  • A bathtub vortex above the outlet of a rotating barrel is simulated. By analyzing the Ekman layer theory, it can be found that the main flow circulation is inversely proportional to the thickness of Ekman layer. The thicker the Ekman boundary layer, the weaker the rotational strength and the shorter of the length of gas core is. According to this law, models of barriers with rods of different heights are established. The reduction of air-core length in this air entrainment vortex and weakening the strength of rotation field were achieved.

  • In order to design the current carrying conductor for GIS, it is important to predict temperature-rise when rated current flows in the bus bar. However, it is not easy to apply the correct heat transfer coefficient on the boundary between different material for the thermal analysis. In this paper, the heat transfer coefficient which depends on parameters such like material constant, model geometry as well as ambient temperature, was calculated by analytic method. The calculated coefficient is used for the temperature rise prediction by F.E.M. The results show good agreement with experimental data.

  • An arc model based on the N-S equations modified by adding an energy source term to take account of the arc is developed and solved using Taylor-Galerkin FEM. The numerical method is applied to the simulation of the interruption process of a puffer type GCB. Moving boundary conditions of the arc chamber during operation is taken into account. The thermal interruption capability of an actual puffer type GCB will be predicted and compared with that of the measured result.

  • Finite element analysis was performed to analyze structural safety of a new heavy-duty direct injection diesel engine. A half section of the in-line 6-cylinder engine was selected as a computational domain. A mapping method was used to project heat transfer coefficients from CFD results of engine coolant flow onto the FE model. The accurate setting of thermal boundary condition on the FE model was expected to result in improved prediction of temperature, cylinder bore distortion, and stresses. Characteristics of high cycle fatigue were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under the following five loading conditions repeatedly; assembly force, assembly force with thermal loading, alternating maximum gas pressure loading at each cylinder combined with assembly force and thermal loading. Distribution of fatigue safety factor was calculated by using it Haigh diagram in which the maximum and the minimum stresses were selected from the five loading cases.

  • In this research, a computer analysis has been developed for predicting the Pipe pressure of the intake and exhaust manifold in a small single cylinder engine. To get the boundary conditions for a numerical analysis one dimensional and unsteady gas dynamic calculation is performed by using the MOC(Method Of Characteristics). The main numerical parameters are engine revolutions. to calculate the Pulsating flow which the intake and exhaust valves are working. The distributions of the exhaust pipe pressures were influenced strongly to the cylinder pressures and the shapes of exhaust pressure variation were similar to the Inside of cylinder pressure As the engine revolutions are increased. the intake pressure was lower than ambient pressure. The amplitude of exhaust pressure had increased and the phase of cylinder pressure $P_c$ is delayed and the amplitude of cylinder pressure were increased.

  • numerical simulation of unsteady heat conduction equation were carried out by finite control volume method using the gas temperature derived from fire model as a boundary value. The reduction of compressive and flexural by heating were calculated from the temperature and the given reduction rate. It is shown that this method could be well applied to assess the safety of concrete column or beam of the burned building.

  • Normal modes of crystalline orthorhombic sulfur belonging to the space group $D_{2h}$-Fddd, have been evaluated by taking the lowest temperature phase in the solid. Normal modes are obtained by the valence force field with modified force constants and a quantitative description of the mode is adjusted by the potential energy distribution. Since the full crystal system of orthorhombic sulfur is so large, we intended to calculate the normal modes simply by constructing the imaginary box made by the infinite mass boundary. And the Raman experiment is done by using the more powerful Ar-Kr gas laser with lowering the temperature to ${\sim}10^{\circ}K$.

  • Experiments of Counter-Current Flow Limit(CCFL or Flooding) is performed to improve the drawbacks of Wallis' Correlation which neglects the effects of channel size, channel length, injection method and the boundary conditions at the inlet of liquid and gas phase. In this study, CCFL is observed by changing shape of porous plate using air and water. Results show that as the size of porous increases, CCFL with round shape of the porous plate decreases. In the present study, a CCFL correlation is developed and the CCFL map is proposed based on the present experimental results. developed by this experimental study.

  • We conduct numerical simulations of the interaction of a deformable structure with two-phase compressible flow. The finite volume method (FVM) is used to simulate fluid phenomena including a shock wave, a gas bubble, and the deformation of free surface. The deformation of a floating structure is computed with the finite element method (FEM). The compressible two-phase volume of fluid (VOF) method is used for the generation and development of a cavitation bubble, and the immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to impose the effect of the structure on the fluid domain. The result of the simulation shows the generation of a shock wave, and the expansion of the bubble. Also, the deformation of the structure due to the hydrodynamic loading by the explosion is identified.
