Performance test of 5MW class gasturbine combustor was carried out at combustor test facility of KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute). The combustor is dry low NOx type premixed combustor and fuel is natural gas. The characteristics of combustor were measured including emission, pressure pulsation and exit temperature distribution. Optimum operation point of combustor was found by changing parameters like fuel ratio between pilot and main burner. The test result showed that the combustor performance is sufficient to satisfy the gasturbine system requirement.
A gas-assisted hydraulic breaker uses both hydraulic and pneumatic energies and the appropriate balance between them mostly effects its performance. Mathematical modeling of the breaker is established and verified by experiment. Through sensitivity analysis using AMESim, the key design parameters are selected, which mostly affect the performance of the breaker. Taguchi method is used to optimize the key design parameters to maximize the output power for long and short strokes through simulation. As the result, the output power as well as the impact energy are increased significantly compared with the existing design. The pressure pulsation in the supply line is reduced to a tolerable level and the dynamic characteristics of the piston displacement is also improved by the optimization.
The exhaust gas flow in the inlet collector of close coupled catalyst(CCC) adapted to the exhaust manifold is very complex flow because the exhaust gas is a pulsation flow with several port flow. The distribution of gas flow and temperature in inlet collector effect to the efficiency of catalytic converter. In this study, it measures temperatures on several point in inlet collector with two kind of inlet collector volume. And it analyzes with CFD to exhaust manifold and close coupled catalyst for temperature and flow. Comparing to measured and analyzed result, it find increasing of collector volume effects to catalyst temperature distribution and uniformity of catalytic converter
This paper introduces a new concept compressor in which piston orbits in the cylinder having an annular space formed between two concentric circular walls. In this configuration, two gas pockets are formed with $180^{\circ}$ phase difference: one between the wrap of the orbiting piston and the inner cylinder wall and the other between the piston wrap and the outer cylinder wall. This alternating feature of gas compression and discharge processes yields several advantages such as low torque variation and low gas pulsation. Computer simulation program has been developed to evaluate the compressor performance. The volumetric, adiabatic, and mechanical efficiencies of the orbiter compressor are calculated to be $85.6\%,\;97.2\%,\;and\;95.2\%$, respectively, when it is used as an air compressor.
Compressor is a major noise source of air-conditioner. Especially, its low frequency band noise below 1000㎐ is very important because it will not be attenuated by passing through the cover panel and heat exchanger in air-conditioner. The factors affecting the low frequency band noise are studied by geometric similarity along with several experiments, and the low frequency noise is closely related with the discharge holes of muffler as well as the cavity of lower shell. Pulsation is an inherent phenomenon in reciprocating compressors. It interacts with piping to cause vibrations and performance problems. Indiscriminately connecting to a compressor can be dangerous and cost money in the form of broken equipment and piping, poor performance, inaccurate metering, unwanted vibration, and sometimes noise. Piping connected to a compressor can materially affect the performance and response. To minimize these detrimental effects, reciprocating compressor system should be equipped by pulsation suppression system. This study discusses pressure pulsation phenomena occurred in a reciprocating compressor system. An experiment applied air compressor unit, as pulsating pressure generator, has been done. The compressor was connected sequentially to a snubber model and pressure tank. Sensor probes were placed on the inlet and outlet pipes of snubber. Compressor was driven by a motor controlled by a frequency regulator. The experiment was conducted by adjusting the regulator at 40Hz. General information about an internal gas flow can be achieved by numerical analysis approach. Information of the velocity, pressure and turbulence kinetic energy distribution are presented in this paper. Based on this result, the design improvement might be done.
At the commissioning phase of KVN from 2009 to 2013, single-dish survey and monitoring observations were performed toward about 1000 evolved stars and about 60 relatively strong SiO and H2O maser sources respectively. Based on these single-dish results and VLBI feasibility test observations at K/Q/W/D bands in 2014, KVN Key Science Project (KSP) has started from 2015 and will be completed in 2019 as KSP phase I. Here we present the overview of observational studies on evolved stars using KVN. In KSP phase I, we have focused on nine KSP sources which show a successful astrometrically registered maps of SiO and H2O masers using the source frequency phase referencing method. We aim at investigating the spatial structure and dynamical effect from 43/42/86/129 GHz SiO to 22 GHz H2O maser regions associated with a stellar pulsation and development of asymmetry in circumstellar envelopes. Using the combined network KaVA (KVN+Japanese VLBI network VERA), KaVA Large Program titled on "Expanded Study on Stellar Masers: ESTEMA Phase I" was performed from 2015 to 2016. Based on ESTEMA Phase I, EAVN Large Program titled on "EAVN Synthesis of Stellar Maser Animations: ESTEMA Phase II" was also performed from 2018. The ESTEMA II project aims to publish composite animations of circumstellar H2O and SiO masers, which taken from up to 6 long-period variable stars with a variety of the pulsation periods (333-1000 days). The animations will exhibit the three-dimensional kinematics of the maser gas clumps with complexity caused by stellar pulsation-driven shock waves and anisotropy of clump ejections from the stellar surface. Adding three EAVN telescopes (Tianma 65m, Nanshan 26m and NRO 45m telescopes) with KaVA always secures the high quality of the maser image frames through the monitoring program.
A theoretical study of three-dimensional unsteady compressible non-reacting flow inside double flow of monolith catalytic converter system attached to 6-cylinder engine was performed for the achievement of performance improvement, reduction of light-off time, and longer service life by improving the flow distribution of pulsating exhaust gases. The differences between unsteady and steady-state flow were evaluated through the numerical computations. To obtains the boundary conditions to a numerical analysis, one dimensional non-steady gas dynamic calculation was also performed by using the method of characteristics in intake and exhaust system. Studies indicate that unsteady representation is necessary because pulsation of gas velocity may affect gas flow uniformity within the monolith. The simulation results also show that the level of flow maldistribution in the monolith heavily depends on curvature and angles of separation streamline of mixing pipe that homogenizes the exhaust gas from individual cylinders. It is also found that on dual flow converter systems, there is severe interactions of each pulsating exhaust gas flow and the length of mixing pipe and junction geometry influence greatly on the degree of flow distribution.
Pressure pulsation Inside the discharge and suction cavity of rotary and scroll compressor are often a major source of objectionable noise and vibration. The key factor of these noise and vibration is due to the cavity resonance. It is not only necessary to understanding the characteristics of pulsation in order to reduce the excitation force of gas to the cavity but also to verifying the phenomena of cavity resonance. For the purpose of these understandings, measurement and simulation of cavity resonance can lead to a better understandings how they occur and be very important to identify the ways to reduce the noise efficiently. In this paper, modeling of the cavity(internal acoustics inside the shell) is discussed and simulated using FEM. Results from the simulation are compared with those measurement in experiments. In describing of cavity mode by experiments, it is very important to specify the exact conditions under which they are measured. Finally, this paper shows the one example of reduced cavity resonance in the compressor.
This research represents the catalytic converter for application in the motorcycle. We have to consider about catalytic converter for reducing exhaust gas strength regarding the displacement volume enlargement. The catalytic converter has been widely used to satisfy the regulations of pollutant emissions from automobiles. Recently, all catalytic converter researches are about automobile. Study about motorcycle catalytic converter has not been conducted yet. In this study, flow uniformity and pressure distribution were simulated in the monolithic inlet of catalytic converter for motorcycle. Exhaust pulsation pressure was set as transient condition about. It was found that flow uniformity shown in base model (0.85) was lower than megaphone model (0.98).
