable storability and low leakage characteristics. Additionally, gel propulsion system are preferable to the high density impulse of propulsion system. Also, when compared to liquid propellants, the gel propellants acquire greater heat energy. Gel propellants achieve a high specific impulse when metal particles with aluminum and boron are added. With respect to atomization, an inactive process occurs due to the variable viscosity of the metal particles and gelling agents. To improve the defect of atomization and combustion characteristics of gel propellant, a variety of issues related to spray and combustion is introduced here.

  • This study was evaluate of chemical properties. textural charact6eristics and sensory properties prod-uced peach pyuns through the change of gelling agents such as mungbean starch potato starchy and pec-tin and of sugar density with 10%, 20%, and 30%. Sensory evaluation was that peach pyun added mun-gbean starch was more preferable in appearance and texture than peach pyun added potato starch. Peac-h pyun added 0% pectin was more preferable than peach pyun with 1% pectin. As a result of texture analysis the texture of peach pyun added mungbean starch was denser than that added potato starch. Adding 1% pectin to peach pyun increased mechanical properties such as hardness and chewiness. Mun-gbeaan starch pyun with pectin on lightness Potato starch pyun with pectin on redness and potato star-ch pyun with pectin on yellowness were significant(p<001). Lightness has a tendency to decrease with increasing sugar density. Adding 1% pectin has the effect to increase lightness redness and yellowness. The subject parameters that effect overall quality on sensory evaluation were found taste quality tex-ture quality hardness adhesiveness and taste by using regression analysis.
