Porous ceramics are widely used for applications such as catalysis supports, gas distributors and filters such as DPF. For these purpose, it is important to have proper porosity controlling pore structure while maintaining mechanical and thermal properties. In this work, we have prepared the porous ceramic structures made of reaction bonded silicon nitride with hierarchical pore structures. Uni-directionally aligned pore channels, which are mostly filled with ${\beta}$-Si3N4 whiskers, were achieved by an ice-templating method. The structures of the pore channels and the walls are controllable by the processing conditions, such as solid concentration, freezing rate of the slurry, and additives. We have investigated and characterized the influences of the conditions on the microstructures and the properties, such as porosity, pore size distribution, lamellar thickness, wavelength, and orientations. The compressive strength test and flow test was performed to determine the structural integrity and air permeability.
Gas-assisted injection molding is an innovative low-pressure injection molding technique that can provide numerous benefits such as reduced part warpage, excellent surface quality without sink marks, low injection pressure, and greater design flexibility. However, the adoption of gas-assisted injection molding may cause unexpected defects if the gas channel design is not conducted properly. The objective of this paper is to broaden the understanding of gas-assisted injection molding by summarizing the design procedures and experimental results of the gas-assisted injection molding of a 17" flat monitor front cover. The gas channels were designed by using Moldflow(MF/GAS) simulations and a 450 ton injection molding machine with a 5 stage pressure control gas kit was used in the experiments.
In the present experimental study, the regime limit and pressure drop of dry-plug flow (dry wall condition at the gas portions of plug flow) in round mini-channels has been investigated. The air-water mixture was flowed through the round mini-channels made of Teflon, where the tube diameters ranged from 1.26 to 2.06 mm. For the present experimental range, with decreasing of the tube diameter, the transition between the plug and slug flows (wet and dry) happened at the higher gas superficial velocity region, which were in good agreement with the previous flow pattern maps tested. On the other hand, the transition between the wet- and dry-plug flows was little affected by the change of the tube diameter. In the pressure drop of dry-plug flows, among the correlations tested, the Lee and Lee's (2008) correlation best fitted the measured pressure drop data within the mean deviation of 10% for the present experimental range.
The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is applied to investigate the flow field of a disk-type drag pump. The pumping channels are cut on both sides of a rotating disk. The rotor has 10 Archimedes' spiral blades. In the present DSMC method, the variable hard sphere model is used as a molecular model, and the no time counter method is employed as a collision sampling technique. For simulation of diatomic gas flows, the Larsen-Borgnakke phenomenological model is adopted to redistribute the translational and internal energies.
The gas-phase nucleophilic substitution reaction of pentafluoroanisole with $OH^-$ and ${NH_2}^-$ nucleophiles have been studied theoretically using the AM1 method. Three reaction channels, $S_N2$, IPSO and $S_NAr$ (scheme 1), are all very exothermic so that all are accessible despite the varying central energy barriers which are much lower than the reactants level. In the IPSO and $S_NAr$ channels, the reactants form directly a stable ,${\sigma}$-anion complex which proceeds to form a proton transfer complex via a transition barrier corresponding to a loose ${\pi}$-type complex with the F-(or ${OCH_3}^-$) leaving group. Due to a greater number of probable reaction sites available for $S_NAr$ compared to the other two processes, the $S_NAr$ channel is favored as experimentally observed.

Analysis of the uncertainty to have engineering solution of gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic problems is based on the comparison the prospective engineering solution with experimental result. In this paper, the mathematical model to estimate heat flux along gas-dynamic channel wall and the solution sequence are shown. Statistical information and generalizing experimental characteristics about gas- and hydro-dynamic channels were applied to the mathematical model. As the results, it is possible to draw a conclusion that models of the integrated approach, using the averaged statistical data of generalizing characteristics for a turbulent flow, without consideration of the turbulent mechanism (characteristic pulsations), can predict a nominal operating regime for gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic systems. The probable deviation of operating regime for newly designed the gas-dynamic channel can achieve 20% from a regime predicted on a basis 1-D or 3-D modelling irrespective of a kind of used models.
Numerical and experimental investigations are peformed for the rarefied gas flows in pumping channels of a helical-type drag pump. Modern turbomolecular pumps include a drag stage in the discharge side, operating roughly in $10^{-2}{\sim}10Torr$. The flow occurring in the pumping channel develops from the molecular transition to slip flow traveling downstream. Two different numerical methods are used in this analysis: the first one is a continuum approach in solving the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions, and the second one is a stochastic particle approach through the use of the direct simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC) method. The flow in a pumping channel is three-dimensional(3D), and the main difficulty in modeling a 3D case comes from the rotating frame of reference. Thus, trajectories of particles are no longer straight lines. In the Present DSMC method, trajectories of particles are calculated by integrating a system of differential equations including the Coriolis and centrifugal forces. Our study is the first instance to analyze the rarefied gas flows in rotating frame in the presence of noninertial effects.

The numerical analysis for the verification of preburner's cooling characteristics applying to kerosene-LOx rocket engine has been fulfilled. The distribution of combustion gas properties in primary combustion zone was calculated by the mixture ratio based on head injector arrangement, the properties of oxygen flowing in wall channels as coolant were applied under real-gas conditions, and multi-phase mixing model was employed to calculate the mixing process of primary combustion zone with liquid oxygen which was used for wall cooling. The results of numerical analysis were compared with the experimental results, hence thermo-physical properties in cooling channels and a combustor could be quantitatively identified.
Although overlapping resonances have been studied extensively in conventional resonance theories, there have not been many studies on them in multichannel quantum defect theories (MQDT). In MQDT, overlapping resonances occur between the channels instead of states, which pose far greater difficulty. Their systematic treatment was obtained for cases involving degenerate closed channels by applying our previous theory, which decouples background scattering from the resonance scattering in the MQDT formulation. The use of mathematical theory on con-diagonalization and con-similarity was essential for handling the non-Hermitian symmetric complex matrix. Overlapping resonances in rare gas spectra of Ar, Kr and Xe were analyzed using this theory and the results were compared with the ones of the previous alternative parameterizations of MQDT which make the open-open part $K^{oo}$ and closed-closed part $K^{cc}$ of reactance submatrices zero. The comparison revealed that separation of background and resonance scatterings achieved in our formulation in a systematic way was not achieved in the representation of $K^{oo}\;=\;0\;and\;K^{cc}$ = 0 when overlapping resonances are present.

The main objective of this work is to experimentally investigate the effect of angle variation on the distribution of two-phase flow at header-channel junctions. The cross-sections of the header and the channels were fixed at $16mm{\times}16mm$ and $12mm{\times}1.8mm$, respectively. Air and water were used as the test fluids. Four different header-channel positions were tested : Vertical header with Horizontal channels (case VM-HC), Horizontal header with Horizontal channels (case HM-HC), Horizontal header with Vertical Downward channels (case HM-VDC), and Horizontal header with Vertical Upward channels (case HM-VUC). In all cases, liquid flow distribution tended to decrease gradually in the upstream header region. However, in the downstream region, different trends could be seen. The reason for these different tendencies were identified by flow visualization in each case. The standard deviations for the liquid and gas flow distribution in each case were calculated, and the case of VM-HC had the lowest values compared to other cases because of the symmetrically distributed liquid film and strong flow recirculation near the end plate.
