A 3 years-old male Tosa dog was referred to Seoul National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with a history of difficulty in mastication. Clinical signs of dropped jaw, drooling, mild depression and dehydration were observed. According to history taking, physical examination, neurologic examination, complete blood count (CBC), serum chemical profile and radiography, the dog was diagnosed as idiopathic trigeminal nerve paralysis. Electroacupuncture treatment was applied to the dog on local and distal point at an interval of 7 days. Local points were GB-1 (Tong Zi Liao) of gall bladder meridian and ST-7 (Xia Guan) of stomach meridian. Distal points were PC-4 (Xi Men), PC-6 (Nei Guan) of pericardium meridian. Electrical stimulus was performed for 20 minutes at the frequency of 3 Hz, 3 Volts on ST-7. Ten days after the initial electroacupuncture treatment, clinical signs related to trigeminal nerve paralysis were almost disappeared.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to find the desirable way for the acupuncture treatment of breast cancer. Methods : We reviewed several literatures about breast cancer. Based on the review, we analyzed the causes of breast cancer through meridian theory of oriental medicine and looked for the desirable ways to treat it. Results and Conclusions : The breast cancer results from the unbalance between reverting yin and lesser yang. Especially, exasperation of PC(pericardium meridian) seems to paly an important role, and accordingly, it is needed to activate GB(gall bladder meridian). Also, enhancing the function of HT(heart meridian) should be considered for the acupuncture treatment of breast cancer.

Deficiency symptom-complex is related to psychotic disease and important concept of Pal Gang(八綱) in oriental Diagnosis. This investigation was carried out to see the effect of disease of deficiency Symptom-Complex upon Symptoms Checklist-90-Revision. The following results were obtained ; 1. Deficiency Symptom-Complex was related to psychoses in the bibliographic study. 2. Dimension #1, #2, #4, #5, #7, #9, were significantly recognized in the deficiency Symptom-Complex. 3. Dimension #1 was significantly recognized in the back pain. 4. Dimension #1 was related to the deficiency of spleen(脾虛). 5. It is suggested that dimension #2, #3, #7, related with phobia were connected with the deficiency of liver, and gall bladder(肝膽虛). Considering the above results, it is thought that deficiency Symptom-Complex was related to psychotic disease, investigation about deficiency Symptom-Complex of viscera &bowels(臟腑虛證) and Symptoms Checklist-90-Revision should be continued.

The 'Half outside and half inside(半表半裏)' is the part which is located between outside and inside, and it is regarded as the nickname of ShaoYang(少陽) in Sanhanlun(傷寒論). About the meaning of 'Half outside and half inside', many medical scientists agreed that the 'outside' is 'TaiYang(太陽)', but they didn't agreed the meaning of 'inside'. One group insisted the 'inside' is 'YangMing (陽明)', the other group instisted that 'TaiYin(太陰)'. To know which opinion is correct, I analyed the Kwigyung(歸經) of herbs in Soshihotang(小柴胡湯) which has a close relationship with ShaoYang, and it is proved that the Kwigyung of herbs is the Foot ShaoYang-GALL BLADDER Meridian(足少陽膽經), Hand TaiYin-LUNG Meridian(手太陰肺經), and Foot TaiYin-SPLEEN Meridian(足太陰脾經). So I concluded that the 'inside' is not 'YangMing' but 'TaiYin'.

We treated a 53 year-old male patient. He had alcoholic liver cirrhosis and diabetes. The main symptoms were fatigue, ascites, edema, anorexia, indigestion, constipation, and abdominal pain. We diagnosed him as 'the retention of pathogenic damp-heat in the liver and gall bladder’ and adminstered Saenggangeonbi-tang three times a day. We observed clinical symptoms, liver function test(AST, ALT, ${\gamma}-GT$, ALP, total bilirubin), nutritional state(total protein, albumin) and capillary blood glucose. After treatment, all the main symptoms disappeared and the patient's nutritional state has improved. Child's grade using the improvement index in liver cirrhosis has changed from B to A. Although the very mechanism of Saenggangeonbi-tang was not proven, we could suggest that Saenggangeonbi-tang is not toxic to the liver and has a good effect on alcoholic liver cirrhosis with diabetes mellitus.

A new myxosporean species Ceratomyxa oplegnathus n. sp. was found from the gallbladder of cultured rock bream, Oplegnathus fasciatus. Mature spores were 44.14 ± 2.41 (39.04-48.41) ㎛ in length, 8.52 ± 0.36 (7.9-9.26) ㎛ in width in sutural view. Spores contained two spherical polar capsules measuring 3.04 ± 0.2 (2.71-3.37) ㎛ in diameter and a binucleated sporoplasm. Each polar capsule had a 5-6 coiled polar filament, and was situated near the sutural line. In ultrastructural observation, asynchronous divisions of generative cells without pansporoblast formation gave arise to 2 spores within a trophozoite. Sporoplasmic cell in the sporoblast was binucleated, and capsulogenic cells had large amounts of rough endoplasmic reticulum, external tubules, and capsular primordia.

A total of 77 Black Bengal goats (67 females and 10 males) of 3.5 to 5.0 years old between 18 and 20 kg liveweights were used in this study. The whole liver with gall-bladder from respective carcass was collected at slaughter following fecal and postmortem examinations. Tissue sections of all lobes of each liver were prepared and stained with hematoxylin and eosin following a standard procedure. Results confirmed the presence of flukes surrounded by fibrous capsule in the liver. All the animals were suffering from chronic Fasciola gigantica infections. The blood vessels in most of the liver tissue were thickened due to proliferation of fibrous tissue around them. Focal infiltration of lymphocytes in the lobules, patches of focal accumulation of neutrophils and eosinophils were found in all the liver tissue. Proliferations of new bile ductules in the hepatic trinity around the bile ducts that were clogged by the flukes were also observed in most tissue sections.

Although most of flutter of palpebranum (part of Tourette's disorder) was though to be functional and psychogenic emotional disorder, author has understood that it was organic disease due to abnormal interaction of Heart Gall bladder according to many clinical experience. The confirmation was accomplished by four examinations, pulse, meridian and it was supplemented by ECG because it was surely to correlate with the wave of ECG. The treatment was done medically by prescirbing mainly O pe san, samsoyeum, zagumhuan and good result was obtained.

A ten-year-old dog was presented with pancreatitis and increased hepatic enzymes. On necropsy a large firm mass was observed in the liver extending to the gall bladder. Smaller masses with similar texture were found in multiple organs including lung, stomach, pancreas, lymph nodes, omentum, and mesentery. Neoplastic cells were spindle shaped with prominent osteoid production and occasional trabeculae of woven bone. Tumor cell emboli were observed in the blood vessels and lymphatics of the omentum and stomach. Hepatic osteosarcoma with systemic metastasis is very rare and may serve to broaden the diagnostic spectrum of hepatic and pancreatic diseases in dogs.

Aeromonas hydrophilia infection was diagnosed in captive Jackass penguins (Spheniscus demersus). Seven Jackass penguins showed clinical signs including depression and anorexia with greenish vomiting, but four penguins were died although extensive treatment was carried out. At necropsy, the penguins appeared to have hemorrhage and catarrhal inflammation of the small and large intestines and severe enlargement of the right hepatic lobe, elongation of the gall bladder and pyloric ulceration of the stomach. The ovaries observed atrophy and congestion. Microscopically, there were congestion, fat droplet within the cytoplasm of the hepatic cell, infiltration of lymphocytes in the stomach, vilous detachment and destroyed glandular epithelium in the small and large intestines. Aeromonas hydrophilia was isolated from the liver and small intestines. This case is the first report of an occurrence of Aeromonas hydrophilia infection at Jackass penguins in Korea.
