This paper is intended to analyze the macroscopic behavior and transient atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline injector in direct-injection gasoline engine. The global spray behavior of fuel injector was visualized by shadowgraph technique. Time-resolved droplet axial and radial velocity components and droplet diameter were measured at many probe positions in both axial and radial directions by a two-component phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA). In order to obtain the influence of fuel injection pressure, the macroscopic visualization and experiment of particle measurement on the fuel spray were investigated at 3,5 and 7 MPa of injection pressure under different surrounding pressure in the spray chamber. The results of this work show that the fuel injection pressure of gasoline injector in GDI engine has influence upon the mean droplet diameter, mean velocity of spray droplet, the spray tip penetration, and spray width under the elevated ambient pressure.
This paper presents the effect of injection pressure on the atomization characteristics of high-pressure injector in a direct injection gasoline engine both experimentally and numerically. The atomization characteristics such as mean droplet size, mean velocity, and velocity distribution were measured by phase Doppler particle analyzer. The spray development, spray penetration, and global spray structure were visualized using a laser sheet method. In order to investigate the atomization process in more detail, the calculations with the LISA-DDB hybrid model were performed. The results provide the effect of injection pressure on the macroscopic and microscopic behaviors such as spray development, spray penetration, mean droplet size, and mean velocity distribution. It is revealed that the accuracy of prediction is promoted by using the LISA-DDB hybrid breakup model, comparing to the original LISA model or TAB model alone. And the characteristics of the primary and secondary breakups have been investigated by numerical approach.

In this paper, the spray atomization characteristics of a gasoline direct-injection injector were investigated experimentally and numerically. To visualize the developing spray process, a laser sheet method with a Nd :YAG laser was utilized. The microscopic atomization characteristics such as the droplet size and velocity distribution were also obtained by using a phase Doppler particle analyzer system at the 5 ㎫ of injection pressure. With the experiments, the calculations of spray atomization were conducted by using the KIVA code with the LISA-DDB breakup model. Based on the agreement with the experimental results, the prediction accuracy of LISA-DDB breakup model was investigated in terms of the spray shapes, spray tip penetration, SMD distribution, and axial mean velocity. The results of this study provides the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the spray atomization, and prediction accuracy of the LISA-DDB model.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the macroscopic spray characteristics and spray pattern of a gasoline direct injection (GDI) injector according to the increase of injection pressure. The macroscopic spray characteristics, such as a spray tip penetration and spray angle, were measured and analyzed from the frozen spray images, which are obtained from the spray visualization system including the high-speed camera, light-source, long-distance microscope (LDM). The spray pattern was analyzed through the deviation of the center of the spray plum and images were acquired using Nd: YAG Laser and ICCD(Intensified charge coupled device) camera. From the experiment and analysis, it revealed that the injection pressure have a significant influence on the spray tip penetration and spray pattern. However, the injection pressure have little influence on the spray angle. The increase of injection pressure induced the reduction of a closing delay. In addition, the deviation of spray center increase with the increase of injection pressure and the distance from a nozzle tip.
This study is focussed on the investigation of spray characteristics from the high pressure gasoline injector for the application of gasoline direct injection engine. For the analysis of spray structure of high pressure gasoline injector; the laser scattering method with a Nd-Yag laser and the Phase Doppler particle analyzer system were applied to observe the spray development and the measurement of the droplet size and velocity of the spray, respectively. Also spatial velocity distribution of the spray droplet was measured by use of the particle image velocity system. Experimental results show that high pressure gasoline injector shapes the hollow-cone spray, and produce the upward ring shaped vortex on the spray surface region. This upward ring shaped vortex promotes the secondary atomization of fuel droplets and contributes to a uniform distribution of fuel droplets. Most of fuel droplets are distributed under 31$\mu m$ of the mean droplet size (SMD) and the frequency distribution of the droplet size under 25$\mu m$ is over 95% at 7 MPa of injection pressure. According to the experimental results of PIV system, the flow patterns of the droplets velocity distribution in spray region are in good agreement with the spray macroscopic behaviors obtained from the visualization investigation.

Stratified charge compression ignition (SCCI) combustion, also known as HCCI(homogeneous charge compression ignition), offers the potential to improve fuel economy and reduce emission. In this study, SCCI combustion was studied in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine, with a direct injection system. We investigated the effects of air-fuel ratio, intake temperature and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable SCCI combustion region. Injection timing during the intake process was found to be an important parameter that affects the SCCI region width. We also find it. The effects of mixture stratification and fuel reformation can be utilized to reduce the required intake temperature for suitable SCCI combustion under each set of engine speed and compression ratio conditions.
Many countries are striving to reduce carbon emissions with the goal of net zero by 2050. Accordingly, vehicles are rapidly being electrified to reduce greenhouse gases in the transportation sector. However, many organizations predict that internal combustion engines of LDV (light-duty vehicle) will exist even in 2050, and it is difficult to electrify aircraft and large ships in a short time. Therefore, synthetic fuel (i.e., e-Fuel) that can reduce carbon emissions and replace existing fossil fuels is in the spotlight. The e-Fuel refers to a fuel synthesized by using carbon obtained through various carbon capture technologies and green hydrogen produced by eco-friendly renewable energy. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the injection and spray characteristics of the simulated e-Gasoline. We mixed the hydrocarbon fuel components according to the composition ratio of the synthetic fuel produced based on the FT(Fischer-Tropsch) process. As a result of injection rate measurement, simulated e-Gasoline showed no significant difference in injection delay and injection period compared to standard gasoline. However, due to the low vapor pressure of the simulated e-Gasoline, the spray tip penetration (STP) was lower, and the size of spray droplets was larger than that of traditional gasoline.

To improve the fuel consumption and exhaust emission for gasoline engines, GDI(Gasoline Direct Injection) system was spotlighted to solve above requirements. Thus, many researchers have been studied to investigate the spray characteristics and the mixture formation of GDI injector. In this study, we tried to study the spray characteristics of a gasoline direct injector by using entropy analysis and PlV methods. The entropy analysis is based on the concept of statistical entropy, and it identifies the degree of homogeneity in the fuel concentration. The PlV method was adopted to determine the fluid dynamics information at the spray. From the applied results on a direct injection gasoline spray, we could find that the direct diffusion phenomena was a dominant factor in the formation of a homogeneous mixture at downstream of GDI spray especially under vaporizing ambient conditions, and mixing phenomena was also progressed by momentum exchange with induced air. In addition, the correlation between entropy and vorticity strength enabled to find their relation.
In this paper, tile characteristics of flow resulting from the configurations of piston head and intake-port of the cylinder in a gasoline-direct-injection engine are investigated numerically. Calculations are carried out from intake process to the end of compression. GTT code which includes the third order upwind Chakravarthy-Osher TVD scheme and κ-ε turbulence model with the law of wall as a boundary condition. As a result, a piston head with a smaller radius of curvature and larger radius gives stronger reverse tumble. It is also shown that as the maximum tumble ratio increases by the configuration of the intake-port the tumble ratio at the end of compression stroke increases. It is concluded that flows at the end of compression stroke can be controlled by the optimum design of intake-port and piston head.
This paper described the effect of dual clutch transmissions on the stability emissions characteristic in a GDI engine at vehicle Inspection and Maintenance(I/M) program. In order to investigate the influence of direct injection gasoline engine with DCT, the experimental apparatus consisted of GDI engine with 4 cylinder, dynamometer and exhaust emissions analyzer. Analyzed emission gas include CO, HC and NOx results that DCT vehicle in the case of NOx, HC in automatic transmission vehicles less than 1/2 level was confirmed to be exhausted. However vehicle specific power increases CO also has increased.
