주변 사업장의 화학물질 확산 감지와 대응을 위한 경계면의 센서배치 최적화 및 강건성 분석 (Optimal Sensor Placement of Boundaries and Robustness Analysis for Chemical Release Detection and Response of Near Plant)

  • 최근 화학물질을 사용하는 시설이 증가하면서 동시에 시설의 노후화, 기계적 결함, 인적오류 등으로 화학물질 누출사고 피해가 많아지고 있다. 특히, 산업단지는 군집 특성으로 인해 화학물질 누출사고 발생 시 인근 사업장으로 확산되어 큰 피해로 이어질 가능성이 크다. 이에 따라 화학물질을 취급하는 공정의 누출조건, 환경조건을 반영한 다양한 누출 시나리오를 토대로 빠른 감지와 대응을 위해 경계면의 센서배치 방안을 제시할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 염소가스가 누출되는 경우에 대해 COMSOL를 사용하여 주요 매개변수의 적용으로 실질적인 사고 시나리오를 해석하였다. 그리고 사고 시나리오를 바탕으로, 센서의 감지 확률과 감지시간 등 각 항목마다 중요도를 부여하여 최적 위치가 산출되도록 목적함수를 선정하였다. 또한 예상치 못한 지역의 누출사고에 대해 최적화된 센서배치의 강건성 분석을 통해 본 방안의 타당성을 높였다. 결과적으로, 기존 방식보다 효과적으로 경계면의 센서배치 최적화 방법의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. 이상의 결과로 부터 이동식 센서의 배치방법과 농도 데이터를 기반으로, 누출원의 역추적에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Towards grain-scale modelling of the release of radioactive fission gas from oxide fuel. Part II: Coupling SCIANTIX with TRANSURANUS

  • The behaviour of the fission gas plays an important role in the fuel rod performance. In a previous work, we presented a physics-based model describing intra- and inter-granular behaviour of radioactive fission gas. The model was implemented in SCIANTIX, a mesoscale module for fission gas behaviour, and assessed against the CONTACT 1 irradiation experiment. In this work, we present the multi-scale coupling between the TRANSURANUS fuel performance code and SCIANTIX, used as mechanistic module for stable and radioactive fission gas behaviour. We exploit the coupled code version to reproduce two integral irradiation experiments involving standard fuel rod segments in steady-state operation (CONTACT 1) and during successive power transients (HATAC C2). The simulation results demonstrate the predictive capabilities of the code coupling and contribute to the integral validation of the models implemented in SCIANTIX.

  • This paper deals with the Safety Analysis for $CANDU^{(R)}$ 6 nuclear reactors as affected by main Heat Transport System (HTS) aging. Operational and aging related changes of the HTS throughout its lifetime may lead to restrictions in certain safety system settings and hence some restriction in performance under certain conditions. A step in confirming safe reactor operation is the tracking of relevant data and their corresponding interpretation by the use of appropriate thermal-hydraulic analytic models. Safety analyses ranging from the assessment of safety limits associated with the prevention of intermittent fuel sheath dryout for a slow Loss of Regulation (LOR) analysis and fission gas release after a fuel failure are summarized. Specifically for fission gas release, the thermal-hydraulic analysis for a fresh core and an 11 Effective Full Power Years (EFPY) aged core was summarized, leading to the most severe stagnation break sizes for the inlet feeder break and the channel failure time. Associated coolant conditions provide the input data for fuel analyses. Based on the thermal-hydraulic data, the fission product inventory under normal operating conditions may be calculated for both fresh and aged cores, and the fission gas release may be evaluated during the transient. This analysis plays a major role in determining possible radiation doses to the public after postulated accidents have occurred.

  • Th effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of combustion exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption(SFC) are experimentally investigated by four-cylin-der four-cycle and direct injection marine diesel engine. In order to reduce soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engines a novel diesel soot removal system with a cylinder-type scrubber which has water injector(4 nozzles in 1.0mm diameter)is specially designed and manufactured for the experi-mental system. The obtained results are as follows; The combustion pressure in cylinder is decreased and ignition is delayed with increasing EGR rate. The accumulated quantity of heat release is slightly decreased and the tendency of heat release rate is not constant. NOx and Soot emissions are decreased by maximum 7% and 540% with scrubber tan without scrubber in the range of experimental conditions. Those are increased at the lean burn area with increasing equivalence ration in the constant value of engine speed and EGR rate. Also those are decreased with increasing EGR rate in the constant value of engine speed and equivalence ratio.

COSMOS : A Computer Code for the Analysis of LWR $UO_2$ and MOX Fuel Rod

  • A computer code COSMOS has been developed based on the CARO-D5 for the thermal analysis of LWR UO$_2$ and MOX fuel rod under steady-state and transient operating conditions. The main purpose of the COSMOS, which considers high turnup characteristics such as thermal conductivity degradation with turnup and rim formation at the outer part of fuel pellet, is to calculate temperature profile across fuel pellet and fission gas release up to high burnup. A new mechanistic fission gas release model developed based on physical processes has been incorporated into the code. In addition, the features of MOX fuel such as change in themo-mechanical properties and the effect of microscopic heterogeneity on fission gas release have been also taken into account so that it can be applied to MOX fuel. Another important feature of the COSMOS is that it can analyze fuel segment refabricated from base irradiated fuel rods in commercial reactors. This feature makes it possible to analyze database obtained from international projects such as the MALDEN and RISO, many of which were collected from refabricated fuel segments. The capacity of the COSMOS has been tested with some number of experimental results obtained from the HALDEN, RISO and FIGARO programs. Comparison with the measured data indicates that, although the COSMOS gives reasonable agreement, the current models need to be improved. This work is being performed using database available from the OECD/NEA.

차아염소산나트륨을 이용한 천연가스 부취냄새 효과적 탈취방법 연구 (A Study on Effective Removal Method of Odorant Smell in Natural Gas using Sodium Hypochlorite)

  • 도시가스 회사는 설비의 유지보수 및 점검을 수행할 경우에 가스를 방산하는 경우가 있는데, 가스누출 오인으로 신고 및 주민불안이 발생하게 됨에 따라 활성물질을 통한 천연가스의 부취냄새를 효과적으로 탈취하는 방법을 연구하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 본 연구에서는 천연가스 부취냄새 탈취를 위해 활성물질인 차아염소산나트륨을 이용한 산화법을 통해 천연가스 부취제와 활성물질간 효율적 혼합방법을 위해 간이 탈취방산장치를 제작하여 현장에서 실험을 통해 부취농도를 확인하였다. 탈취실험장치의 기본원리는 방산되는 가스(0.8~1.0MPa)의 에너지를 이용하여 활성물질용액이 첨가되도록 하여 가스 내 부취제와 혼합과정을 거친 후 방출구를 통해 대기로 방산된다. 도시가스 부취제의 활성물질인 차아염소산나트륨을 이용하여 산화반응을 통해 벤츄리와 혼합용기의 직렬연결방식을 적용하여 제작한 장치를 통해 현장에서 효과적으로 부취냄새를 제거할 수 있었다. 하지만, 실질적인 효과를 거두기 위해서는 도시가스의 다량과 고압에서 방산되는 조건에서의 적용하는 문제해결 과제가 남아 있다.

독성물질 저장설비의 사고시 사업장외에 미치는 영향평가 (Offsite Risk Assessment on Toxic Release)

  • 위험물을 취급하는 사업장에서 인근에 미치는 영향을 평가할 때 독성물질의 누출은 가장 관심있는 분야중의 하나이다. 대표적인 시설로서 염산 생산시설을 선정하여 공정정보로부터 사고 시나리오를 선정하고 독성물질 누출시 사업장외로 영향을 미치는 사고 시나리오를 선정하여 환경부의 지침에 따라서 평가하였다. ALOHA를 활용하여서 최악의 사고 시나리오를 비롯한 사고 시나리오를 평가하였으며 이들의 사고시 피해완화대책도 살펴보았다. 평가결과 염산생산시설은 현재의 안전조치가 충분하여서 추가의 개선대책이 필요하지 않은 것으로 판명되었다.

  • Since the 90's, EDF and AREVA-NP have irradiated, up to very high burnups, lead assemblies housing $M5^{(R)}$ cladded fuels. Post-irradiation examination of high burnup $UO_2$ pellets show an increase in the fission-gas release rate, an increase in fuel swelling, and formation of fission-gas bubbles throughout the pellets. Xenon abundances were quantified, and phenomena leading to this bubble formation were identified. All examinations provided valuable data on the complex state of the fuel during irradiation. They show the good behavior of these fuels, exhibiting various microstructures at very high burnups, none of which is likely to lead to problems during irradiation.

  • A small-sized industrial diesel engine was converted to a spark ignited engine and then adapted for fuelling with natural gas. After conversion work, general combustion characteristics of the gas engine(such as ignition delay, main and total combustion durations, and heat release characteristics) were studied as a functio of major engine operating variables such as air to fuel ratio, spark timing, and spark plug type. Some other studies on cyclic variation characteristics in IMEP, Pmax and (dp/dφ)max, and also optimum combustion phasing angle were performed.

  • The key process in silicon surface micromachining is the selective etching of a sacrificial layer to release the silicon microstructure. The newly developed anhydrous HF/$CH_3$OH gas phase etching of TEOS (teraethylorthosilicate) sacrificial layers onto the polysilicon and the nitride substrates was employed to release the polysilicon microstructures. A residual product after TEOS etching onto the nitride substrate was observed on the surface, since a SiOxNy layer is formed on the TEOS/nitride interface. The polysilicon microstructures are stuck to the underlying substrate because SiOxNy layer does not vaporize. We found that the only sacrificial etching without any residual product and stiction is TEOS etching onto the polysilicon substrate.
