  • Cuticular hydrocarbons of antenna, legs and wings from two species of honeybee worker of Apis mellifera L. and Apis cerana F. can be analyzed directly with gas chromatograph and GC/MS without solvent extraction. The saturated hydrocarbons identified in selected part of both species were nC22, nC23, nC25-nC3O, nC32 and nC34 except nC24. Two saturated hydrocarbons, nC26 (23.0-42.6%) and nC28 (16.8-54.8%), were major compounds in both species and others were minor compounds. A. mellifera can be distinguished from A. cerana F. by having higher proportion of nC30, nC32 and nC34 by having lower proportion of nC25 from three selected part of both species.

  • Hydrogen permeability is widely used to evaluate the polymer membrane durability of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEMFC). Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) is mainly used to measure hydrogen permeability easily. There are many differences in LSV measurement method among researchers, and it is often difficult to compare the results. Therefore, in this study, we tried to confirm the accuracy by comparing the hydrogen permeability of LSV method and gas chromatograph which is difficult to measure but accurate value. The LSV method used the DOE and NEDO methods. When the hydrogen permeability was measured by varying the temperature and the relative humidity, the DOE LSV method showed an accuracy of less than 5% in the error range compared with the GC method. In the NEDO LSV method, the error was reduced when the hydrogen permeation current density was determined at the current value of 0.3 V as the DOE method.

  • Crude oil is complex mixture of thousands of different organic compound formed from a variety of organic materials that are chemically converted under differing geological conditions over long periods of time. Also oil composition varies according to crude source, refining, processing, handling and storage. The oil fingerprint method is application of specific knowledge of petrochemicals and use of sophisticated analytical equipment and techniques to identify the source(s) of oil pollution. KNMPA currently utilizes three primary analytical techniques: Gas Chromatography (GC), Fluorescence Spectroscopy(FL) and Infrared Spectroscopy(IR). Of all these techniques, GC technique are most widely used. Gas Chromatography is used as a primary analytical method because high reliableness, high separating efficiency and repeatability, but it is timeconsumable. The study results of identification of waterborne spilled oil by Fast Gas Chromatograph method showed that analytical time is cut down to 30minutes in comparison with packed column method and chromatograms represent high resolution and high repeatability.

  • Zanthoxylum schinifolium and Zanthoxylum piperitum A.P. DC. belong to the Rutaceae family and are perennial, aromatic, and medicinal herbaceous plants. In this study, their aroma compounds were isolated by steam distillation extraction using a Clevenger-type apparatus, and then further analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The yields of the essential oils from Z. schinifolium and Z. piperitum AP. DC. were 2.5 and 2.0%(w/w), respectively, and the color of their oils was quite similar, a pale yellow. From the distilled oil of Z. schinifolium, 60 volatile compounds which make up 87.24% of the total composition were tentatively identified, with monoterpenes predominating. $\beta$-Phellandrene (22.54%), citronellal (16.48%), and geranyl acetate (11.39%) were the predominantly abundant components of Z. schinifolium. In the essential oil of Z. piperitum AP. DC., 60 volatile flavor components constituted 94.78% of the total peak area were tentatively characterized. Limonene (18.04%), geranyl acetate (15.33%), and cryptone (8.52%) were the major volatile flavor compounds of Z. piperitum A.P. DC.

  • Organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) contents in the sewage sludge derived from the residential and industrial areas were determined in order to characterize contemporary organic contamination levels as a part of the ongoing development of the environmentally sound sewage sludge management strategy in Korea. OPPs were extracted from freeze-dried sludges in a ultrasonic extractor. The extracts were cleaned-up by florisil column and subsequently fed into gas chromatograph/nitrogen phosphorus detector (GC/NPD) for determining OPP contents. Diazinon, dimethoate, disulfoton, EPN, malathion, methyl parathion, parathion, phorate and sulfotep were present in the appreciable amount in the domestic sewage sludges. The sum of the 9 OPPs in the sewage sludge varied from 534.8 to 15552.1 ${\mu}g/kg$, dry wt..

  • Volatile organic compounds in the ambient air were gathered irregularly by normal temperature concentrating method at Odea-ri and Oceon-ri Ulsan-gun in the neighbourhood of Ulsan Petrochemical Industrial Complex and analyzed with gas chromatograph. Several hydrocarbons in common aklospheric air or emitted fugitively from the chemical plants were identified and quantified by comparison with the retention times of standard compounds. The results from several field surveys in 1992 show that the concentrations of styrene at residential area of Odea-ri and Ocheon-ri were less than 0.4 ppm, but once a while greater within the chemical plants area. When it smelled unpleasantly in these area, the concentration of hydrocarbons were also high. It was concluded that the close and long-term investigation about other odorous components but hydrocarbons will be necessary to ascertain the cause of unpleasant odor of these area.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the heat value change by various conditions of wood sawdust gasification in the 1-dimensional downdraft flow fixed bed gasifier. The preheated air and steam were used as a gasifying agent. The components of syngas were influenced increasing residence time of supplied agent. The operating parameters, the supplied agent temperature and steam addition were used. The oxidizer temperature was varied from 500K to 620K. The gasification process was monitored by measuring temperature at three points near the biomass using R-type thermocouples and the syngas composition was analyzed by gas chromatograph. We get the sample gas at the end of gasifier. Finally, the amount of hydrogen and methane were increased widely as increasing the oxidizer temperature and adding steam.

  • Combustion of refuse derived fuel(RDF) and refuse plastic fuel (RPF) was carried out in a lab-scale circulating fluidized bed. Experiment was investigated cold flow visualization. RDF was made by C & tech and RPF was made by KRS. The results include distribution of temperature in the combustion chamber, and concentrations of flue gas such as $O_2$, $CO_2$, CO, $NO_x$ and HCs Micro G.C(gas chromatograph) was employed to find out concentration of He Temperature distribution was different when RDF and RPF were burnt respectably. As air ratio became increased, $CO_2$, CO, and total of HCs emissions were decreased. According to the number of carbon atom of HCs, HC were classified as five kinds of HC.
