A Turbulent Bounbary Layer Effect of the De-Laval Nozzle on the Combustion Chamber Pressure (De-Laval 노즐의 난류 경계층 유동이 연소실 압력에 미치는 영향)

  • A Compuressible turbulent boundary layer effect of the high temperature, accelerating gas flow through the De-Laval nozzle on combustion chamber pressure is numerically investigated. For this purpose, the coupled momentum integral equation and energy integral equation are solved by the Bartz method, and 1/7 power law for both the turbulent boundary layer velocity distribution and temperature distribution is assumed. As far as the boundary layer thicknesses are concerned, we can obtain reasonable solutions even if relatively simple approximations to the skin friction coefficient and stanton number have been used. The effects of nozzle wall cooling and/or mass flow rate on the boundary layer thicknesses and the combustion chamber pressure are studied. Specifically, negative displacement thickness is appeared as the ratio of the nozzle wall temperature to the stagnation temperature of the free stream decreases, and, consequently, it makes the combustion chamber pressure low.

  • In order to study the performance characteristics of the thrust vector nozzle, the test facility and instrumentation system were designed. In this system, axial thrust, moment, exhaust gas velocity and pressure will be measured by using the scale down experimental model devices. The test facility are composed of high pressure air storage system, flow measuring and control system, test nozzle and thrust measurement system.

  • When high-pressure gas is exhausted through nozzle exit to the atmosphere, expanded supersonic jet is formed with the Mach disk at a specific condition. In two-dimensional supersonic jets, the hysteresis phenomenon of the reflected shock waves is found to occur under quasi-steady flow conditions. Transitional pressure ratio between the regular reflection and Mach reflection in the jet is affected by this phenomenon. In the present study, experiments are carried out on internal flow in a supersonic nozzle to clarify the hysteresis phenomena for the shock waves and to discuss its interdependence on the rate of the change of pressure ratio with time. Flow visualization is carried out separately on the straight and divergent channels downstream of the nozzle throat section. The influence that the hysteresis phenomena have on the location of shock wave in a supersonic nozzle is also investigated experimentally.

  • This paper describes ozone concentration and discharge characteristics in flowing $O_2$ with variation of Re at high voltage nozzle(HVN). HVN type ozonizer is equipped with ten nozzle. The important conclusions obtained from this paper are as follows. For constant pulse width(Pw) and pulse frequency(Pf) the more Re increases, the higher corona onset voltage(Vc) rise. Vc is inversely proportional to Pw and Pf. Ozone concentration($O_{3con}$) increases with less Re for constant Pw and Pf. $O_{3con}$ increases with less Pw. $O_{3con}$ is proportional to Pf.

  • In this study, the ejector design was modeled using Fluent 6.3 of FVM(Finite Volume Method) CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) techniques to resolve the flow dynamics in the ejector. A vacuum system with the ejector has been widely used because of its simple construction and easy maintenance. Ejector is the main part of the desalination system, of which designs determine the efficiency of system. The effects of the ejector was investigated geometry and the operating conditions in the hydraulic characteristics. The ejector consists mainly of a nozzle, suction chamber, mixing tube (throat), diffuser and draft tube. Liquid is supplied to the ejector nozzle, the fast liquid jet produced by the nozzle entrains and the non condensable gas was sucked into the mixing tube. The multiphase CFD modeling was carried out to determine the hydrodynamic characteristics of seawater-air ejector. Condition of the simulation was varied in entrance mass flow rate (1kg/s, 1.5kg/s, 2kg/s, 2.5kg/s, 3kg/s), and position of driving nozzle was located from the central axis of the suction at -10mm, 0mm, 10mm, 20mm, 30mm.. Asaresult, suction flow velocity has the highest value in central axis of the suction.

  • The results of systematic numerical experiments of secondary gas injection thrust vector control are presented. The effects of secondary injection system such as injection location and nozzle divergent cone angle onto the overall performance parameters such as thrust ratio, specific impulse ratio and axial thrust augmentation, are investigated. Complex nozzle exhaust flows induced by the secondary jet penetration is numerically analyzed by solving unsteady three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model for closure. Numerical simulations compared with the experiments of secondary air injection into the rocket nozzle of $9.6^{\cire}$ divergent half angle showed good agreement. The results obtained in terms of overall performance parameters showed that locating the secondary injection orifice further downstream of primary nozzle ensures the prevention of occurrence of reflected shock wave, therefore is suitable for efficient and stable thrust vectoring over a wide range of use.

Conjugate Heat Transfer Analysis for High Pressure Cooled Turbine Vane in Aircraft Gas Turbine (항공기용 가스터빈의 고압 냉각터빈 노즐에 대한 복합열전달 해석)

  • Conjugate heat transfer analysis was performed to investigate the flow and cooling performance of the high pressure turbine nozzle of gas turbine engine. The CHT code was verified by comparison between CFD results and experimental results of C3X vane. The combination of k-${\omega}$ based SST turbulence model and transition model was used to solve the flow and thermal field of the fluid zone and the material property of CMSX-4 was applied to the solid zone. The turbine nozzle has two internal cooling channels and each channel has a complex cooling configurations, such as the film cooling, jet impingement, pedestal and rib turbulator. The parabolic temperature profile was given to the inlet condition of the nozzle to simulate the combustor exit condition. The flow characteristics were analyzed by comparing with uncooled nozzle vane. The Mach number around the vane increased due to the increase of coolant mass flow flowed in the main flow passage. The maximum cooling effectiveness (91 %) at the vane surface is located in the middle of pressure side which is effected by the film cooling and the rib turbulrator. The region of the minimum cooling effectiveness (44.8 %) was positioned at the leading edge. And the results show that the TBC layer increases the average cooling effectiveness up to 18 %.

Effects of Fuel Nozzle Diameter in the Behavior of Laminar Lifted Flame (노즐 직경 변화가 층류부상화염 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • Experimental study was conducted to clarify the importance of buoyancy effects in laminar lifted flames which have been well understood by cold jet similarity theory. To evaluate buoyancy effects, lifted flame behaviors were systematically observed in methane and propane lifted flames diluted with He as changing the fuel nozzle diameter from 0.1 to 6 mm. Important physical parameters such as fuel strength, flame stretch and flame curvature, which were derived through simple physical scaling laws, were estimated. It is experimentally proven that buoyancy effects are important in relatively large fuel nozzle diameter and large fuel dilution with He.   • An update and the latest results on molten metal atomization using a Pressure-Gas-Atomizer will be given. This atomizer combines a swirl-pressure atomizer, to generate a liquid hollow cone film and a gas atomizer to atomize the film and/or the fragments of the film. The paper is focused on powder production, but this atomization system is also applicable for deposition purposes. Different alloys (Sn, SnCu) were atomized to study the characteristics of the Pressure-Gas-Atomizer.
