  • This paper proposes a novel method for Game character classification based on texture and edge orientation feature. The character dose not move(NPC) and move the character is classified. Classification of property within the character of straight line segments are used to extract features. First, the character inside edge feature extraction and then calculates EEDH, SSPD. The extracted attribute represents the energy of a particular direction. Thus, these properties were used to classify of NPC and Monster. The proposed method, the user can reduce the unnecessary time in the game.

  • The MFC makes the region in the player object center and it judges a relation the object. But it searches the objects which are not relation to game. Consequently, it decreases the speed of game and it recognizes a dangerous characteristic. In this paper, in order to complement a weak point, it applied the avoidance rule of the flocking in npc object. Consequently, the npc object has the concept of range of vision and proposed the method which is possibility of closing the speed decrease of game. This time 2 condition which is proposed must be satisfactory. The method that proposed will play an important role in development of a 3D FPS games.

  • The non-player character(NPC) either cooperates with the player character to proceed the game or fight against the game player. This paper proposes the context awareness method for the natural action control of the same NPC. The context awareness method analyzes the context information of the NPC that can be utilized in the current status and creates the actions which suit the current context automatically. The context awareness method analyzes the information value of the context elements of the NPC which occur in the current context and creates natural actions of the character by utilizing the analyzed context element information. In this experiment, average performance improved by 39% and by 8% in the context awareness method as compared to the rule-based method and information gain method, respectively.

NPC(None-Player Character) A.I

  • The maps in the world of the role playing games provide not only areas for motions and actions of player characters, but also worlds of totally included monsters and NPC(Non Player Character). However, the design of maps and monsters in them could not be tested for their balances until the games had been developed quite a bit. So they need additional expense of extension period of developments. In this paper, we have designed and developed a map simulator to expect the popularities of the maps in the early stage of the game planning in order to prevent inefficient concentration of users on some maps by expecting the popularities of the maps in the early stage of game planning and by setting the parameters of monster arrangements in the map.

  • The artificial intelligence (AI) of Non-Player Companions (NPC), especially opponents, is a key element to adjust the level of games in game design. Smart opponents can make games more challenging as well as allow players for diverse experiences, even in the same game environment. Since game users interact with more than one opponent in most of today's games, collaboration control of opponent characters becomes more important than ever before. In this paper, we introduce a cooperative strategy based on the A* algorithm for enemies' AI in the Pac-Man game. A survey from 17 human testers shows that the levels with our collaborative opponents are more difficult but interesting than those with either the original Pac-Man's personalities or the non-cooperative greedy opponents.

  • In this research, Affective computing game has been developed which reacts with a player's bio-signals. A modified computer mouse will be used to collect bio-signals by GSR, FSR, and infrared thermometer. This modified computer mouse collect human bio-signals in non-intrusive way. The collected data is complementary reflected in 3 level of tension of a player. The player's tension affects on the game and the reaction for NPC will be followed. Then this leads to plot changes individually. To let diverse NPC reaction and interactive story telling, Live 2d and Inkle Script have been used. This research can be alternative method on the game development using Affective computing.

  • In order to move NPC's to target location at game maps, various algorithm including A* has been used. The most frequently used algorithm among them is A* with fast finding speed. But A* has the following problems. The first problem is that at randomly changing map, it is necessary to calculate all things again whenever there are any changes. And when calculation is wrong, it is not possible to search for target. The second problem is that it is difficult to move avoiding dangerous locations damaging NPC such as an obstruction. Although it is possible to avoid moving to locations with high weight by giving weight to dangerous factors. it is difficult to control in case NPC moves nearby dangerous factors. In order to solve such problems, in this thesis, the researcher applied Dynamic Programming to path-finding algorithm. As the result of its application, the researcher could confirm that the programming was suitable for changes at the map with random change and NPC's avoided the factors being dangerous to them far away. In addition. when compared to A*, there were good results.
