An Integrated Navigation System Combining INS and Ultrasonic-Speedometer to Overcome GPS-denied Area (GPS 음영 지역 극복을 위한 INS/초음파 속도계 결합 항법 시스템 설계)

  • Recently, multi-sensor integration techniques have been actively studied to obtain reliable and accurate navigation solution in GPS (Global Positioning System)-denied harsh environments such as urban canyons, tunnels, and underground roads. In this paper, we propose a low-cost ultrasonic-speedometer utilizing the characteristics of the ultrasonic propagation. An efficient integrated INS (inertial navigation system)/ultrasonic-speedometer navigation system is also proposed to improve the accuracy of positioning in GPS-denied environments. To evaluate the proposed system, car experiments with field-collected measurements were performed. By the experiment results, it was confirmed that the proposed INS/ultrasonic-speedometer system bounds the positioning error growth effectively even though GPS signal is blocked more than 10 seconds and a low-cost MEMS IMU (micro electro mechanical systems inertial measurement unit) is utilized.

  • In this paper, a monitoring system is desigend for a GPS/INS integration system. The function of the monitoring system is to acquire real-time data from system and displayed them. The monitoring system supervises the operation of navigation system. Visual C++ was used in the implementation.   • In order to calculate accurate traffic and traffic speed, qualified and sufficient GPS data should be provided. However, it is difficult to provide accurate traffic information using restricted GPS data from probe vehicles because of communication costs. This paper developed a algorithm that recovers links omitted by restricted GPS data with topology information, and calculate traffic speed with original links and recovered links. T traffic information service of city with a new algorithm can provide more accurate traffic and traffic speed than the original system.

  • An unmanned ground vehicle can perform its mission automatically without human control in unknown environment. To move up to a destination in various surrounding situation, navigational information is indispensible. In order to be adopted for an unmanned vehicle, the navigation box is small, light weight and low power consumption. This paper suggests navigation system using a low grade MEMS IMU for supplying position, velocity, and attitude of an unmanned ground vehicle. This system consists of low cost and light weight MEMS sensors and a GPS receiver to meet unmanned vehicle requirements. The sensors are basically integrated by loosely coupled method using Kalman filter and internal algorithms are divided into initial alignment, sensor error compensation, and complex navigation algorithm. The performance of the designed navigation system has been analyzed by real time field test and compared to commercial tactical grade GPS/INS system.

  • These days many systems use the gps signal to get their own position. Because it's cheap and accurate and convenient. But, the strength of gps signal is very weak and can be easily interrupted by GPS jamming and GPS spoofing. Normally, fighter can use DME, TACAN, etc to correct their position error when GPS is not working. But, many aircraft which does not have those kinds of hardware need to pay additional cost to get it. In this paper, we propose how to overcome GPS jamming and GPS spoofing by only using data link system. The main purpose of this paper is to make the data link protocol to get an exact position information of own unit at gps error environment.

  • Nowadays, GPS is used widely, especially in case which needs precise position information, such as car navigation systems and various kinds of position measuring instruments in an outdoor environment. According to their applications, there are many kinds of GPS receivers with different costs and error rates. The maximum error range of the general-purpose GPS receiver is within 30m, though the error rate depends on receiving rate of signal and weather condition. RTK(Real-Time Kinematic) and DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) have more precise accuracy than the general-purpose GPS. However end users can't afford use them because of their high price and large size of equipments. In order for the end user to obtain precise position information, it is important that GPS receivers has portability and low price. In this study, we introduce a new system that offers precise position information using the DGPS mechanism satisfying low cost and portability.

Precision Validation of GPS Precipitable Water Vapor via Comparison with MWR Measurements (MWR 관측치와 비교를 통한 GPS 가강수량 정밀도 검증)

  • The precipitable water vapors (PWVs) obtained from Global Positioning System (GPS) and Microwave Radiometer (MWR) measurements have been compared for validation of precision of the GPS PWV at Daegwallyoung station for 21 days from Sep. 30 to Oct. 20, 2006. The GPS PWV is estimated using the delay of GPS signals due to the water vapor in the atmosphere with a local mean temperature equation, called HP model, and the MWR PWV by the combinational radiance observation of two channels (23.8 and 31.4 GHz). During the co-observation period, the MWR and GPS PWV show a similar trend, and the bias between the PWVs is 1.7 mm on average. When the bias is removed, the PWV of GPS gives good agreement with that of MWR, having about 1 mm for both the standard deviation and RMS error between the GPS and MWR PWV.

  • This study aims to methodology a system which is able to monitor and configuration management of long span bridge in real time using multi GPS. Through setting up many GPS at the important points of long span bridge and measuring displacement in real time, over all 3D configuration of bridge could be analyzed. Behavior analyzing system developed in this study is able to digitize and visualize the overall and points displacement of bridge and deal with events actively. Also it is able to calculate statistical data related to analyze behavior through the constricting database of measuring data.

  • In the GPS/DR integrated system, the GPS position(or velocity) is used to compensate the DR output and to calibrate errors of the DR sensor. This synergistic relationship ensures that the calibrated DR accuracy can be maintained even when the GPS signal is blocked. Because of the observability problem, however, the DR sensors are not sufficiently calibrated when the vehicle speed is low. This problem can be solved if we use a multi-antenna GPS receiver for attitude determination instead of conventional one. This paper designs a two-antenna GP receiver integrated with DR sensors. The proposed integration system has three remarkable features. First, the DR sensor can be calibrated regardless of the vehicle speed with the aid of two-antenna GPS receiver. Secondly, the search space of integer ambiguities in GPS carrier-phase measurements is reduced to a part of the surface of the sphere using DR heading. Thirdly, the detection resolution of cycle-slips in GPS carrier-phase measurements is improved with the aid of DR heading. From the experimental result, it is shown that the search space is drastically reduced to about 3/20 of the non-aided case and the cycle-slips of 1 or half cycle can be detected.

  • A protocol for the web-based GPS data processing system has been developed. The system is developed following the typical ASP system, in which the GPS data acquired by various users can be uploaded through the web and the data is processed with data processing components selected by the users. After the processing, the results are also transported to the users through the web. The developed system is designed for easy software upgrade and it is an synchronous process mode so that the multiple accesses can be handled with high user flexibility. The database components for the efficient GPS data maintenance are developed so that the data from CORS can be used for the data processing. Currently, the absolute and relative positioning algorithms using code measurements are integrated and much more algorithms such as the data quality control, absolute and relative positioning using phases will be integrated in near future.
