Ensiled or Oven-dried Green Tea By-product as Protein Feedstuffs: Effects of Tannin on Nutritive Value in Goats

  • Ensiled or oven-dried green tea by-products (GTB) were evaluated in goats for their nutritive potential as protein feedstuffs based on in vitro and in vivo digestibility. To elucidate the effects of tea tannin on in vitro digestibility, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as a tannin binding agent. Both ensiled and dried GTB contained 31.9 to 32.6% of crude protein (CP) on a dry matter (DM) basis. Phenolics and tannins in soybean meal and alfalfa hay were low or not detected, but they were high in both ensiled and dried GTB (7.3-10.1% DM as total extractable tannins). In vitro protein digestibility in the rumen ranked: soybean meal>alfalfa hay cube>ensiled GTB = dried GTB. The protein digestibility post-ruminally of these feedstuffs showed a similar trend to that in the rumen, but the digestibility of ensiled GTB was significantly higher than that of dried GTB. Addition of PEG improved the in vitro protein digestibility of both kinds of GTB in the rumen and post-ruminally, indicating that tannins suppressed the potential protein digestibility of GTB. The increased protein digestibility by PEG addition was not significantly different between ensiled and dried GTB in the rumen, but the percentage increment of ensiled GTB was higher than dried GTB post-ruminally. In the in vivo digestibility trial, ensiled and dried GTB were offered to goats as partial substitutes for soybean meal and alfalfa hay cubes. Offering both GTB to goats as 5-10% on a DM basis did not affect nutrient digestibility, ruminal pH, volatile fatty acids, and ammonia concentration. However, the eating time of the GTB-incorporated diet was longer than that of the basal diet. It took 1.4 and 1.6 times longer than the control diet, to eat the diet completely when GTB silage was offered at 5 and 10% levels, respectively, of the total diet. These results show that ensiled and dried GTB are useful as partial substitutes for soybean meal and alfalfa hay cubes for goats with respect to nutritive value. Because of lessened palatability, it is recommended that GTB be incorporated into the diet at 5% on a DM basis.

Effect of Green Tea By-product on Performance and Body Composition in Broiler Chicks

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the optimum level of green tea by-product (GTB) in diets without antibiotics and to evaluate its effect on broiler performances. A total of 140 Ross broilers were kept in battery cages for a period of 6 weeks. Dietary treatments used in this experiment were antibiotic free group (basal diet as a control), antibiotic added group (basal+0.05% chlortetracycline), GTB 0.5% (basal+GTB 0.5%), GTB 1% (basal+GTB 1%) and GTB 2% (basal+GTB 2%). Antibiotic added group showed significantly higher body weight gain than other treatments (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed in feed intake and feed efficiency among treatments (p>0.05). The addition of green tea by-product to diets tended to decrease blood LDL cholesterol content compared to control group although there were no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05). Addition of green tea by-product increased docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in blood plasma and tended to decrease cholesterol content in chicken meat, but a significant difference was not observed (p>0.05). The values of TBA in chicken meat decreased in groups fed diets with green tea-by product and antibiotics compared to control group (p<0.05). The crude protein content in chicken meat was decreased slightly in treatments with green tea by-product and antibiotics supplementation. The abdominal fat was increased in chickens fed with diets with green tea by-product compared to the control (p<0.05).

남은 음식물과 녹차 부산물이 산란계의 산란성적과 계란품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dried Leftover Food and Green Tea By-Product on Performance and Egg Quality in Laying Hens)

  • 본 연구는 산란계에서 남은 음식물과 녹차 부산물이 산란계의 산란성적과 계란품질에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 공시동물은 50주령 Tetran Brown종 산란계 210수를 7처리 5반복 (반복당 6수)으로 임의 배치하였다. 시험설계는 대조구와 옥수수 곡류와 대두박을 대용한 건조된 남은음식물 10, 20, 30 및 40% 첨가구 (10% DLF, 20% DLF, 30% DLF 및 40% DLF)와 1.0%의 녹차 부산물 첨가구 (1.0% GTB)와 30% DLF와 1.0% GTB를 첨가한 혼합 첨가구를 두어 사양실험을 8주 동안 실시하였다. 산란율은 대조구에 비하여 10, 20 및 40% DLF 처리구에서 유의적으로 증가하였다 (P<0.05). 난중은 대조구에 비하여 10% DLF 처리구에서 유의적으로 감소하였다 (P<0.05). 사료 섭취량은 대조구보다 20% DLF 처리구와 30% DLF와 1.0% GTB의 혼합 첨가구에서 높게 나타났다 (P<0.05). 사료 요구율은 대조구에 비하여 10% DLF 처리구와 1.0% GTB 처리구에서 유의적으로 감소하였다 (P<0.05). 난황 콜레스테롤은 DLF 처리구와 대조구 사이에서 변화가 없었다 (P>0.05). 난황의 리놀렌산은 DLF 처리구와 1.0% GTB 첨가한 처리구에서 유의적으로 증가하였다.

추출조건에 따른 녹차음료의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화활성 (Physicochemical Properties and Antioxidant Activities of Green Tea with Reference to Extraction Conditions)

  • 추출조건을 달리하여 제조한 녹차음료의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화활성에 대하여 조사하였다. 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판 녹차음료의 pH는 각각 6.22, 6.39 및 6.20이었고, 색도 L, a 및 b값은 각각 96.91, -1.06, 7.77, 96.20, -1.73, 13.68 및 95.40, -4.75, 25.51이었다. 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판 녹차음료의 총유리아미노산 함량은 253.21, 262.65 및 58.36 mg/100 mL이었고, 주요 유리아미노산으로는 aminoadipic acid(102.56, 136.29 및 27.02 mg/100 mL), arginine (23.32, 30.75 및 7.31 mg/100 mL) 및 serine (18.22, 17.96 및 5.94 mg/100 mL)이었다. 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판 녹차음료의 총 페놀성화합물 및 카페인 함량은 각각 500.65와 317.34, 852.58과 225.51 및 387.14와 $164.53\;{\mu}g/mL$로 녹차음료 2가 높았다. 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판 녹차음료의 총카테킨함량은 각각 294.80, 415.70 및 $130.99\;{\mu}g/mL$이었고, 주요 카테킨으로는 epigallocatechin, catechin 및 epigallocatechin gallate 순이었으며, epigallocatechin의 함량이 각각 186.5, 268.1 및 $82.26\;{\mu}g/mL$로 가장 많은 함량을 보였다. 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판 녹차음료 동결건조물의 항산화 활성은 농도 의존적이었으며, 농도 $125\;{\mu}g/mL$에서 DPPH 라디칼 소거활성은 각각 85.48%, 87.09% 및 87.03%였고, ferric reducing/antioxidant activity는 농도 $1,000\;{\mu}g/mL$에서 2.66, 2.70 및 2.67이었다. 또한 쓴맛을 제외한 색, 향, 단맛 및 전체적인 기호도와 같은 관능검사결과 녹차음료 1, 2 및 시판녹차음료에서 큰 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다.

국내 시판되는 녹차, 우롱차 및 홍차의 카테킨 함량과 항산화능 비교 (The Comparison of Antioxidant Capacities and Catechin Contents of Korean Commercial Green, Oolong, and Black Teas)

  • Using green tea(GT), oolong tea(OT), black tea(BT) and green tea bag(GTB) out of tea products in market, this study quantified polyphenol and catechins as anti-oxidant substances and analyzed their respective anti-oxidant capacities. As a result, more epigallocathechin(EGC) was found in GT and GTB as well as caffein(CAF) in GT and BT. GT contained more epigallocathechin gallate(EGCG) than other tea types. Both FRAP and ORAC, as two methods of analyzing anti-oxidant capacities, showed that GTB had highest anti-oxidant capacities, while OT had lowest of all. By brand, it was found that all the 3 brands of GT had similarly high anti-oxidant capacities, but there were differences in the anti-oxidant activities of GTB and BT depending on brand. Out of catechin components, it was found that epicatechin(EC), epicathechin gallate(ECG) and EGCG were major components affecting anti-oxidant capacities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of extracts from Geranium thunbergii (GT) in high-fat-diet-induced obese rats. Animals were randomly divided into four groups [normal diet, high fat diet, MeOH extract of GT (GTM), and BuOH fraction of GT (GTB)] and GT samples were treated with dose of 100 mg/kg for 8 weeks. It was observed that GTB-treated group significantly reduced body weight gain, food intake, epididymal fat weight, and triglyceride level in serum and liver compared to control group. The rats fed GTB also decreased contents of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), hydroxyl radical, and xanthin oxidase (XO) increased by high fat diet. Furthermore, the anti-oxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and catalase were increased by GTB treatment. The experimental results indicate that GTB has anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidemic effects, as well as radical scavenging activity.

Pain perception and efficacy of local analgesia using 2% lignocaine, buffered lignocaine, and 4% articaine in pediatric dental procedures

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the pain perception and anesthetic efficacy of 2% lignocaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine, buffered lignocaine, and 4% articaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine for the inferior alveolar nerve block. Methods: This was a double-blind crossover study involving 48 children aged 5-10 years, who received three inferior alveolar nerve block injections in three appointments scheduled one week apart from the next. Pain on injection was assessed using the Wong-Baker Faces pain scale and the sound eye motor scale (SEM). Efficacy of anesthesia was assessed by subjective (tingling or numbness of the lip, tongue, and corner of mouth) and objective signs (pain on probing). Results: Pain perception on injection assessed with Wong-Baker scale was significantly different between buffered lignocaine and lignocaine (P < 0.001) and between buffered lignocaine and articaine (P = 0.041). The onset of anesthesia was lowest for buffered lignocaine, with a statistically significant difference between buffered lignocaine and lignocaine (P < 0.001). Moreover, the efficacy of local analgesia assessed using objective signs was significantly different between buffered lignocaine and lignocaine (P < 0.001) and between lignocaine and articaine. Conclusion: Buffered lignocaine was the least painful and the most efficacious anesthetic agent during the inferior alveolar nerve block injection in 5-10-year-old patients.

산성 광산배수로부터 형성되는 증발잔류광물의 생성량과 지구화학 (The Production and Geochemistry of Evaporite from the Acid Mine Drainage)

  • 산성광산배수가 증발되어 형성된 증발잔류광믈의 생성량과 지구화학적 특성 그리고 산성광산배수의 성분변화를 고찰하였다. 여러 종류의 색을 띄는 증발잔류광물들이 산성광산배수와 접촉하는 암석표면에서 관찰된다. 실험실에서 증발잔류광물을 형성시키기 위하여 폐석탄광(GTa, GTb, GH 및 GB)에서 산성광산배수를 채취하여 자연 건조시켰다. 산성 광산배수가 증발되는 동안 TDS, EC, 주요성분이온과 미량성분이온들의 함량은 증가하지만 E.R.과 DO 값은 증발시간과 함께 감소한다. GTb와 GB 시료의 Fe 농도는 증발 시간과 함께 서서히 증가하나 GH 시료는 증발하루에는 Fe이가 검출되나 그 이후에는 갑자기 검출되지 않는다. 이와 같이 Fe 성분이 검출되지 않는 이유는 비정질 철수산화물이 형성되어 침전되기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 4 l의 산성광산배수를 80일 동안 자연 건조시킨 후 얻어진 증발잔류광물의 무게는 4 g(GTa), 5 g(GB), 15 g(GH) 및 24 g(GTb)를 각각 얻었다. 생성된 증발잔류광물의 무게와 현장에서 측정한 EC, TDS, 염도, ER, DO 및 pH와의 회귀분석에서 결정계수가 각각 0.98, 0.99, 0.98, 0.88, 0.89 및 0.25로 나타난다. 현장에서 이들 파라메타를 측정한다면 산성광산배수로부터 형성되는 증발잔류광물의 양을 추정하는데 쉽게 이용할 수 있을 것이다. 증발잔류광물의 모든 시료에서 석고와 사리염이 들어 있음을 X-선 회절법으로 확인하였다. GTb 시료를 52, 65, 70, 95, 150, 250 및 $350^{\circ}C$에서 각각 1 시간씩 가열한 후 XRD분석한 결과 석고, $CaSO_4{\cdot}1/2H_2O$ 및 케서라이트(kieserite)가 있음을 확인하였다. 가열온도가 증가할수록 석고를 지시해주는 $7.66{\AA}$의 강도, $CaSO_4{\cdot}1/2H_2O$를 지시해주는 $5.59{\AA}$ 강도 그리고 케서라이트를 지시하는 $4.83{\AA}$ 강도 크기가 탈수작용으로 인하여 서서히 감소한다. SEM 및 EDS분석에서 석고로 판단되는 방사상의 결정 집합체들이 침상과 주상의 결정들로 구성되어 있다. 꽃 모양의 구조를 보이는 GTb 시료는 EDS분석에서 Ca 성분이 검출되지 않는다. Ca 성분이 검출되지 않는 것으로 보아 이 꽃 모양의 증발잔류광물은 사리염으로 판단된다.

Analysis of Trend and Convergence for Science and Technology using the VOSviewer

  • In this study, articles of the science and technology field that had been monitored for the period from 2002 to 2013 using GTB (Global Trends Briefing) were analyzed. Specifically, the VOSviewer was used to analyze the annual science and technology trends by keyword and the science and technology standard-classification information indicated in the GTB articles, and the convergence trends were therefore monitored. The findings of this study show that active studies were under way in the fields of material science and new and renewable energy, and that convergence has progressed. This result indicates that the information of the articles on papers and patents is more reliable, as it can reflect the current trends more rapidly in the science and technology field than the paper information or the patent information that is traditionally used in analyses of science and technology information.
