  • The gas jet pumps serve to preduce a vacuum or can be used as gas jet compressors. These are operated on the same principle as a steam jet vacuum pump : in the driving nozzle the pressure energy of the motive medium is converted into the kinetic energy. In the diffuser the driving jet mixes with the suction medium and the kinetic energy is reconverted into the pressure enegy. The application fields of gas jet ejectors are the evacuation of siphoning installations, the elevation of liquids, the production of vacuum filters, the vacuum supporting airlift system, the evacuation of the suction line of centrifugal pumps and the ventilation of the dangerous gases to the atmosphere. The performance of gas jet ejector is influenced strongly to velocity coefficient of motive nozzle, the distance between the motive outlet to the diffuser inlet and the dimensions of diffuser. This study is performed for the computer aided design of gas jet ejectors in future. Through the present experiments, it is known that the velocity coefficient of the motive air nozzle ranges from 0.91 to 0.95 and the maximum efficiency of gas jet ejector is 24.6%.

  • Existing cooling technologies no longer provide adequate heat dissipation due to excessive heat generation caused by the growing component density on electronic devices. An ionic gas pump can be used for the thermal management of micro-electronic devices, since the size of pump can be reduced to a micrometer scale. In addition, the gas pump allows for gas flow control and generation without moving parts. This ideal property of gas pump gives rise to a variety of applications. However, all these applications require maximizing the wind velocity of gas pump. In this study a barrier discharge type gas pump, with a needle-shaped corona electrode instead of a plate-shaped corona electrode, has been investigated by focusing on the corona electrode shape on the wind velocity and wind generation yield. As a result, the enhanced wind velocity and wind generation yield of 1.76 and 3.37 times were obtained with the needle-shaped corona electrode as compared with the plate-shaped corona electrode of the proposed barrier discharge type gas pump.

  • An Experimental study on the characteristics of high pressure gas quenching system was carried out in the present study. The characteristics of gas quenching system have been studied with high pressure gas chamber and specimen for various gas pressure and velocity which are the design parameter of quenching system. The quenching gas was used compressed air which properties are very similar with Nitrogen gas usually used in industrial gas quenching system. The result shows that the quenching rate of mid surface of specimen is lower than each ends of them which are close to low temperature quenching surface. And to increases the quenching intensity, the increment of quenching gas pressure is more efficient than the increment of quenching gas velocity at the point of reducing the circulation fan power.

  • As a rocket propellent of hydrocarbon fuels, the characteristics of liquefied natural gas was evaluated with the viewpoint of the constituents and content, the cooling performance as a coolant, and characteristic velocity and specific impulse as parameters of the engine performance. Content of methane was a principal factor to determine the characteristics as a rocket propellant and more than 90 % of it was needed as a fuel and coolant in the regenerative cooled liquid rocket engine. Some constituents of the liquefied natural gas can be frozen by the pre-cooling of the pipe lines, therefore they can be a factor disturbing the normal working of engine. In case the content of methane is around 90% in the liquefied natural gas, a normalized stoichiometric O/F mixture ratio of 0.75 is suggested for a nominal operation condition to get the maximum specific impulse and characteristic velocity.

  • This study analyzed on the characteristics of temperature distribution in an active regeneration DPF using computer simulation. In order to verify the boundary condition of analysis, results of temperature distribution in DPF are compared between experimental and computer simulation. Using this boundary condition, temperature distribution and filter's durability in DPF analyzed according to various operating conditions. The results of computational analysis are agreed well with experimental ones from the tendency of temperature distribution of axis and radius direction. The temperature increases and the axial temperature gradients in DPF according to velocity of exhaust gas are lowered as the high velocity of exhaust gas. But the temperature gradients of radius direction at exit side in DPF are grown as the high velocity of exhaust gas. The results according to inlet temperature of exhaust gas show that the increase ratios of temperature in DPF are grown as the high temperature of exhaust gas.

  • Fundamental combustion characteristics, such as the combustion potential, burning velocity and flame stability, for the practical utilization of LFG(Landfill gas) and LFG-blended fuels were experimentally investigated. The combustion potentials(CP) of LFG-blended fuels calculated from the previously suggested formulae were compared with burning velocities obtained by present experiments. The results showed that the previous formulae fur CP of LFG-blended fuels were not agreed with the experimental burning velocity, and these formulae should be revised. To provide an useful information needed to design the combustion devices, a triangular diagram was suggested for the maximum burning velocity of the mixture of CH$_4$, LPG and LFG. From the investigation of the burning velocity and the flame stability in a practical combustor, it was noted that the LFG-blended fuels, of which heating values or Wobbe indices were adjusted to that of natural gas, could be used as an alternative fuel of natural gas.

  • Energetic outflow from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) may play a critical role in galaxy evolution. We present a velocity diagnostics for detecting gas outflow in the narrow-line region of Type-2 AGNs using line-of-sight velocity offset of the [O III]${\lambda}5007$ and $H{\alpha}$ emission lines with respect to the systemic velocity of stars in host galaxies. We apply the diagnostics to nearby galaxies at 0.02 < z < 0.05: 3775 AGN-host and 907 star-forming galaxies as a comparison sample, which are selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey DR7. After obtaining a best-fit stellar population model for the continuum and a systemic velocity based on stellar lines, we subtract stellar component to measure velocity offsets of each emission line. We find a sample of 169 AGN-host galaxies with outflow signatures, displaying a larger velocity shift of [O III] than that of $H{\alpha}$, as expected in a decelerating outflow model. We find that the offset velocity of [O III] increases with Eddington ratio, suggesting that gas outflow depends on the energetics of AGN.

  • The effects of the regeneration parameters such as inlet gas temperature, space velocity, oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas, and initial particulate loading on the oxidation of the particulate inside ceramic cordierite filter have been investigated through an engine experiment. As the inlet gas temperature increases, the remarkable filter temperature occurs owing to the rapid combustion rate. Though the higher space velocity affirms the safe regeneration, it also requires much fuel consumption of the burner. For that reason, the space velocity should be compromised considering the fuel economy. The excessive accumulation of the particulate may cause undesirable regeneration temperatures inside filer even under the optimized regeneration condition. The inlet gas temperature should be selected to overcome the variation of the oxygen concentration which is inherent feature of the diesel engine. It is the most important factor in the regeneration control techniques.

  • On this paper study is concentrated on the breakup and atomization characteristics of spray formed by impinging jet injectors(like-doublet) used in liquid rocket engine(LRE). On the process of breakup and atomization, injection velocity and ambient gas pressure are the main parameters, so that these are used as variables that specify the experimental condition. Injection velocity varied from 3m/s to 30m/s and ambient gas pressure changed from 0.1MPa to 4.0MPa with nitrogen gas. As results, measured physical quantities decreased with increasing injection velocity and ambient gas pressure. But the decreasing ratios are different from those of the theory.

  • In external galaxies, the velocity dispersion of the atomic hydrogen gas shows a remarkably flat distribution with the galactocentric radius. This has been a long-standing puzzle because if the gas velocity dispersion is due to turbulence caused by supernova explosions, it should decline with radius. After a discussion on the role of spiral arms and ram pressure in driving interstellar turbulence in the outer parts of galactic disks, we argue that the constant bombardment by tiny high-velocity halo clouds can be a significant source of random motions in the outer disk gas. Recent observations of the flaring of H I in the Galaxy are difficult to explain if the dark halo is nearly spherical as the survival of the streams of tidal debris of Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy suggests. The radial enhancement of the gas velocity dispersion (at R > 25 kpc) due to accretion of cloudy gas might naturally explain the observed flaring in the Milky Way. Other motivations and implications of this scenario have been highlighted.
