Analysis and Evaluation of the Distributed Control Braking System of Long Freight Car Brakes (장대화물열차의 분산제어 제동 시 연결기에 발생하는 충격력 해석 및 분석)

  • In long freight trains, there is a brake time delay in neighboring freight cars, which causes damage and fractures in the couplers, especially at their knuckle. A problem in the couplers of the cars can cause derailment and damages of human life and property. In this study, maximum forces on the couplers are studied when a long freight car brakes with the brake delay time and coupler gap. We make a dynamic model of 50 freight cars and couplers, applying contact between the couplers and a characteristic curve to express the force and displacement of the buffers using SIMPACK, which is a multi-body dynamics program. We use EN 14531-2, which is a standard of freight car brakes, to verify the dynamic model. Then, we compare the analyzed impact force with the coupler knuckle standard after applying the two carriages of a locomotive in the model based on the dispersed double head control system. The result shows that all coupler gap conditions satisfy the infinite lifetime of the material when the brake delay time is 0.1 second.

Square Wave Voltage Injection Starting Method of SP-PMSM Considering Nonlinearity of Full-bridge Inverter (풀 브릿지 인버터의 비선형성을 고려한 단상 영구자석 동기 전동기의 구형파 전압 주입 기동 기법)

  • The purpose of this paper was to propose a method for improving the performance of the open-loop control of single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (SP-PMSM), based on a square wave voltage injection. Generally, the SP-PMSM driving systems cmprise a full-bridge inverter and asymmetric air-gap structure of magnetic circuit, because a zero torque occurs on the symmetrical air-gap. As a result, it cannot be started at a specific rotor position. Thus, it is possible to cause the start-up failure at an open-loop control for sensorless operation of SP-PMSM. In this paper, the method with square wave voltage injection considering the nonlinearity of the inverter is presented to resolve the problem. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through several experiments.

  • Through Korean Urban Maglev Program started in 2006, an urban maglev train was developed and the demonstration line is under construction as of now in 2011. The target speed of the developed maglev train is 110km/h, and the core technologies for super speed maglev trains over 500km/h are being studied. The propulsion and levitation systems of the super speed maglev train under consideration consist of linear synchronous motors (LSM) and levitation electromagnets which also act as a mover of LSM. In addition, guidance electromagnets are used to ensure stable running on curved tracks during super speed operation. The levitation and guidance control is focused on in this paper. For experimental purpose, a small maglev train is being manufactured, and its levitation and guidance controller is studied. The main task of the controller is to maintain the gap between the corresponding electromagnet and the guideway constantly. In general, measurements of the gap, acceleration and current and so on are utilized, and the gap control is implemented independently for each electromagnet. In this paper, the levitation and guidance system is modelled considering mechanical interactions, and the levitation and guidance controller is proposed based on this model. The developed controller is verified by various simulations using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • The conventional optics and near field optics are compared numerically in the view points of the spot size and propagation characteristics. The decaying characteristics of near field light require the optics to access the object within several tens of nanometers. Therefore the gap control is one of the main issues in the near field optics area. In this paper the gap control is done by using the shear force of the NF(Near Field) probe and the characteristics are examined. The probe is modeled as a 2'nd order mass-spring-damper system driven by a harmonic force. The primary cause of the decrease in vibration amplitude is due to the damping force - shear force - between the surface and the probe. Using the model, damping constant and resonance frequency of the probe is calculated as a function of probe-sample distance. Detecting the amplitude and phase shift of the NF probe attached to the high Q-factor piezoelectric tuning fork, we can control the position of the NF probe about 0 to 50nm above the sample. The feedback signal to regulate the probe-sample distance can be used independently for surface topography imaging. 3-D view of the shear force image of a testing sample with the period of $1{\mu}m$ will be shown.

Base Critical Gaps and Follow-Up Times by Traffic Movements for Four-Legged Unsignalized Intersections in Suburban of Seoul, Korea (수도권 지역 4-지 비신호 교차로에 대한 이동류별 차량의 임계간격과 추종시간 기준에 관한 연구)

  • 우리나라 비신호 교차로의 운영방법은 미국과는 다르게 대부분 완전 비제어식 운영(Totally Uncontrol)방법으로 되어있다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라 비신호 교차로들 중 미국 HCM의 TWSC 교차로에 관한 분석방법이 적용 가능하다고 판단되는 비신호 교차로들을 대상으로 임계간격과 추종시간의 기준을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 수도권을 중심으로 총 11개의 4-지 비신호 교차로들을 대상으로 이동류별, 차량의 종류별에 따른 차량들의 임계간격과 추종시간을 조사 및 분석하였다. 그 결과 임계간격은 3.8초 - 5.4 초로 나타났으며, 추종시간은 2.4초- 2.7초 범위를 나타내었다. 또한, 임계간격의 경우 차량의 종류별에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았으나, 이동류별로는 차이를 나타내었다. 이에 반하여, 추종시간은 이동류별에 따른 차이가 없으며, 차량의 종류별에 따라 차이가 존재하는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구의 분석 결과인 임계간격과 추종시간의 기준치를 국외 나라들의 연구결과와 비교 분석한 결과는 국외보다 낮게 분석되었으며, 이는 우리나라와 국외의 운전자 운전특성과 비신호 교차로의 운영방식의 차이에서 나타난 결과로 판단된다. 본 연구에서 제안한 임계간격과 추종시간의 기준은 수도권 지역의 4-지 비신호 교차로들 중 주도로와 부도로의 교통량과 속도 등의 현저한 차이가 있는 교차로 분석시 이 기준으로 적용할 수 있고, 우리 나라의 TWSC 방법을 갖는 비신호 교차로에 관한 용량과 지체시간의 이론적 모형 개발과 용량 및 지체시간의 분석을 위한 기초 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force.   • 현재 투명전극(Transparent Conductive Oxide: TCO)은 평판 디스플레이, 태양전지, 터치패널, 투명 트렌지스터의 전극 등 여러 분야에서 연구되어지고 있으며, 주로 IT 산업의 핵심재료로 ITO (Indium Tin Oxide)가 사용되고 있다. ITO 박막은 주로 스퍼터 공정을 통해 제작이 되며, 전기전도도가 우수하며 높은 Optical Band Gap을 가지고 있어 투명전극으로 많이 사용되고 연구되어지고 있다. 산화물 박막을 증착할 때 산소유량에 따라 박막의 물성이 변하거나 박막의 특성이 저하되는 현상 등을 가지고 있어 공정시 산소유량이 중요한 변수로 작용하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 증착 공정 중 발생하는 플라즈마의 방출광을 가지고 산소의 대표적인 파장의 방출광을 관찰하여 방출광이 변화함에 따라 실시간으로 산소가스유량이 제어됨을 확인하였으며, 또한 산소유량제어를 통해 생성된 박막의 전기적 특성 및 광학적 특성 등 박막의 물성을 비교하였다.

  • This paper deals with the design and implementation of an open architecture CNC system for Wire-EDM, with a consideration of the difference between Wire-EDM and NC cutting machines. Recent open architecture controller(OAC) related research results could be applied to directly access Wire-EDM systems at the CNC level. However, previous research about OAC is mostly aimed at NC cutting machines such as milling or lathes, and hence these results are inadequate to apply to Wire-EDM. To close the gap between previous general research on OAC and Wire-EDM specific needs, an open architecture NC model for Wire-EDM composed of a synchronization kernel and a NC functional module is proposed. Based on the control information flow and Wire-EDM specific machining process, the conceptual CNC model and the detailed implementation model for Wire-EDM is suggested.

State Feedback $H^{\infty}$ Controller Design for Linear Systems with Time-delays (시간지연을 가지는 선형 시스템에 대한 상태궤환 $H^{\infty}$제어기 설계)

  • This paper presents a state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controller design method for linear systems with delayed states and inputs. We derive a sufficient condition that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable for all time-delays and that the $H^{\infty}$-norm of the closed-loop transfer function is less than or equal to some prescribed level $\gamma$. And we propose a sufficient condition for the existence of a state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controller using a form of linear matrix inequality(LMI). Furthermore, we show that the state feedback $H^{\infty}$ controllers can be obtained from solutions satisfying LMI.

  • This paper presents a method for designing fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers of nonlinear systems with time varying delay. Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is employed to represent nonlinear systems with time varying delay. Using a single quadratic Lyapunov function, the globally exponential stability and $H_2/H_{\infty}$ performance problem are discussed. A sufficient condition for the existence of fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers is then presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMls). The proposed fuzzy $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controllers minimizes the upper bound on the linear quadratic performance measure.
