Availability Assessment of GPS Augmentation System Using QZSS at Urban Environment of seoul (서울 도심지에서의 QZSS를 이용한 GPS 확장시스템의 가용도 평가)

  • This paper analyzes the availability and Dilution Of Precision (DOP) of GPS, widely used in positioning, with and without augmentation using QZSS (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System). Orbit simulator for QZSS is developed using Kepler‘s orbital parameters. Also 3D modeling technique based on three-Dimensional GIS digital map and satellite tracking algorithm for visible satellite simulation system are discussed. Performance improvement of the availability and DOP were achieved by combining GPS with QZSS at urban environment of Seoul.

Precise Static Positioning with Dual-Frequency P-code/Phase Receivers in Global Positioning System (GPS위성의 P코드/위상측정용 2주파수 수신기에 의한 정밀측위)

  • The development of the Global Positioning System was one of the most significant technical advancements in the surveying fields during the 1980's. In recent years, the use of GPS techniques are increased because of the improvements of receiver design and the data analysis, and the greater accuracy. In this paper, the static positioning with special linear combinations of data is reviewed and some experiences of dual-frequency P-code/phase receivers are discussed. The test results of Wild GPS System-200 show that the highest accuracies of 1ppm are obtainable on baselines of 7km/37km and the positional accuracies of 10m, which is applicable to determination of initial coordinates, are also possible on point-positioning of P-code measurements.

  • Energy efficiency and safe mobility are the two key constituents of the future automobile. The technologies that enable these features are now heavily dependent upon information and communication technology rather than traditional auto-mechanical technology. This paper presents an exploratory project 'Smart&Green Vehicle Project' at Western Michigan University which is to improve the geographical location accuracy of vehicles and to study various applications of making such location data available. Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Navigation System (INS), Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) technology, and data fusion among these technologies are investigated. Testing and evaluation is done on systems which will gather vehicular positioning data during GPS signal loss. Vehicles in urban settings do not acquire accurate positioning data from GPS alone; therefore there is a need for exploration into technology that can assist GPS in urban settings. The goal of this project is to improve the accuracy of positioning data during a loss of GPS signal. Controlled experiments are performed to gather data which aided in assessing the feasibility of these technologies for use in vehicular platforms.

  • This paper discusses the development of compaction management system using Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS technology for the efficient management or compaction. The use or RTK provides the land surveyors with a graphical display of his/her corrected position on the ground at that moment in time. In this work, we intended to improve the efficiency of compaction management showing the route of rollers and the total number of compaction obtained from management software (GPSROLL v.1.0) developed in this study. The RTK GPS system installed on the roller. To improve the efficiency of field management, GPSROLL software provides also data processing module for the field soil test and the field surveying data. GPSROLL system is based on the Korean GUI for user-friendly data input and output.

  • While the budget has been allocated more for repairs and reinforcements, casualties are gradually increased due to slope disaster. Slope disaster causes road damaged as well as casualties. It also causes significant social and economic loss. The measurement device, which is installed inside ground of slope like inclinometer, has the high loss rate when slope is being slided. The electric type and the vibrating wire type have low durability because of corrosion. To cover the demerit of the present slope monitoring, the measurement method using the Multi-Antenna GPS has been developed. The Multi-Antenna GPS has been installed in the local slope as the regular monitoring system for slope. Although the initial cost of the Multi-Antenna GPS for installation is high, the additional cost is low. So it is the suitable method for large slope. The regular monitoring system using the Multi-Antenna GPS is the suitable measurement method for watching slope collapse, which is occurred widely, because it is economical, has high durability, and collects data with high resolution.

A Design of a Simplified Hybrid Navigation System for a Mobile Robot by Using Kalman Filter (칼만 필터를 이용한 이동 로봇의 간이 복합 항법 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, a simple version of the hybrid navigation system using Kalman filter is proposed. The implemented hybrid navigation system is composed of a GPS to measure the position and the velocity, and a IMU(inertial measurement unit) to measure the acceleration and the posture of a mobile robot. A discrete Kalman filter is applied to provide the position of the robot by fusing both of the sensor data. When GPS signal is available, the navigation system estimates the position of the robot from the Kalman filter using position and velocity from GPS, and acceleration from IMU. During the interval until next GPS signal arrives, the system calculates the position of the robot using acceleration from IMU and velocity obtained at the previous step. Performance of the navigation system is verified by comparing the real path and the estimated path of the mobile robot. From experiments, we conclude that the navigation system is acceptable for the mobile robot.

  • In this paper, a prototype of GPS jammer localization system for precise landing is developed. The jammer localization system consists of the four jamming signal receivers for collecting RF signal, one central tracking station for estimating jammer position, and one monitoring station for displaying estimated position on the map. In order to estimate jammer location TDOA and AOA algorithm are introduced, and the function and design parameters of the developed prototype are proposed. CW, DSSS, Swept CW jamming signals were generated and used. From the results, it can be confirmed that developed system meets the performance goal.

Development of Automatic Cruise System of Unmanned Boat for Surveying Water Depth in Reservoir Using GIS-GPS Technologies (GIS-GPS 기술을 이용한 저수지 수심측정 무인보트의 자율항법시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, an automatic cruise system of unmanned boat was developed for surveying water depth in reservoir using GIS (geographic information system)-GPS (global positioning system) Technologies. the automatic cruise system consisted of an automatic path generation program (APGP) and an automatic boat control program (ABCP). A grid processing method with $3{\times}3$ roving window in GIS function was used to develop the APGP. For development of the ABCP, GPS and its coordinate calculation technique were introduced. The developed system was tested to verify the applicability for a sample reservoir, Misan reservoir located on Ansan city of Kyunggi province. From the test results, this study found the APGP generated cruise path automatically according to input condition on grid size of 5 m, 10 m, and 20 m, as well as, the ABCP also tracked well the cruise paths with high position accuracy. Another verification result on surveying time for 20 ha of water area also showed that the new system could survey water depth of reservoir quickly, including very high quality of spatial resolution.

A Scheme for Improvement of Positioning Accuracy Based on BSS in Jamming Environments (재밍 환경에서 BSS 기반 측위 정확도 향상 기법)

  • Due to GPS signal's vulnerability of jamming attack, various enhancement techniques are needed. Among variety of techniques, we focused on GPS receiver's anti-jamming techniques. There are many anti-jamming methods at GPS receivers which include filtering methods in time domain, frequency domain and space domain. However, these methods are ineffective to signals, which include both jamming and noise. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a jamming separation scheme by using a BSS method in a jamming environment. As separated GPS signals include noise after the jamming separation method, it is difficult to receive accurate GPS signals. For this reason, this paper also proposes a wavelet de-noising method to effectively eliminate noise. Experimental results of this paper are based on a real field test data of an integrated GPS/QZSS/Wi-Fi positioning system. At the end, the simulation result demonstrates its superiority by showing improved positioning accuracy.

Non-Foster Matching Circuit for Wideband Anti-Jamming Small GPS Antennas (광대역 항재밍 소형 GPS 안테나용 비 포스터 정합회로)

  • Global Positioning System(GPS) is a useful system used in both civilian and military applications. However, the signal of GPS is susceptible to jamming attacks due to low receive sensitivity, since the signals come from the satellite located at over 20,000 km above the earth. In this paper, we have conducted a preceding research on a non-Foster matching circuit that efficiently matches an electrically ultra-small GPS antenna. Electrically Small Antennas(ESAs) are inefficient radiators and are difficult to match in wideband due to extremely high quality factor. In order to match small GPS antenna in wideband, a non-Foster matching circuit for a small GPS antenna was designed. A negative impedance converter circuit consisting of Linvill's cross-coupled pair transistors was fabricated and its stability was verified by the time-domain stability analysis. In addition, anechoic chamber measurements show that the non-Foster matching circuit for small GPS antenna can lead bore-sight gain improvement by more than 17 dB.
