  • Wave breaking and breaking wave-induced hydrodynamics are very important subjects in the field of coastal and ocean hydrodynamics and engineering. In the coastal zone, a submerged breakwater has been increasingly popular, since it is one of nature-matching structures with multi- functions such as (1) wave energy dissipation by wave breaking and friction, (2) oxygen supply to sea by wave breaking and breaking wave, (3) water purification by entrained air bubbles, (4) keeping. good seascape. and (5) good habitat for sea livings. Recently, the breaking wave-induced high frequency pressure over a submerged breakwater is said to have a function of gathering sea livings around the structure, which has encouraged the construction of the submerged breakwater in coastal zone. Using an educational software Graphers in elementary school mathematics (초등 수학 수업에서의 소프트웨어(Graphers) 활용)

  • The graph unit(chapter) is a good example of a topic in elementary school mathematics for which computer use can be incorporated as part of the instruction. Teaching graph can be facilitated by using the graphing utilities of computers, which make it possible to observe the property of many types of graphs. This study was concerned with utilizing an educational software Graphers as an instructional tool in teaching to help young students gain a better understanding of graph concepts. For this purpose, three types of instructional activities using Graphers were shown in the paper. Graphers is a data-gathering tool for creating pictorial data chosen from several data sets. They can represent their data on a table or with six types of graphs such as Pictograph, Bar Graph, Line Graph, Circle Graph, Grid Plot and Loops. They help students to select the graph(s) which are the most appropriate for the purpose of analyzing data while comparing various types of graphs. They also let them modify or change graphs, such as adding grid lines, changing the axis scale, or adding title and labels. Eventually, students have a chance to interpret graphs meaningfully and in their own way.

  • Rendezvous is a process of two or more cognitive radio nodes gathering on the same channel at the same time for a negotiation to establish data communications. This paper discusses rendezvous issues in cognitive radio networks. It details why rendezvous is an issue in cognitive radio networks and how rendezvous works. It classifies channel access methods, and details sequence-based channel-hopping methods. It surveys existing works on blind rendezvous and compares the proposed algorithms in terms of the maximum time to rendezvous. This paper discusses the properties that an efficient channel-hopping rendezvous algorithm should have and illustrates common issues in the existing rendezvous methods. It also explains open research issues in the rendezvous area.

  • Compressed sensing is a novel technology used in the field of wireless communication and sensor networks for channel estimation, signal detection, data gathering, network monitoring, and other applications. It plays a significant role in highly secure, real-time, well organized, and cost-effective data communication in smart-grid (SG) systems, which consist of multi-tier network standards that make it challenging to synchronize in power management communication. In this paper, we present a multi-layer communication model for SG systems and propose compressed-sensing based data transmission at every layer of the SG system to improve data transmission performance. Our approach is to utilize the compressed-sensing procedure at every layer in a controlled manner. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed monitoring devices need less transmission power than conventional systems. Additionally, secure, reliable, and real-time data transmission is possible with the compressed-sensing technique.

  • In designing and evaluating a new product, the company needs to give thought to the entire spectrum of produceability, usability, and ultimate reliability, as well as safety of users. For each design review(DR) stage, a formal, systematic, documented review and evaluation of a product design is conducted to assure that the product is safe and reliable, that costs and materials have been optimized, and that the design complies with its specifications and requirements. This paper presents how to improve development process for product's safety and reliability. The process requires gathering the appropriate information, determining the limits of the product, estimating risk associated with the task-hazard combinations, and reducing risk according to a prioritized procedure.

  • Logic programming has many advantages as a paradigm for parallel programming because it offers ease of programming while retaining high expressive power due to its declarative semantics. In parallel logic programming, one of the important issues is the compile-time parallelism detection. Static data-dependency analysis has been widely used to gather some information needed for the detection of AND-parallelism. However, the static data-dependency analysis cannot fully detect AND-parallelism because it does not provide some necessary functions such as the propagation of groundness. As an alternative approach, abstract interpretation provides a promising way to deal with AND-parallelism detection, while a full-blown abstract interpretation is not efficient in terms of computation since it inherently employs some complex operations not necessary for gathering the information on AND-parallelism. In this paper, we propose an abstract domain which can provide a precise and efficient way to use the abstract interpretation for the detection of AND-parallelism of logic programs.

  • This paper proposes a technical requirements analysis of implementation of multi-trade prefabrication. Recently, there has been a rise in the use of prefabrication to minimize on-site work for time reduction to increase productivity. Prefabrication technique is evolved into multi-trade prefabrication combining other trades from single-trade prefabrication. For implementation of new technique, not only itself but complementary techniques have to be prepared. In this paper, MEP corridor rack, a major item of multi-trade prefabrication, was implemented in the test bed and its process was analyzed to find out technical requirements. As a result, comparatively high level of IT technique was required for efficient use of multi-trade prefabrication in design, lifting and construction phase. In design phase, component level of BIM library was needed for manufacturing; and in lifting phase, BIM-based site logistics process was required. Also in construction phase, laser scanning was implemented for gathering shape and geometry of the wall and slab that were attached to multi-trade prefabrication module.

Root Cause Analysis of the Information Industry Ecosystem Problems (정보산업 생태계 문제의 근본원인 분석)

  • Finding a root cause is an essential step to solving a complex problem. Some previous studies have used the Delphi method for gathering opinions about root causes from geographically dispersed experts. However, we assert that complicated problems such as an industry ecosystem would make a general type of the Delphi method less practical because of too much psychological burden on study participants. In this study we present a preliminary list-based Delphi study method for identifying a root cause. This method was used to identify a root cause and draw a causal map for the information industry ecosystem problems.

Analyses of Childrens Daily Activities in Preschools of Middle-and Lower-Income Communities: Focus on Child-Centered Educational Programs (거주지 계층에 따른 유아교육 기관에서의 아동의 활동분석 - 아동중심 교육 프로그램을 기반으로 -)

  • This study compared children's daily activities In the preschools of middle-and lower-income communities. 22 children, evenly divided by community and children's gender, were observed for 3 hours on 5 consecutive days. The observers followed the target child, gathering data during 30-second "windows" every 4 1/2 minutes. A total of 750 observations were used in the analyses. The findings show the variation in children's activities as a function of community differences. In the case of academic activities, children of middle-income community were more exposed to and engaged in play with academic objects more than children of the of low-income community. A reverse tendency, however, was found in academic lessons. Children of low-income community were more exposed to work than their counterparts. Children of middle-income community were engaged in child-adult conversation more than those of low-income community. In addition, children of the middle-income community initiated their involvement in play and conversation more than their counterparts, though no difference was found in children's initiation of activities.

  • SPC is the quality improvement technique of gathering since Motorola of U.S.A. have used SPC technique as a statistical process control method for promoting 6-sigma quality improvement strategy in 1988. In Korea, small and medium-sized enterprises are needed building of a system for statistical production control . In the present study, the methods of building SPC system with a moderate cost using a graphic programs of easy-to-use and high flexibility for small and medium-sized enterprises were inquired. The SPC system which enables statistic marking (maximum, minimum, mean, standard deviation, process capability index) and graph marking (X-Y coordinates and histogram) using LabVIEW 5.0, the graphic program by National Instrument Co., Ltd. was implemented in this study.
