  • Exhausting fossil fuel and increasing concern of air pollution have brought on the change of the focus of developing new vehicles from performance to fuel economy and emission. The gasoline engines adopting the naturally aspirated way use the throttle-body for engine load control. Therefore, its pumping loss increases more than that of the diesel engine, and also mostly operating in a partial load condition has bad influence on fuel economy and emission. In these days, the continuous variable valve timing system and variable induction system are adopted in order to improve fuel consumption and emission. In this study, we optimize the runner length and operate region of variable induction system to simulataneously improve the performance, fuel economy, and emission of gasoline engine with employing GT-Power as a CAE tool for engine analysis and PIAnO as PIDO tool for process integration and design optimization.

自動車에 의한 汚染物質 排出係數 및 排出量 算定에 관한 硏究 (Estimation of Emission Factor and Air Pollutant Emissions by Motor Vehicles)

  • Actual driving pattern of each motor vehicle type was measured and analyzed in Seoul area and vehicle emission rate was measured and traffic data were used to estimate vehicular emission factor and motor vehicle-related air pollutant emission. The analysis of contribution ratio of each vehicle type showed that LPG taxi's took 38.1% of total vehicular CO, gasoline passenger cars 37.5%, therefore, these cars are major sources of CO, gasoline passenger cars took 45.4% of total vehicular HC, motorcycles 25.3%, LPG taxi's 16.2%, so motorcycles can be said to play an important role in HC emission. For NOx, buses and trucks were thought to be major sources as buses took 36.8% and truck 26.4%. Diesel vehicles, on the other hand, took most $SO_2$ and particulate matter emission. Total emission from motor vehicles in Seoul was estimated to be 547 t/day of CO, 68t/day of HC, 163t/day of NOx, 18t/day of $SO_2$ and 19t/day of paticulate matter.

LNG를 이용한 농용엔진의 성능특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance Characteristics of Farm Engine Using LNG)

  • This study was performed to find out performance characteristics and develop LNG engine. this system was designed and manufactured by modification of a diesel using the LNgas. The engine was manufactured to be able to change the compression ratio by changing thickness of the gasket. The results are summarized brake power and torque of the engine increased when compression ratio of the engine increased. The engine output showed more power with gasoline by 5-10% then LNG under compression ratio of 9.5.and maximum brake thermal effeiency was noted when air-fuel ratio was 15.5. The concentrations of NOx, CO and HC in the exhaust gas showed lower values with the engine fueled LNG then gasoline.

  • Recently, the global automobile market is rapidly changing from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles including electric vehicles. Among eco-friendly vehicles, LPG vehicles are low in fine dust and are suggested as a realistic way to replace diesel vehicles. In addition, it is more economical than gasoline in its class, showing a cost-saving effect. In Korea, the business of converting gasoline into LPG is active. Research is being conducted to apply this to hybrid vehicles. In this study, the difference in energy consumption efficiency was analyzed when LPG fuel was applied by selecting a 2-liter GDI hybrid electric vehicle. The operation of the hybrid system according to various driving characteristics was confirmed by selecting the WLTC mode. As a result, it was confirmed that the BSFC was about 5% lower than that of gasoline fuel when using LPG fuel. This is due to the active operation of the motor while driving. Optimization is required as battery consumption increases from an energy perspective.

국내 수송용 석유제품 시장의 시장구조와 가격행태 (Market Structure and Pricing Behavior in the Korean Transportation Fuel Market)

  • 본 논문에서는 경제이론과 실증분석을 통하여 이명박 정부가 석유제품 시장에 개입한 논거를 평가하였다. 한국을 포함하여 세계적으로 정제산업은 과점이 보편적이며, 역차별적인 수준의 대외 시장개방에도 불구하고 석유제품 시장에서 국내 정유4사의 시장점유율이 높게 지속되는 이유는 정유4사가 국제적인 가격경쟁력을 보유하고 있고 MOPS 가격을 기준으로 경쟁적인 가격책정을 하고 있기 때문이다. 국내 세전 소비자가격은 일본의 가격과 '27개 EU권 국가의 가격들을 가중평균한 값'보다 통계적으로 유의하게 현저히 낮았다. 한국, 일본, 14개 EU권 국가들을 대상으로 가격 비대칭성의 존재여부와 상세내역을 분석한 결과, 휘발유의 경우 한국과 11개 EU권 국가, 경유의 경우 한국과 8개 EU권 국가에서 비대칭성이 있는 것으로 판별되었다. 가격 비대칭성은 다양한 경제 경영적 원인에 의해 다양한 제품과 시장구조에서 발생한다. 소비자 복지의 관점에서는 한국의 세전 소비자가격이 현저히 낮다는 점이 제일 중요하다.

자동차 배기가스 중 입자상 탄소성분 내 PAHs의 정성적 비율 추정 (The Qualitative Rate Estimation of PAHs in Carbon Compounds of Particles in Vehicles Exhaust Gas)

  • Since the emergence of domestically produced automobiles in 1964, the number of automobiles in circulation in South Korea has increased constantly. With this rapidly increasing number of automobiles, automobile-induced environmental pollution has become an issue of great concern, especially with regard to air pollution. Of the carbon composites contained in automobile exhaust gas, PAHs are known to be carcinogenic and highly deleterious to humans and thus need to be urgently mitigated. To address this issue of PAHs, this study was conducted to estimate qualitative of particulate PAHs contained in carbon composites in automobile exhaust gas, by capturing all particulate matter discharged from the latter. To allow for differentiated analyses, the automobiles investigated were divided into 4 groups: gasoline vehicle, motocycle, diesel vehicle, and LPG vehicle. Samples were analyzed using two methods. First, in-depth analysis was performed on organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) composites with analysis parameters, using the Thermal Optical Transmittance Method (NIOSH 5040). Second, for the examination of particulate PAHs, GC/MSD was used to analyze the 16 PAH species specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The analyses yielded the findings that diesel vehicles had the highest mass concentration ($2,007{\mu}g/m^3$), followed by motocycle ($1,066{\mu}g/m^3$), LPG vehicle ($392{\mu}g/m^3$), and gasoline vehicles ($270{\mu}g/m^3$). The highest carbon concentrations in total particulate matter by vehicle weight were produced from LPG vehicle (79.8%), followed by gasoline vehicle (77.4%), motocycle (69.8%), and diesel vehicle (59.1%).

  • The physicochemical characteristics of particulate matter emissions from various vehicle's fuel types were studied at the facility of Transport Pollution Research Center(TPRC), National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), Korea. Three different types of fuels such as gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and diesel were tested on the NIER driving mode and the constant speed modes(30, 70, and 110 km/h). Chemical composition of submicron particles from vehicle emissions was measured by the High Resolution Time of Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS) during running cycles. Organics were dominant chemical species of particulate matter emissions for all three different vehicles' fuel types. Moreover, regardless of fuel types, emission rate of organics and inorganics decreased as the average speed of vehicle increased. The portion of fully oxidized fragment families of $C_xH_yO_z$ accounted for over 98% of organic aerosol(OA) in LPG and diesel vehicles, while the relatively high fraction of $C_xH_y$ in OA was observed in gasoline vehicle.

발전용 가스엔진의 개발 및 연소특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development and the Combustion Characteristics of a Stationary Gas Engine)

  • Environmental concerns and shortage of petroleum have promoted considerable interest in the use of alternate fuels in stationary diesel engine. In this study, a heavy-duty, intercooler-turbocharged 6-cylinder stationary diesel engine was converted into stationary gas engine fueled with propane or natural gas for the cogeneration plants. One of the most important factors in the combustion features of a stationary gas engine is the fuel composition and operating parameters in terms of compression ratio, spark advance, and engine loads. Experiments with different fuel gas and load conditions were carried out with combustion pressure analysis and NOx measurement. Combustion analysis based on P-$\theta$ diagrams was also investigated by means of combustion duration and cycle variation. Compression ratio is 10.0 and ignition timing is set by using the gasoline setting as a base line and advanced toward BTDC. The results show that fuel composition and spark advance have dominant effects on combustion and NOx characteristics at operating conditions.

  • In recently, studies concerned to the diesel engine uses a natural gas as a fuel oil whose infra has been built already was approached to PCCI or HCCI with keeping a high thermal efficiency and reducing NOx and PM have been researching actively in normally single cylinder. An ignition source is required to bum the natural gas by a spark plug in gasoline engines, due to a higher auto-ignition temperature of natural gas. Then gas oil and DME were introduced as the ignition source. In this study as basic data for practical use of natural gas PCCI and HCCI engines, combustion characteristics and emission characteristics on 4-cylinders natural gas PCCI and HCCI engines with gas oil and DME as ignition sources were analyzed and the engine load range that is main object for practical use of PCCI and HCCI engines was made clearly by empirical experiment.

  • It is a present situation that the control on automobile emission is getting more restrictive and also the regulations for emission are changing greatly up to level of those advanced foreign countries. Specially, it has been many years that exhaust gases from gasoline automobile rather than from diesel is the major object concerned by Korea and other countries, and it is strongly required on the reduction techniques on harmful NOx and PM among those compositions. Thus, this research focused on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and the target fur this research is heavy-duty turbo-diesel engine with EGR, and conducted with numerical simulation to get engine performance and the characteristics of emission. Furthermore. the results obtained under different conditions such as rpm, power, EGR rate are compared and investigated with the numerical simulation using KIVA-3.
