  • Objective: This case report describes the treatment of hemoptysis in a bronchiectasis patient with Hyunggaeyungyo-tang plus Gamijihwang-tang. Methods: The hemoptysis in this patient was suspected to result from bronchiectasis, which was diagnosed with a chest CT at another hospital. She was treated with a herbal medicine, Hyunggaeyungyo-tang, plus Gamijihwang-tang. The effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated by measuring the amount of hemoptysis and by a visual analogue scale (VAS) to determine the patient's quality of life. Results: After administration of Hyunggaeyungyo-tang plus Gamijihwang-tang, the severity of hemoptysis decreased, based on the amount of hemoptysis and the VAS scores. Conclusions: Hyunggaeyungyo-tang plus Gamijihwang-tang is a potent therapeutic agent for the treatment of hemoptysis.

  • Objective : Gamijihwang-tang(GJT) has been used as a therapeutic agent for hyperlipidemia in oriental medicine for several years. This study was performed to investigate the effects of GJT on hyperlipidemia in rats using diverse biological methods. Method : Hyperlipidemia was induced by a hyper-lipidemic diet fed for 4 weeks. Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, and glucose were measured in the serum after an oral administration of GJT. Lipid peroxidase, SOD, catalase, ACAT, and HMG-CoA were measured in liver after oral administration of GJT. Result: 1. GJT showed safety against cytotoxicity and toxicity in liver. 2. GJT significantly decreased rat's body and liver weight. 3. GJT significantly decreased serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, but increased serum HDL-cholesterol. 4. GJT significantly decreased serum triglyceride and glucose. 5. GJT significantly decreased lipid peroxidation and increased SOD and catalase in liver. 6. GJT significantly decreased ACAT and HMG-CoA reductase of cholesterol manifestation in liver. Conclusions : These results suggest that GJT might be effective in treatment and prevention of hyperlipidemia.

  • Asthma is recognized today as an inflammatory disease of the lung characterized by acute non-specific airway hypersensitiveness in association with chronic pulmonary inflammation. Gamijihwang-tang(GJT), a fortified prescription of YMJHT, is applied for the treatments of chronic coughing and asthma, and post-delivery coughing and asthma in the gynecology. Also in the clinical practice, GJT is known to be very effective for controlling coughing and asthma as a cold sequoia. In this study, we investigated the effects of GJT on the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) production, and on the level of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and Cyclooxygenase-2 expression in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. We found that GJT inhibited LPS-induced NO and $PGE_2$ production in a dose dependent manner. Furthermore, GJT inhibited the expression of LPS-induced iNOS and COX-2 protein and mRNA expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Treatment with GJT of RAW 264.7 cells transfected with a reporter construct indicated a reduced level of LPS-induced nuclear factor-KB (NF-kB) activity and effectively lowered NF-kB binding as measured by transient transfection assay. These results suggest that the main inhibitory mechanism of the GJT may be the reduction of iNOS and COX-2 gene expression through blocking of NF-kB activation.

  • 1. Objectives Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst is a common disease in gynecologist. These disease can also be treated by Sasang constitutional medical diagnosis and treatment. 2. Methods In treatment of the patient who has Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst, we had diagnosed her as soyangin by their own characters and prescribed Gamijihwang-tang(加味地黃湯). 3. Results The scale of Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst reduced and the occured syndrome with that disease was diasppeared 4. Conclusions In conclusion, this paper shows that the treatment and healing process of Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst.

  • Vesicoureteral reflux(VUR) is a state that urine regurge from bladder to ureter and kidney because of congenital, structural, functional abnormality of ureterovesical junction and lower urinary tract than bladder. It may be the primary cause of recurrent urinary tract infection(UTI) in chindhood, If urine regurge with UTI, it can cause renal damage, leading to scar formation, hypertension, chronic renal failure, But upper complications can be prevented by early diagnosis and proper treatment of VUR and UTI, so clinician must focus on them in treatment of VUR. We had experienced a case of recurrent UTI with VUR regardless of consistent antibiotics therapy in 7 years old boy, Chief complain was urinary frequency, The symptom of urinary frequency was successfully treated by herb medicine(Gamijihwag-tang), So, we report this case with a brief review of related literatures.
