  • This paper proposes a new prediction method to reduce times and labor of repetitive multi-physics simulation. To achieve exact results from the whole simulation processes, complex modeling and huge amounts of time are required. Current multi-physics analysis focuses on the simulation method itself and the simulation environment to reduce times and labor. However this paper proposes an alternative way to reduce simulation times and labor by exploiting machine learning algorithm trained with data set from simulation results. Through comparing each machine learning algorithm, Gaussian Process Regression showed the best performance with under 100 training data and how similar results can be achieved through machine-learning without a complex simulation process. Given trained machine learning algorithm, it's possible to predict the result after changing some features of the simulation model just in a few second. This new method will be helpful to effectively reduce simulation times and labor because it can predict the results before more simulation.

  • The availability of high-resolution laser scanning data and advanced machine learning algorithms has enabled an accurate potential rockfall source identification. However, the presence of other mass movements, such as landslides within the same region of interest, poses additional challenges to this task. Thus, this research presents a method based on an integration of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and ensemble artificial neural network (bagging ANN [BANN]) for automatic detection of potential rockfall sources at Kinta Valley area, Malaysia. The GMM was utilised to determine slope angle thresholds of various geomorphological units. Different algorithms(ANN, support vector machine [SVM] and k nearest neighbour [kNN]) were individually tested with various ensemble models (bagging, voting and boosting). Grid search method was adopted to optimise the hyperparameters of the investigated base models. The proposed model achieves excellent results with success and prediction accuracies at 95% and 94%, respectively. In addition, this technique has achieved excellent accuracies (ROC = 95%) over other methods used. Moreover, the proposed model has achieved the optimal prediction accuracies (92%) on the basis of testing data, thereby indicating that the model can be generalised and replicated in different regions, and the proposed method can be applied to various landslide studies.

  • Sensor networks are the results of convergence of very important technologies such as wireless communication and micro electromechanical systems. In recent years, sensor networks found a wide applicability in various fields such as environment and health, industry scene system monitoring, etc. A very important step for these many applications is pattern classification and recognition of data collected by sensors installed or deployed in different ways. But, pattern classification and recognition are sometimes difficult to perform. Systematic approach to pattern classification based on modem learning techniques like Multivariate Gaussian mixture models, can greatly simplify the process of developing and implementing real-time classification models. This paper proposes a new recognition system which is hierarchically composed of many sensor nodes having the capability of simple processing and wireless communication. The proposed system is able to perform context classification of sensed data using the Multivariate Gaussian function. In order to verify the usefulness of the proposed system, it was applied to intelligent dust collecting system.

  • This paper describes a new structure re create a pseudo Gaussian function network (PGFN). The activation function of hidden layer does not necessarily have to be symmetric with respect to center. To give the flexibility of the network, the deviation of pseudo Gaussian function is changed according to a direction of given input. This property helps that given function can be described effectively with a minimum number of center by PGFN, The distribution of deviation is represented by level set method and also the loaming of deviation is adjusted based on it. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed network, general problem of function estimation is treated here. The representation problem of continuous functions defined over two-dimensional input space is solved.

  • This paper presents a statistical machine learning method that generates the implied volatility surface under the rareness of the market data. We apply the practitioner's Black-Scholes model and Gaussian process regression method to construct a Bayesian inference system with observed volatilities as a prior information and estimate the posterior distribution of the unobserved volatilities. The variance instead of the volatility is the target of the estimation, and the radial basis function is applied to the mean and kernel function of the Gaussian process regression. We present two types of Gaussian process regression methods and empirically analyze them.

  • This paper shows the initial results of a study applying deep learning technology in power line communication. In this paper, we propose a system that effectively removes noise by applying a deep learning technique to eliminate noise, which is a cause of reduced power line communication performance, by adding a deep learning model at the receive part. To train the deep learning model, it is necessary to store the data. Therefore, it is assumed that the existing data is stored, and the proposed system is simulated. we compare the theoretical result of the additive white Gaussian noise channel with the bit error rate and confirm that the proposed system model improves the communication performance by removing the noise.

  • Based on the capture-emission energy (CEE) maps of CMOS devices, a physics-informed machine learning model for the bias temperature instability (BTI)-induced threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise is presented. In order to incorporate physics theories into the machine learning model, the integration of artificial neural network (IANN) is employed for the computation of the threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise. The model combines the computational efficiency of IANN with the optimal estimation of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) with soft clustering. It enables full lifetime prediction of BTI under various stress and recovery conditions and provides accurate prediction of the dynamic behavior of the original measured data.

  • Recently, kernel methods have attracted great interests in the areas of pattern classification, function approximation, and anomaly detection. The role of the kernel is particularly important in the methods such as SVM(support vector machine) and KPCA(kernel principal component analysis), for it can generalize the conventional linear machines to be capable of efficiently handling nonlinearities. This paper considers the problem of combining radar and rain gauge observations utilizing the regression approach based on the kernel-based gaussian process and support vector learning. The data-assimilation results of the considered methods are reported for the radar and rain gauge observations collected over the region covering parts of Gangwon, Kyungbuk, and Chungbuk provinces of Korea, along with performance comparison.

  • In conventional RBF network, the activation functions of hidden layers generally are symmetric functions like gaussian function. This has been considered to be one of the limiting factors for the network to speed up learning of actuately describing a given function. To avoid this criticism, we propose a pseudo gaussian function (PGF) whose deviation is changed according to the direction of incoming pattern. This property helps to estimate the given function more effectively with a minimal number of centers because of its flexibility of functional representation. A level set method is used to describe the asymmetric shape of deviation of the pseudo gaussian function. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed network ...

  • An analysis of hardware design conditions of moving object detection (MOD) algorithm is described, which is based on effective Gaussian mixture learning (EGML). A simulation model of EGML algorithm is implemented using OpenCV, and the effects of some parameter values on background learning time and MOD sensitivity are analyzed for various images. In addition, optimal design conditions for hardware implementation of EGML-based MOD algorithm are extracted from fixed-point simulations for various bit-widths of parameters. The proposed fixed-point model of the EGML-based MOD uses only half of the bit-width at the expense of the loss of MOD performance within 0.5% when compared with floating-point MOD results.
