A Study on the Remanufacturing for Drive Spur Gear in Planner Miller by Directed Energy Deposition

  • In this study, additive manufacturing technology was applied to restore a planner miller that was unusable due to aging. The drive spur gear of the planner miller was inoperable due to many defects in the teeth. The shape of the defective gear teeth was restored by deposition of the defective teeth using the DED method. However, as the location of the deposition head and the location of the set origin became farther, the deposition shape was different from the modeling shape. Nonetheless, since the modeling of the deposition part was designed to be larger than the tooth shape of the original gear, it was possible to completely restore all gear teeth through post-processing. The arrangement interval of the flow lines of the deposition part was narrower than that of the substrate. The hardness of the substrate was 172 HV, and that of the deposition part was 345 HV, which was twice as high as that of the substrate.

  • Sppur gear trains are used widely in high precision machines because gear trains have an advantage of exact transmission of angular velocity. Especially, gear trains are used in high quali8ty photocopying and photography OA machines. In general, gears have errors in manufacturing and assembling process and the errors are limited by tolerances. As the result, the tolerances cause the performance error. Therfore, it is important to predict transmission error caused by the tolerances for the tolerance design. Earlier tolerance design methods use mainly experimental and geometrical techniques. In this paper, a method for gear train analysis with tolerance is proposed. Because the method uses dynamic contacts, it is possible to consider irregularities and assemble errors of gears. In addition, the method can predit dynamic loads on the teeth of gears.

A study on the analysis and identification of error motion in planetary gear system (유성치차장치의 회전오차 해석과 그 진단에 관한 연구)

  • The manufacturing errors such as pitch error and run-out error in planetary gear system bring about the irregular displacement of the center of each gear, which cause the torqe variation, vibration and noise. In this study, the relation between manufacturing errors and error motions of the center of gear was analyzed, and it can be applied to identyfy the errors of gears by investigating the measured locus of the center of each gear. Also, another identification method of power spectrum estimation using FFT algorithm was introduced, which analyze the frequency of the measured error motions. The results show that the error of each gear had a corresponding unique frequency, therefore, this method proved to be more effective.

An Investigationi into the Dynamic Characteristics of Turbine and Gear Motor Type Flowmeters (터빈형과 기어모터형 유량계의 동특성 검토)

  • In hydraulic control system turbine and gear motor type flowmeters are widely used to measure the flow rate under steady flow conditions. With the recent growth of interest in the measurement of instantaneous values of unsteady flow rate the test of the transient response of these flowmeters are in some significance. however an unsteady flow rate mea-surment and its calibration method with a fast response and a high accuracy have not beendeveloped. In this research particularly the dynamic characteristics of turbine and gear motor type flowmeters are investigated experimentally and simple mathematical models are proposed. The measured flow rate waveforms are compared with those by remote instan-taneous flow rate measurement method(RIFM) which has been developed by author and used for calibration As the result of frequency response test gain and phase between the measured flow rate waveforms by turbine type flowmeter and those estimated by RIFM are in good agreement up to 70Hz For the gear motor type flowmeter th simulated results by a math-ematical model proposed here agree well with the experiment nearly up to 100Hz. Also it if sound that the pressure drop across the flowmeter is increased in proportion to the frequency of the flow rate variation in a high frequency region of more than 100Hz. It can be explained that the dealy of gear motor type flowmeter in high frequency regionis mainly attributed to a first order delay consisting of the inertia of gears and internal leakage of the gear motor.

Gear Strength Evaluation of Electric Axle for Construction Machinery using Simulation Model (Simulation Model을 이용한 건설기계용 전동식 액슬의 기어 강도 평가)

  • As environmental issues have emerged worldwide, emission gas regulations have been strengthened. In the construction machinery sector, studies have been actively conducted to utilize the power source of electric motors owing to the increasing demand for zero emissions. In this study, the gear specifications of an electric axle for construction machinery were selected by considering the specifications of the motor, gear tooth contact pattern, and face load factor. The gear strength evaluation was performed at the system level using the simulation model. The bending and contact strength of the spiral bevel gears and the bending strength of the planetary gear set showed a safety factor of 1 or more. However, the contact strength of the planetary gear set showed a safety factor of 0.92. Conservative results were derived by performing the analysis under the rated load condition of the motor. However, the ratio of the equivalent torque to the rated torque of the motor was 45% or less, hence, it was determined that no difficulties should arise regarding the durability of the axle.

A Study on the Development of Gear Transmission Error Measurement System and Verification (기어 전달오차 계측 시스템 개발 및 검증에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and verify a precision transmission error measurement system for a gear pair. The transmission error measurement system of the gear pair was developed as a measurement unit, signal processing unit, and signal analysis unit. The angular displacement for calculating the transmission error of the gear pair was measured using an encoder. The signal amplification, interpolation, and transmission error calculation of the measured angular displacement were conducted using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and a real-time processor. A high-pass filter (HPF) was applied to the calculated transmission error from the real-time processor. The transmission error measurement test was conducted using a gearbox, including the master gear pair. The same test was repeated three times in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions, respectively, according to the load conditions (0 - 200 N·m). The results of the gear transmission error tests showed similar tendencies, thereby confirming the stability of the system. The measured transmission error was verified by comparing it with the transmission error analyzed using commercial software. The verification showed a slight difference in the transmission error between the methods. In a future study, the measurement and analysis method of the developed precision transmission error measurement system in this study may possibly be used for gear design.

Power Transmission Optimization Based on the Driving Gear of a Cross Drilling/Milling Unit using a Micro Geometry Method (마이크로 지오메트리 방법을 이용한 크로스 드릴링/밀링 유닛 구동기어의 동력전달 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • A cross drilling/milling Unit is an important mechanical part which is widely used in many kinds of machining tool, and various gear trains with good accuracy and reliability features are widely used in power transmission systems. A study on a novel power transmission optimization method for driving gear trains in cross drilling/milling units is presented in this paper. A commercial program for gear system simulation, Romax Designer, was used in this research to intuitively observe the gear meshing and the load distribution conditions on the gear teeth. We obtained the optimal modification value through comparing the results of repeated experiments. For validation, optimized gears were fabricated and then measured with a precision tester.

  • ATV(All Terrain Vehicle) has been developed to be used for agricultural fields on unpaved roads but now it is mostly used to transport a short distance and play leisure sports at mountains. Recently, main concerns on the automobile industry is developing not only a car safe, high fuel efficient and friendly related with environment but also two-wheeled vehicles. In order to maintain high fuel efficiency and safety of two-wheeled vehicle, it is essential that ATV should be set up differential gear. But we worried for ATV which had been set up differential gear not to run on unpaved roads. Therefore, it is necessary to develop LSD(Limited Slip Differential) that maintains existing advantages of ATV and ensures ATV to travel safely on roads. Now LSD equipped cars have a complicated structure, so setting up on ATV is unsuitable. Therefore, in this study, we have developed simple, small and well operating LSD.

Finite Element Analysis for Design of Closed Die Forging Process of a Bevel Gear (베벨기어의 밀폐단조 공정설계를 위한 유한요소해석)

  • Bevel gears are important mechanical parts to transmit power in transportation system high precision parts like bevel gears might be manufactured by closed die forging process for dimensional accuracy. Closed die forging of bevel gears offers the high quality and good mechanical properties and also leads to considerable cost saving. To determinate the proper closed-die forging process for bevel gear forms, three-dimensional finite element simulation for the progressive forging process was earned out and also the simulation results were compared with experimental results.

  • This study contains to theory and analysis research for the stress and the translation of an expand disk that fix a ring gear for tooth profile machining. The stress of the expand disk is analysed by the finite element method(FEM) to calculate design parameters. From the analysis results, the stress of the expand shows a linear tendency under various fixing force. This results show that the expand disk have a elastic characteristics as a disk spring. The maximum stress was observed on under side in split section of the expand disk. It is verified that the analysis results are useful to calculate design parameters of the expand disk.
