진단용 무선 감마선 프로브 개발 및 유용성 평가 (Development of a Wireless Gamma-ray Probe for Diagnosing and Evaluation of its Effectiveness)

  • 연구에서는 진단 및 수술 후 잔여병소의 검출을 위하여 방사선계수 방식의 무선 감마선 프로브를 개발하고, 교정선원과 팬텀을 이용하여 그 유용성을 평가 하였다. 반도체기반 방사선센서를 사용하여 프로브 설계 및 소형화 하였으며, 블루투스 원격통신 모듈을 사용하여 진단 및 검출 시스템의 무선화를 구현하였다. 또한 진단 및 수술 시 환부의 모니터링이 가능한 원격모니터링 시스템을 구현하였다. 개발된 프로브의 유용성 평가를 위해 교정선원 $^{57}Co$, $^{133}Ba$, $^{22}Na$, $^{137}Cs$과 닭 가슴살 팬텀을 사용하였다. 평가를 통해 감마선에 대한 프로브의 검출 반응성을 확인하였고, 감마선 세기에 따른 응답 선형성과 검출 방향성, 팬텀 내 선원 깊이에 따른 프로브의 검출효율을 평가를 통해 실증적인 임상에서의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다.

감마선 분포 측정을 위한 섬광필름 기반의 감마 영상 검출기 제작 및 성능평가 (Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of a Scintillating Film-based Gamma Imaging Detector to Measure Gamma-ray Distribution)

  • As a feasibility study on development of a gamma imaging probe, we developed a scintillating film-based gamma imaging detector that can obtain scintillation images with information of gamma-ray distribution. The scintillating film-based gamma imaging detector was composed of a sensing probe, an image intensifier, and a beam profiler. To detect and transmit scintillation image, the sensing probe was fabricated by coupling a scintillating film, a fiber-optic image conduit, and a fiber-optic taper, consecutively. First, the optical images of USAF 1951 resolution target were obtained and then, modulation transfer function values were calculated to test the image quality of the sensing probe. Second, we measured the scintillation images according to the activity of the 137Cs and the distance between the surface of 137Cs and the distal-end of sensing probe. Finally, the intensities of scintillating light as functions of the activity and the distance were evaluated from the region of interest in the scintillation image. From the results of this study, it is expected that a fiber-optic gamma imaging detector can be developed to detect gamma-rays emitted from radiopharmaceuticals during radioimmunoguided surgery.

  • A fiber-optic radiation sensor was fabricated using a sensing probe, a plastic optical fiber, a photomultiplier tube, and a multichannel analyzer for gamma-ray spectroscopy. As an inorganic scintillator of the sensing probe, a LYSO crystal was used. In this study, we obtained the relationship between the photon counts of the fiber-optic radiation sensor and the activity of the radioactive isotope. In addition, the gamma-ray energy spectra were also measured using a fiber-optic radiation sensor to discriminate species of gamma-ray emitters.

  • A fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector system with two types of sensing probes was fabricated to detect the beta- and gamma-rays simultaneously. As scintillators of the sensing probe type 1, two different inorganic scintillators, $CaF_2(Eu)$ and LYSO(Ce) crystals, were used to obtain the each scintillating efficiency with respect to beta-and gamma-rays and the inherent energy spectra of radioactive isotopes. In the case of the sensing probe type 2, which is composed of two identical inorganic scintillators and a beta shielding material based on the lead, it could discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using a subtraction method. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector could measure and discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using both energy spectroscopy and subtraction method.

  • The gamma-gamma logging method appplying in geophysical research are presented in this paper_ The logging probe assembly was designed which permits changing the source-to-detector spacing while conditions of proceeding ${\gamma}-{\gamma}$ logging, which a collimated gamma ray source ($^{60}Co$, 0.5mCi and/or 2 mCi) is separated from the scintillation detector as shown in Fig. 2 and 3, size is 6.0 cm in diameter and 120.0 cm in long and the exposed parts are made of stainless steel pipe. The results is confirmed by the experiment performed mainly in granite rock where a slightly constant shape was obtained but sometimes was shown sharpness shape for the measured scattered gamma-ray intensity. Consequently, the experimental results are obtained an adequate intensity of scattered gamma-rays and favourable response to density change, and also very closely correspond to between core samples of the test boring and to used this method of ${\gamma}-{\gamma}$ logging in the test bore-hole of the strata.

Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) for early photon measurements from Gamma Ray Bursts

  • We describe the space project of Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO), which will observe early optical photons from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with a sub-second optical response, for the first time. The UFFO will probe the early optical rise of GRBs, opening a completely new frontier in GRB and transient studies, using a fast-response rotatable mirror system which redirects opitical path to telescope instead of slewing of telescopes or spacecraft. In our small UFFO-Pathfinder experiment, scheduled to launch aboard the Lomonosov satellite in June 2012, we use a motorized mirror in our Slewing Mirror Telescope instrument to achieve less than one second optical response after X-ray trigger. We describe the science and the mission of the UFFO project, including a serious version called UFFO-100 which will be launched in 2014. With our program of ultra-fast optical response GRB observatories, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of GRB mechanisms, and potentially open up the z>10 universe to study via GRB as point source emission probes.

휴대용 감마선파이프측후도의 설계와 시작 (Design and Experiment on the Portable Gamma-Ray Pipe Thickness Gauge)

  • 감마선 후방산란을 이용한 철관 두께 측정용 측후계의 설계의 있어서 1/2인치 이하의 얇은 NaI 크리스털을 사용함으로써 계측부에 있어서 1개의 파고선별회로와 Anti-coincidence Circuit를 제거할 수 있다. 이 방식은 종래의 방식에 비하여 훨씬 회로가 경제적이면서도 거의 비슷한 정밀도와 안정도를 유지할 수 있다. 본논문에서는 위와 같은 새로운 방식에 의하여 설계, 시작된 측정기로서 지금까지 타연구자에 의하여 시도되지 않았던 200℃의 고온파이프의 관순측정실험을 행하였던바 상온에서의 측정치보다 불과 5%이내의 변화밖에 가져오지 않음을 실험적으로 확인하였다.

감마선 빽스켓터링을 이용한 철판 두께 측정에 관하여 (Steel Plate Thickness Gauge by means of Gamma-Ray Backscattering)

  • 동철종으로 부터 후방 산란되는 감마선을 측정하므로써 그의 두께를 수정할 수 있는 두께계의 실용성에 관하여 실험적인 검토를 하였다. 본 두께계의 특징은 선원으로부터 반사되는 1 차방사선과 철판으로 부터 후방 산란되는 2차 방사선을 적시에 동일한 씬티레이숀 검출기로 검출하며 사용되는 선원의 방사선 강도도 20μc 정도로 적으므로 일절의 방사선 차폐물이 불필요하므로 가반형 두께계로서 적당하다. 씬티레이숀 검출기로 부터의 출력 펄스는 프리암프, 메인암프, 및 단채널 파고분석기를 거쳐 후방 산란 감마선만을 선별한 다음 계수률계상에서 두께로 직독하도록 할 수 있다. 광판의 두께 변화에 대한 지시감도를 크게 하기 위한 선원의 위치 파고분석기의 window width, 사용될 선원의 에너지와 강도등의 최적치를 구하기 위한 실험을 행하였다. 이 두께계로서 강철판 또는 파이프의 내벽상의 작은 흠이나 부식처를 용이하게 발견할 수 있다. 실측결과 3∼8mm 두께 범위에서 약 ±3%의 정밀도를 얻었고 20mm 두께에서는 약 ±10%로 저하되었다.

Phase Change Characteristics of Sb-Based Phase Change Materials

  • Electrical optical switching and structural transformation of $Ge_{15}Sb_{85}$, $Sb_{65}Se_{35}$ and N2.0 sccm doped $Sb_{83}Si_{17}$ were studied to investigate the phase change characteristics for PRAM application. Sb-based materials were deposited by a RF magnetron co-sputtering system and the phase change characteristics were analyzed using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a static tester and a four-point probe. Doping Ge, Se or Si atoms reinforced the amorphous stability of the Sb-based materials, which affected the switching characteristics. The crystallization temperature of the Sb-based materials increased as the concentration of the Ge, Se or Si increased. The minimum time of $Ge_{15}Sb_{85}$, $Sb_{65}Se_{35}$ and N2.0 sccm doped $Sb_{83}Si_{17}$ for crystallization was 120, 50 and 90 ns at 12 mW, respectively. $Sb_{65}Se_{35}$ was crystallized at $170^{\circ}C$. In addition, the difference in the sheet resistances between amorphous and crystalline states was higher than $10^4{\Omega}/{\gamma}$.
