The basic equations are derived for the analysis of a stepped labyrinth gas seal which are generally used in high performance compressors, gas turbines, and steam turbines. The Bulk-flow is assumed for a single cavity control volume and the flow is assumed to be completely turbulent in circumferential direction. Moody's wall-friction-factor formula is used for the calculation of wall shear stresses in the single cavity control volume. For the reaction force developed by the seal, linearized zeroth-order and first-order perturbation equations are developed for small motion about a centered position. Integration of the resultant first-order pressure distribution along and around the seal defines the rotordynamic coefficients of the stepped labyrinth gas seal. The leakage and rotordynamic characteristic results of the stepped labyrinth gas seal are presented and compared with Scharrer's theoretical analysis using Blasius' wall-friction-factor formula.

With the development of the electronic-materials industry, multi-functional metal-composite materials with high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion must be developed for high reliability and high life expectancy. This paper is a preliminary study on the manufacturing technology of gas reaction control composite material, focusing on the prediction of the equivalent thermal properties of Al-AlN composite materials. Numerical equivalent property values are obtained by using finite element analysis and compared with theoretical formulas. Al-AlN composite materials should become the optimal composite material when the proportion of the reinforcing phase is less than 0.5.
The gas spring is a hydropneumatic adjusting element, consisting of a pressure tube, a piston rod, a piston and a connection fitting. The gas spring is filled with compressed nitrogen within the cylinder. The filling pressure acts on both sides of the piston and because of area difference it produces an extension force. Therefore, a gas spring is similar in function compare to mechanical coil spring. Conversely, optimization is a process of finding the best set of parameters to reach a goal while not violating certain constraints. The AMESim software provides NLPQL (Nonlinear Programming by Quadratic Lagrangian) and GA (genetic algorithm) for optimization. The NLPQL method builds a quadratic approximation to the Lagrange function and linear approximations to all output constraints at each iteration, starting with the identity matrix for the Hessian of the Lagrangian, and gradually updating it using the BFGS method. On each iteration, a quadratic programming problem is solved to find an improved design until the final convergence to the optimum design. In this study, we conducted optimization design of the gas spring reaction force with NLPQL.

Compared to conventional flame combustion, catalytic combustion had the advantage of oxidation of V.O.C. gas which was high voluminous, low caloric mixture flow. However, the temperature of mixture gas should be over the one of catalytic reaction start and the control of reaction on the catalytic surface tends to be vulnerable. To overcome these obstacles, composition of both catalytic combustor and heat exchanger was devised and named the sequential catalytic combustion system. In this system, only trigger unit needed preheating process for transient starting time. Once trigger unit was ignited, the next unit w3s supplied heat to ignite from that and same process was performed to the last one sequentially. When it come to steady state, whole mixture gas was oxidated at each unit simultaneously and preheating for trigger unit was not needed any more. System of 100 kcalh/hr capacity was devised and operated successfully.
Unlike a typical metal spring, a gas spring uses compressed gas contained in a cylinder and compressed by a piston to exert a force. A common application includes automobiles where gas spring are incorporated into the design of open struts that support the weight of tail gate. They are also used in furniture such as office chairs, and in medical and aerospace applications. The gas spring works by the application of pressurized gas (nitrogen) contained in a cylinder. The internal pressure of the gas spring greatly exceeds atmospheric pressure. This differential in pressure exists at any rod position and generates an outward force on the rod, making the gas spring extend. In this paper, we investigated the dynamic characteristics of a gas spring on an automotive tail gate system.
In the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient(API) manufacturing company, since the product is produced by the chemical reaction, fire and explosion are frequently occurred in the process of inputting the raw powder as the chemical reaction stage. There are not many studies on safety measures through analysis of cause of accident in the actual chemical reaction stage. In this study, we investigated the heat flow in the boron removal reaction process to investigate the risk in the chemical reaction stage. The study reaction process was performed by using the reaction calorimeter for the products synthesized at the actual raw material in pharmaceutical factory. The risk was estimated by comparing the maximum temperature of the synthesis reaction, which can generate heat due to the failure of cooling in the actual manufacturing process, and the technical temperature. These results are applied to commercial manufacturing sites and safety measures to control the risk of runaway reaction due to reaction heat are suggested.
This study investigated the influence of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and progesterone on acrosome reaction and proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) composition boar sperm. The sperm were diluted with semen extender and incubated with NaHCO3 and progesterone at 38℃, 5% CO2 for 6 h. Plasma membrane integrity and acrosome reaction were analyzed using SYBR14/propidium iodide (PI) and FITC-PNA/PI doubling staining method, and proportion of PUFA was analyzed using gas chromatography. In results, Plasma membrane integrity was significantly decreased in 50 mM NaHCO3 group and acrosome reaction was significantly increased by over the 100 mM NaHCO3 group compared to control group (p < 0.05). In addition, progesterone significantly increased decreased plasma membrane integrity at 100 mM progesterone and acrosome reaction at over the 5.0 µM progesterone (p < 0.05), but there was no difference among the 5.0 to 100 µM groups. PUFAs were significantly decreased in 100 mM NaHCO3 and 50 µM progesterone treatments compared to control group. In summary NaHCO3 and progesterone induce acrosome reaction and reduce PUFA composition in boar sperm, therefore, the results maybe help to understand basically knowledge for the acrosome reaction and PUFA composition in boar sperm.

This study explores the numerical analysis method of fluid dynamics in the reaction section to improve the gas processing efficiency in the hazardous gas removal by atmospheric thermal plasma. This study also intends to contribute in technology advance to improve the processing efficiency and make the process more stable. Numerical analysis of temperature distribution in the reaction section dependent on the change in flow velocity of Ar and plasma temperature change, which are major control variables in the cracking process of HFC-23 using arc plasma, was done. The characteristic of incoming oxygen by temperature suggested that when temperature increased to 1600K, 1700K, 1800K respectively, the range of cracking temperature 1500K increased to 75.0%, 83.3%, 90.2% respectively. The temperature change of Ar by velocity change was widest in the area higher than 1500K when the velocity was 2.5m/s; however, since there was no big difference when the velocity was 2m/s, it is believed that 2 m/s would be most proper.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the tensile bond strength of In-Ceram alumina core treat-ed by ion assisted reaction(IAR). Ion assisted reaction is a prospective surface modification technique without damage by a keV low energy ion beam irradiation in reactive gas environments or reactive ion itself. 120 In-Ceram specimens were fabricated according to manufacturer's directions and divided into six groups by surface treatment methods of In-Ceram alumina core. SD group(control group): sandblasting SL group: sandblasting + silane treatment SC group: sandblasting + Siloc treatment IAR I group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with argon ion and oxygen gas IAR II group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion and oxygen gas IAR III group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion only For measuring of tensile bond strength, pairs of specimens within a group were bonded with Panavia 21 resin cement using special device secured that the film thickness was $80{\mu}m$. The results of tensile strength were statistically analyzed with the SPSS release version 8.0 programs. Physical change like surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core treated by ion assistad reaction was evaluated by Contact Angle Measurement, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy; chemical surface change was evaluated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The results as follows: 1. In tensile bond strength, there were no statistically significant differences with SC group, IAR groups and SL group except control group(P<0.05). 2. Contact angle measurement showed that wettability of In-Ceram alumina core was enhanced after IAR treatment. 3. SEM and AFM showed that surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core was not changed after IAR treatment. 4. XPS showed that IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core was enabled to create a new functional layer. A keV IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core could enhanced tensile bond strength with resin cement. In the future, this ion assisted reaction may be used effectively in various dental materials as well as in In-Ceram to promote the bond strength to natural tooth structure.
