The magnetic levitation system is utilized in the magnetic bearing of high-speed rotor because of little friction, no lubrication, no noise and so on. The magnetic levitation system need the feedback controller for the stabilization of system, and gap sensors are generally used to measure the gap. The use of sensor easily goes into troublesome caused by sensor failure discord between the measurement point and the control point etc. This paper presents the design of robust stabilizing contoller by $H_{\infty}$ control theory using the sensorless method proposed by authors in the magnetic levitation system. And we investigated both the validity of the designed controller and the usefulness of the sensorless magnetic levitation system through results of actual experiment.
Aerodynamically generated noise is significant when the train speed exceeds 250km/h. Experiments were performed in order to investigate the characteristics of aerodynamic noise sources generated from exterior of the HSR-350x, especially from the inter-coach spacing. Measurements of both the inside and outside of the cabin are carried out to investigate the characteristics of the noise. Effect of the size of the gap has been investigated through an wind tunnel test and it has been found that the low frequency noise is strongly dependent on the size of gap. Also performed is an array measurement to locate different noise sources from the high-speed train. Spectral characteristics of exterior noise sources have been examined through these experiments.

In order to understand dynamic characteristics of centrifugal compressor supported foil bearing, of which normal operating speed is about 20,000 ${\sim}$ 50,000 rpm, the rotor whirl is measured using gap sensors. Not only critical speeds of rotor system but also stability of rotor whirl, which are main concerns of the turbo compressor system, are measured using gap sensors by varying the rotating speed the rotor. The stiffness characteristics of bearing system is shown to be almost invariant according to speed variation by the measurement of eccentricity. In addition, from the directional power spectral density function of the measured vibration signal, the isotropy stiffness characteristics of foil bearing system is discussed.
Condition-based maintenance on wind turbines not only involves maintenance, but also encompasses servicing, inspection, measurement and evaluation of the condition of the unit. The current condition can be evaluated on the basis of machine-specific overall vibration values. Until now, overall vibration values had not been defined for wind turbines. In fact, ISO 10816-3 explicitly excludes wind power plants. The new VDI 3834 closes this gap shown in Sheet 1: Vibration values for wind turbines up to 3 MW. In addition to the new VDI 3834 is the ISO 10816-21 in preparation. The author of the article Dr. Edwin Becker is the nominated expert for Germany.

It is important to measure the rotational accuracy of NC lathe spindle as it affects to the qualities of all machines machined by the NC lathe using in industries. The bad rotational accuracy of NC lathe spindle are caused mainly by wearness of the spindle in using and quality of spindle when machining and using low level bearings. It occurs especially in case of NC lathes because the cutting force acting to work-piece act on one side to the spindle not to both sides symmetrically. Therefore in this study, constructing experimental appratus for measuring of rotational accuracy by using eddy current type gap sensors, converters, screw terminal, data acquisition board inserted in computer and software f3r data acquisition, DT VEE ver. 5.0 and then error data acquired in the rotational accuracy test of NC lathe spindle are analysed in plots and statistical treatments.

In metal cutting, the machining accuracy is more affected by thermal errors than by geometric errors. This paper models of the thermal errors for error analysis and develops on-the-machine measurement system by which the volumetric error are measured and compensated. The thermal error is modeled by means of angularity errors of a column and thermal drift error of the spindle unit which are measured by the touch probe unit with a star type styluses, a designed spherical ball artifact, and five gap sensors. In order to analyze the thermal characteristics under several operating conditions, experiments performed with the touch probe unit and five gap sensors on the vertical and horizontal machining centers.

This paper describes an automatic measurement method for the in-line inspection of assembly tolerances of cathod ray electron guns. The method uses an optical microscope with a CCD camera as a probe. An automatic gap recognition algorthm with digital image processing and a new software autofocus algorithm based on using an optimal edge detector have been developed to improve the measuring accuracy. An inspection system has been proposed and practically implemented for in-line inspection to a real factory automation line. The inspection system consists of a gap inspection part and an eyelet. Total time consumed for inspecting all measuring items is about 10 seconds and the repeatability is below .+-. 5 .mu. m

This paper presents a optimization design of 10[W] single phase BLDC motor applied Notch shape. Cogging Torque causes noise, vibration and torque ripple so notched stator is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a single phase BLDC motor needs applying aymmetric air-gap shape because this type motor cannot help having dead-point which is zero torque position. However, using asymmetric air-gap structure causes cogging torque increase. Therefore, this paper proposes the notch shape structure. Notch shape structure has some advantages; low cost, easy to apply. There are 4 optimal factors selected in optimization process, which are position and size of notches. Through building a prototype, the result of FE analysis and the experimental measurement value are compared each other and then vailidity and utility of simulation will be verified.

This paper presents performance investigation of a continuously variable ER(Electro-Rheological) damper for passenger vehicles. A dynamic model of the damper is formulated by incorporating electric field-dependent Bingham properties of the ER fluid. The Bingham properties are experimentally obtained through Couette type electroviscous measurement with respect to two different particle concentrations. The governing equation of the hydraulic model treating three components of fluid resistances;electrode duct flow, check valve flow and piston gap flow, is achieved via the bond graph method. A prototype ER damper is then designed and manufactured on the basis of parameter analysis. The damping forces of the system are experimentally evaluated by changing the intensity of the electric field, the particle concentration and the electrode gap.
In this paper, a new approach monitoring rotor vibrations in a squirrel-cage induction motor is proposed. The air-gap flux variation analysis was done using search coils inserted in stator slots when rotor vibration conditions occur. An accurate modelling and analysis of air-gap flux variation in the induction motor are developed using finite-element(FE) software packages, and measuring the flux are made using search coils. In the FE analysis, the three-phase squirrel-gage induction motor with 380 (V), 5 (HP), 4 Poles, 1,742 [rpm] ratings is used. The results of FE analysis can be useful for on-line vibration monitoring of the induction motors.
