  • The representative technology of the WWAN wireless communication network used in the Internet of Things is LoRa communication technology, and LoRa communication uses the ISM band. The 920 MHz (920.9 MHz~923.3 MHz) band frequency, which is used as a domestic LoRa frequency, had a problem in performing LoRa network practice in the curriculum using a commercially available LoRa modules that have been used in Europe and the United States because of different frequency band, but a RYLR896 LoRa module was developed that allowed RF frequency to be programmed. With this module, this paper confirmed that the frequency can be set at a specified frequency in Korea using AT commands. In addition, using these RYLR896 LoRa modules, a LoRa network consisting of end nodes and gateways was constructed and practiced to confirm that development equipment capable of practicing the RYLR896 LoRa module and IoT was operating normally.

  • Since WSNs encounter attacks, such as jamming or eavesdropping without physical access occurs, security is one of the important requirements for WSNs. The key pre-distribution scheme that was recently researched for advance of security in WSNs distributes the keys and probability with the use of q-composite random key pre-distribution method, but there is a high probability that no key shared between sensor nodes, and it takes a lot of time and energy to find out the shared key. Therefore, it is not suitable for WSNs. In order to enhance stability of a node that plays a role of gateway without depending on probabilistic key, this paper proposesa key pre-distribution scheme combined with random key pre-distribution scheme and double hash chain. Since the proposed scheme can maintain a small storage place and strong security strengths, it is more efficient than the existing schemes with the same security strengths. In addition, since it uses a small size of key generation key set, it can reduce a great deal of storage overhead.

  • At present wireless internet access service is available through the 3G network, mobile WiMAX and WiFi anytime and anywhere. In this environment where there are various networks, users should be able to select specific networks depending on different situations. And it is necessary to provide mobility support between homogeneous and between heterogenous networks. Given this situation, the many proposals have been presented to link 3G, which has the largest service area among various networks, with mobile WiMAX(IEEE 802.16e), or with WiFi(IEEE 802.11). But, recently, with the increasing volume of wireless internet use and wireless internet data, due to the advents of net-book, e-book and smart phone, the service area of WiFi and mobile WiMAX has rapidly expanded. Especially, the availability of real-time application such as internet phone has led to the relative shrinking of the proportion of 3G mobile communication network giving conventional voice service, and enlargement of those of wireless internet access networks like WiFi and mobile WiMAX. This paper suggests a handover scheme based on PMIPv6, whitch support mobility between WiFi and mobile WiMAX, and minimizes handover delay. In this scheme, the mobile node has a dual stack structure composed of two interfaces-WiFi and mobile WiMAX. Since WiFi dose not support mobility, it is suggested that the mobile node have the capacity to deal with handover signaling between gateway in case of handover between homogeneous networks. This handover scheme, suggested comparing with current handovers between homogeneous networks, has proved, in its analytic evaluation, to be able to reduce handover, transmission, and signaling overhead.

  • Due to the ease of deployment and the extended coverage, wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are gaining popularity and research focus. For example, the routing protocols that enhance the throughput on the WMNs and the link quality measurement schemes are among the popular research topics. However, most of these works assume that the locations of the mesh routers are predetermined. Since the operators in an Indoor mesh network can determine the locations of the mesh routers by themselves, it is essential to the WMN performance for the mesh routers to be initially placed by considering the performance issues. In this paper, we propose a mesh router placement scheme based on genetic algorithms by considering the characteristics of WMNs such as interference and topology. There have been many related works that solve similar problems such as base station placement in cellular networks and gateway node selection in WMNs. However, none of them actually considers the interference to the mesh clients from non-associated mesh routers in determining the locations of the mesh routers. By simulations, we show that the proposed scheme improves the performance by 30-40% compared to the random selection scheme.

  • Underwater acoustic communication is applicable in various areas, such as ocean data collection, undersea exploration and development, tactical surveillance, etc. Thus, robot control system construction used for underwater-robot like AUV or ROV is essential in these areas. In this paper, we propose the Message Merging MAC($M^2$-MAC) protocol, which is suitable for real time robot control system, considering energy efficiency in important parts of underwater acoustic sensor network constitution. In this proposed MAC protocol, gateway node receives the data from robot nodes according to the time slots that were allotted previously. And messages delivered from base-station are generated to one MAC frame by buffering process. Finally, generated MAC frames are broadcasted to all robot nodes in the cluster. Our suggested MAC protocol can also be hybrid MAC protocol, which is successful blend of contention based and contention-free based protocol through relevant procedure with Maintenance&Sleep (M&S) period, when new nodes join and leave as an orphan. We propose mathematical analysis model concerned about End-to-End delay and energy consumption, which is important factor in constructing real-time robot control system. We also verify the excellence of performance according to comparison of existing MAC protocols with our scheme.

  • In wireless mesh networks (WMNs), the end-to-end throughput of a flow decreases drastically according to the traversed number of hops due to interference among different hops of the same flow in addition to interference between hops of different flows with different paths. This paper proposes a distributed multi-channel assignment scheme based on hops (DMASH) to improve the performance of a static WMN. The proposed DMASH is a novel distributed multi-channel assignment scheme based on hops to enhance the end-to-end throughput by reducing interference between channels when transmitting packets in the IEEE 802.11 based multi-interface environments. The DMASH assigns a channel group to each hop, which has no interference between adjacent hops from a gateway in channel assignment phase, then each node selects its channel randomly among the channel group. Since the DMASH is a distributed scheme with unmanaged and auto-configuration of channel assignment, it has a less overhead and implementation complexity in algorithm than centralized multi-channel assignment schemes. Simulation results using the NS-2 showed that the DMASH could improve remarkably the total network throughput in multi-hop environments, comparing with a random channel assignment scheme.

  • Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have recently become a hot issue to support high link capacity in wireless access networks. The IEEE 802. I 1 standard which is mainly used for the network interface technology in WMNs supports up to 3 or 12 multiple channels according to the IEEE 802.11 specification. However, two important problems must be addressed when we design a channel assigmnent algorithm: channel dependency problem and channel scanning delay. The former occurs when the dynamic channel switching of an interface leads to the channel switching of other interfaces to maintain node connectivity. The latter happens per channel switching of the interface, and affects the network performance. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the Distance-Based Channel Assigmnent (DB-CA) scheme for multi-channel WMNs to solve such problems. In DB-CA, nodes just perform channel switching without channel scanning to communicate with neighboring nodes that operate on different channels. Furthermore, DB-CA minimizes the interference of channels being used by nodes near the gateway in WMNs. Our simulation results show that DB-CA achieves improved performance in WMNs.
