한국의 가스터빈엔진 연소기 연구개발 동향 (Research and Development Trend of Gas Turbine Combustor in Korea)

  • The research and development history of the gas turbine combustor in Korea is introduced briefly. It is very important to understand the fuel spray, mixing phenomena in achieving combustion performance. In this paper, two kinds of fuel injection system such as duplex fuel injector and rotary spray system are introduced in developing gas turbine combustor in Korea. The extensive experimental research of fuel spray, ignition, performance and endurance rig test makes gas turbine combustor successfully in Korea.

  • 가스 터빈은 기동 및 정지 횟수가 많기 때문에 열피로나 취화 현상으로 인한 가스터빈 케이싱의 균열 또는 케이싱의 플랜지면에서 고온고압 가스의 누설이 발생할 가능성이 높다. 따라서 가스터빈 케이싱의 구조안전성 및 플랜지면에서의 누설평가는 반드시 수행되어야 하는 부분이다. 본 논문에서는 유한요소해석을 바탕으로 터빈 케이싱의 ASME B&PVC VIII-2 구조안전성 평가 및 접촉압력을 통한 누설 평가 그리고 볼트의 구조안전성 평가를 진행하였다. 또한 가스터빈 케이싱의 유한요소모델링 및 해석/평가 방법을 제안하여 가스터빈 개발에 활용할 수 있게 하였다.

Gas turbine Control using Neural-Network 2-DOF PID Controller

  • Since a gas turbine is made use of generating electricity for peak time, it is a very important to operate a peak time load with safety. The main components of a gas turbine are the compressor, the combustion chamber and the turbine. So, there also must be modeled a component of gas turbines for the control with safety but it is not easy. In this paper we acquire a transfer function based on the operations data of Gun-san gas turbine and study to apply Neural-Network 2-DOF PID controler to control loop of gas turbine to reduce phenomena caused by integral and derivative actions through simulation. We obtained satisfactory results to disturbances of subcontrol loop such as, fuel flow, air flow, turbine extraction temperature.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for the efficient preventive maintenance of aircraft gas turbine engine turbine blades. For this study, the types and characteristics of gas turbine engines and its turbine blades were studied, the turbine blade defect types that caused an In-Flight Shut Down(IFSD) were analyzed, the blade failure rate according to the blade life cycle was analyzed through the Weibull distribution, one of the statistical techniques. Through these research results, it is possible to supplement the problems of the life cycle management and maintenance method of the turbine blade, and to suggest the measures to strengthen the preventive maintenance of the turbine blade. In this analysis, when total cycle of turbine blade exceeds 18,000 cycles, the failure rate is over 98%, and then the special management measures are required.

  • Gas turbine technology has steadily advanced since its inception and continues to evolve. Development is active in producing both smaller gas turbines and more powerful and efficient engines. However, it is shown that our state-of-the-art technologies for gas turbine developments remain at a basic level by comparisons with advanced technology countries. This paper shows that development process and preliminary design tools for gas turbine combustor were introduced as a first results of source technology secure researches for the gas turbine combustors.

  • This paper describes gas turbine combustion characteristics of synthetic natural gas which contains a small amount hydrogen content. By conducting ambient pressure high temperature combustion test at gas turbine relevant combustor geometry, the combustion characteristics such as combustion instability, NOx and CO emission, temperatures at turbine inlet, nozzle and dump plane, and flame structure from high speed OH chemiluminescence images were investigated when changing hydrogen content from zero to 5%. From the results, qualitative and quantitative relationships are derived between key aspects of combustion performance, notably NOx/CO emission and combustion instability. Natural gas containing hydrogen up to 5% does not show significant difference in view of all combustion characteristics except combustion instability. Only up to 1% hydrogen addition could not change the pressure fluctuation and phase gas between fluctuations of pressure and heat release. From the results, it can be concluded that synthetic national gas which contains 1% of hydrogen can be guaranteed for the stable and reliable operation of natural gas firing gas turbine.

Neural Network Tuning of the 2-DOF PID Controller With a Combined 2-DOF Parameter For a Gas Turbine Generating Plant

  • The purpose of Introducing a combined cycle with gas turbine in power plants is to reduce losses of energy, by effectively using exhaust gases from the gas turbine to produce additional electricity or process. The efficiency of a combined power plant with the gas turbine increases, exceeding 50%, while the efficiency of traditional steam turbine plants is approximately 35% to 40%. Up to the present time, the PID controller has been used to operate this system. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain without any experience, since the gain of the PID controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error procedures. This paper focuses on the neural network tuning of the 2-DOF PID controller with a combined 2-DOF parameter (NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID controller), for optimal control of the Gun-san gas turbine generating plant in Seoul, Korea. In order to attain optimal control, transfer function and operating data from start-up, running, and stop procedures of the Gun-san gas turbine have been acquired and a designed controller has been applied to this system. The results of the NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID are compared with the PID controller and the conventional 2-DOF PID controller tuned by the Ziegler-Nichols method through experimentation. The experimental results of the NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID controller represent a more satisfactory response than those of the previously-mentioned two controllers.

  • Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant converts coal to syngas, which is mainly composed with hydrogen and carbon monoxide, by the gasification process and produces electric power by the gas and steam turbine combined cycle power plant. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the syngas to the performance of a gas turbine in a combined cycle power plant. For this purpose, a commercial gas turbine is selected and its performance characteristics are analyzed with syngas. It is found that different heating values of those fuels and chemical compositions in their combustion gases are the causes in the different performance characteristics. Also, Changing of turbine inlet Mass flow lead to change the turbine matching point, in the event the pressure ratio is changed.

  • This study aims at evaluation of component performance of a commercial micro gas turbine by detailed measurements of various system parameters. A test facility to measure performance of a micro gas turbine was set up. Performance parameters such as turbine exit temperature, exhaust gas temperature, engine inlet temperature, compressor discharge pressure and fuel flow rate were measured. Variations in measured data and estimated performance parameters were analyzed. In addition to overall engine performance, component characteristic parameters including the turbine inlet temperature, the compressor efficiency, the turbine efficiency, the recuperator effectiveness were estimated. Behaviors of the estimated characteristic parameters with operating condition change were examined.
