Study of the Capsule Train Ride Comfort Improvement by using the Damping Control in Suspension System (현가장치 내 감쇠 제어를 이용한 캡슐트레인 승차감 향상 연구)

  • In this study, damping control devices were applied to the suspension system of a capsule train, and the effects were investigated to improve the ride comfort. The superconductor electrodynamic suspension (SC-EDS) method is used for the capsule train levitation. This method has advantages such as no gap control and a large gap. However, the SC-EDS method has disadvantages such as large gap variation and small damping characteristics against outer vibration, which causes degradation of the ride comfort. In this study, the damping control devices in the primary and secondary suspension were considered to improve the ride comfort in the capsule train. Damping control devices in the primary and secondary suspension can reduce the vibration transmission from outer disturbances to the bogie and from the bogie to the car body, respectively. Simulations for dynamic characteristics analyses were conducted based on the capsule train dynamic model to investigate the effects of the damping control devices on the ride comfort. As a result, it was confirmed that the ride comfort requirements according to the ISO standard can be satisfied by applying the damping control in the capsule train suspension.

  • 광자 (photon)를 이용하여 정보의 전달, 표시, 감지 그리고 저장이 가능한 다양한 형태의 소자들은 현재 그 주를 이루고 있는 전자 (electron)가 매개인 소자를 대체할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 활발히 연구되고 있다. 전자의 움직임은 재료 내에 주기적으로 배열되어 있는 원자나 분자의 결정구조에 의해 제어된다. 이는 전도밴드 (conduction band)와 원자가 밴드(valance band) 사이에 존재하는 전자 밴드갭 (electronic band gap)을 조절함으로써 가능하다. 이와 유사한 개념으로 광자의 움직임은 유전체의 주기적인 배열을 통해서 가능함이 제안되었다. 규칙적인 유전체의 결정구조를 가진 재료에 빛이 조사되었을 때, 그 재료를 통과하지 못하는 특정파장이 결정되며 이를 광자 밴드갭 (photonic band gap: PBG)이라 한다.   • We investigate the interaction between the propagation of detonation and inserted gaps in the high explosive. The Eulerian-based multi-material simulation code validated through comparison with experimental results was used. A series of gap materials is used to understand the detonation propagation characteristic in the presence of multiple gaps.

  • An electronic circuit device is developed such that the displacement between an electromagnet and a moving target can be estimated from the coil current measurement, and then applied to an active magnetic bearing system. In order to levitate the shaft without using displacement sensor the stable control gains are obtained from the linearized model which includes the gap estimation circuit. Experimental results show that the shaft, by the estimated gap feedback, can be levitated within $\pm$6 ${\mu}m$ positioning error.

  • When an induction motor is lightly loaded, the efficiency can be very substantially improved by controlling the air gap flux. Thus in the system which requires constant speed under either normal load or light load, it is possible to save energy by means of controlling the air gap flux. In this paper, the required relationships between stator current and rotor slip frequency for optimal efficiency control is derived and the improved control loop is suggested.

Experimental Study of the End-plate Gap Effect on the Performance of Extended End-plate Type Splice (이음면 이격이 확장형 단부판 이음부 성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • This study is experimental research for the effect of gap at the end plate on the performance of extended end-plate type splice. For this research, simple beam type specimens by using extended end-plate type splice are planned. Main variables are the initial gap between end-plates, the installation of finger shim plate before the installation of high tension bolts, the final gap between end-plates, and the installation of finger shim plate after the installation of high tension bolts. The static loading tests results show that the maximum bending strength of splice is not dependent on the gap, but the vertical displacement, initial stiffness and elastic stiffness are affected by the gap. In addition to that, the possibility of brittle fracture is increased when the torque of high tension bolt is used to control the gap. Thus, careful consideration is needed in this case.

A Numerical Study on Acoustic Damping Induced by Gap between Baffled Injectors in a Model Rocket Combustor (모형 로켓 연소실에서 배플형 분사기의 간극에 의한 음향 감쇠 효과에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Acoustic damping induced by gap width between baffled injectors is investigated numerically, which are installed to suppress pressure oscillations in a model rocket combustor. The previous work reported that the baffled injectors show larger acoustic damping with the gap width between injectors. It is simulated numerically and its mechanism is examined. Damping factors are calculated as a function of gap width and it is found that the optimum gap is 0.1 mm or so. For understanding of the improved damping induced by the gap, dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy and vorticity are calculated as a function of the gap. Both parameters have their maximum values at the specific gap and especially, the dissipation rate has the same profile as that of damping factor. It verifies that the improved damping made by the gap is attributed to the increased acoustic-energy dissipation.

  • A new steel-making process, strip-casting, is introduced. The strip-casting is a new technique making the thin steel strip from the molten steel directly without resorting to repetitive reheating and hot-rolling required in a conventional steel-making method. This paper derives the mathematical model of strip caster, proposes a control strategy for stable startup operation and a fuzzy decision making rule for automatic control mode change in strip-casting process.

Electrostatic suspension of glass plate

  • This paper reports about the successful suspension of a glass plate by electrostatic forces. In order to implement a stable suspension, the electrostatic forces exerted on the glass plate are actively controlled on the basis of the gap lengths between the glass plate and the stator electrodes. In this paper, the dynamic model of the suspension system and the influence of the resistivity of glass on the system stability are described, followed by stator electrode design, the experimental apparatus and a stabilizing controller. Experimental results show that the glass plate can be suspended at a gap length of about 0.3 mm. The influence of air humidity on the suspension initiation time, and the lateral dynamic characteristic are also described.

  • In recent years, much progress has been made in the automation of welding coped with a variety of highly flexible sensors. Among these sensors, only the eddy current sensor can detect the center location of the butt joint whose gap distance is zero. Thus, in this study the eddy current sensor is used to develop a robust and useful joint tracking system. The developed system is tested to qualify the performance of the system and seam tracking algorithm is proposed and two simulation are executed to show the performance of the proposed tracking algorithm.
