Power grid techniques are distributed over general power systems ranging from power stations to power transmission, power distribution, and users. To monitor and control the elements and performance of a power system in real time in the extensive area of power generation, power transmission, wide-area monitoring (WAM) and control techniques are required (Sattinger et al. 2007). Also, to efficiently operate a power grid, integrated techniques of information and communication technology are required for the application of communication network and relevant equipment, computing, and system control software. WAM should make a precise power grid measurement of more than once per cycle by time synchronization using GPS. By collecting the measurement values of a power grid from substations located at faraway regions through remote communication, the current status of the entire power grid system can be examined. However, for GPS that is used in general national industries, unexpected dangerous situations have occurred due to its deterioration and jamming. Currently, the power grid is based on a synchronization system using GPS. Thus, interruption of the time synchronization system of the power system due to the failure or abnormal condition of GPS would have enormous effects on each field such as economy, security, and the lives of the public due to the destruction of the synchronization system of the national power grid. Developed countries have an emergency substitute system in preparation for this abnormal situation of GPS. Therefore, in Korea, a system that is used to prepare for the interruption of GPS reception should also be established on a long-term basis; but prior to this, it is required that an evaluation technique for the time synchronization performance of a GPS receiver using an atomic clock within the power grid. In this study, a monitoring system of time synchronization based on GPS at a power grid was implemented, and the results were presented.

This paper describes a GPS signal generator that can generate multiple satellite signals in real time at the RF level. It realizes the verified software algorithm on a FPGA. The algorithm models orbits and environmental errors such as ionospheric and tropospheric multipath. The position of a simulated receiver is one of simulation parameters. The hardware which consists of a digital logic board and an analog board can generate 16 simulated satellites signals at the same time. The users can generate spoofing signals and jamming signals as well as satellite signals by using the windows-based control software. In addition, the software provides GIS-based simulation scenarios editing tools. We verified the generator by using commercial receivers. As an application, we configured generators as indoor positioning systems and tested them in a building. To improve the accuracy of indoor systems is our further study.
Artificial intelligence is closely linked to our real lives, leading innovation in various fields. Especially, as a means of transportation possessing artificial intelligence, autonomous unmanned vehicles are actively researched and are expected to be put into practical use soon. Autonomous cars and autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles are required to equip accurate navigation system so that they can find out their present position and move to their destination. At present, the navigation of transportation that we operate is mostly dependent on GPS. However, GPS is vulnerable to external intereference. In fact, since 2010, North Korea has jammed GPS several times, causing serious disruptions to mobile communications and aircraft operations. Therefore, in order to ensure safety in the operation of the autonomous unmanned vehicles and to prevent serious accidents caused by the intereference, rapid situation judgment and countermeasure are required. In this paper, based on big data and machine learning technology, we propose a countermeasure system for GPS interference that supports decision making by applying John Boyd's OODA loop cycle (detection - direction setting - determination - action).

Many spoofing detection studies have been conducted to cope with the most difficult types of deception among various disturbances of GPS, such as jamming, spoofing, and meaconing. In this paper, we propose a spoofing detection scheme based on elevation masked-relative received power between GPS L1 and L2 signals in a system using a multi-band array antenna. The proposed scheme focuses on enabling spoofing to be normally detected and minimizes the possibility of false detection in an environment where false alarms may occur due to pattern distortion among elements of an array antenna. The pattern distortion weakens the GPS signal strength at low elevation. It becomes confusing to detect a spoofing signal based on the relative power difference between GPS L1 and L2, especially when GPS L2 has weak signal strength. We propose design parameters for the relative power threshold including beamforming gain, the minimum received power difference between L1 and L2, and the patch antenna gain difference between L1 and L2. In addition, in order to eliminate the weak signal strength of GPS L2 in the spoofing detection process, we propose a rotation matrix that sets the elevation mask based on platform coordinates. Array antennas generally do not have high usefulness in commercial areas where receivers are operated alone, but are considered essential in military areas where GPS receivers are used together with signal processing for beamforming in the direction of GPS satellites. Through laboratory and live sky tests using the device under test, the proposed scheme with an elevation mask detects spoofing signals well and reduces the probability of false detection relative to that without the elevation mask.
This paper proposed a microstrip antenna that can perform jamming of satellite signals from the GPS L5, GLONASS G3, BDS B2 frequency bands (1164 - 1217 MHz) that are employed mainly for military purposes among the GNSS frequencies using unmanned aircrafts over the enemy's sky in time of emergency. The single element in the proposed antenna can be easily mounted to unmanned aircrafts. This study analyzed the characteristics of miniaturization and beam of radiating elements by applying the image theories and perturbation effect to satisfy the uniform level at ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ of beam steering goal due to the phase delay after antenna array. The designed microstrip antenna had a miniaturized radiating element area (x-y plane), which was reduced by 76.3% compared to that of basic microstrip antenna, and its beam width was $190^{\circ}$ in the E-plane and $140^{\circ}$ in the H plane. In addition, the simulation was conducted to determine the characteristics due to the phase delay by arranging the designed single microstrip antenna by $1{\times}4$ array and the results showed that beam steering of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ is possible in the H-plane on the basis of $0^{\circ}$. Thus, the proposed antenna was verified to be effective in satellite signal jamming in the air as it was attached to the lower end of unmanned aircrafts.
As the low power GPS signal is susceptible to interference, interference can seriously degrade the performance of GPS receiver. This paper designs a ANIEF(Adaptive Narrowband Interference Excision in Frequency domain) filter that removes narrow band interferences with low signal loss. This filter uses the pre-correlation technique and attempts to filter out the interference in the frequency domain. The interference excision performance of the designed filter is evaluated for various interferences using the ANIEF filter inserted GPS software receiver and the interference generator. Interferences considered in this paper are single-tone CWI(Continuous Wave Interference), multi-tones CWI, pulsed CWI, and swept CWI. The narrowband interference excision filter in frequency domain is very effective against various interferences and the strong interference with a simple structure. However, the signal power loss is unavoidable while transforming. In this paper, the hamming window and overlap technique are adopted to reduce the signal power loss. Finally, the interference excision performance and the reduced signal power loss of the ANIEF filter are shown.

Drones in the contemporary landscape have transcended their initial public utility, expanding into various industries and making significant inroads into the private sector. The majority of commercially available drones are presently equipped with GPS receivers to relay location signals from artificial satellites, aiming to inform users about the drone's whereabouts. However, a notable drawback arises from the considerable distance over which these location signals travel, resulting in a weakened signal intensity. This limitation introduces vulnerabilities, allowing for the possibility of location manipulation and jamming attacks if the drone receives a stronger signal than the intended location signal from satellites. Thus, this paper focuses on the safety assessment of drones relying on GPS-based location acquisition and addresses potential vulnerabilities in wireless communication scenarios. Targeting commercial drones, the paper analyzes and empirically demonstrates the feasibility of GPS spoofing attacks. The outcomes of this study are anticipated to serve as foundational experiments for conducting more realistic vulnerability analysis and safety evaluations.
GPS which measured user's location information outdoors should be of poor sensitivity because of interference and jamming of different electromagnetic waves. Specially, it has a defect of low received rate in high-rise urban where reflection and refraction of satellite signal go well. In this paper, I propose user location information sharing modeling of both vehicle and mobile phone using bluetooth in urban.
In this paper, results for an installation and operation of a GPS jammer localization system were analyzed. The jammer localization system was developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute and it consists of 4 Receiver Stations, a Central Tracking Station, and a Monitoring Station. The system was installed at Incheon International Airport in November 2014; each Receiver Stations were installed at rooftop of buildings apart from 4km, and the Central Tracking Station and a Monitoring Station were installed at indoor. Results of the operation can be monitored through web-browser in real-time, Korea Aerospace Research Institute and Incheon International Airport Corporation are continuously monitoring them. So far, there is no jamming signal which affects GPS receivers around the airport, however, some abnormal signals were frequently received at Receiver Stations. Therefore, the characteristics of those signals were also analyzed in this paper.

The paper presents the preparations work and experiences gained from realtime GPS car monitoring during the European Rally Championships organized on 10-12 June 2005 in Poland. The developed system is based on GPS and GSM/GPRS technology. Distribution and teletransmission of data are possible using different GSM operators in Poland, which makes the system fully independent. The system's server collects data from rally cars, processing and send data through VPN connections to the SQL server located in main control room. Data can be collected in real time via Internet or GPRS. Some information on GSM/GPRS range during rally championships are also presented in the paper. The study covered many trials and tests of different software and various configurations of the GPRS modems before finally the system started to work. Information coming from 10 Rally Cars were collected to the SQL Server continuously in one second interval. In real time mode these all data were displayed simultaneously in the rally main control room and in the rally press conference room. Paper describes also adopted emergency procedures and remote reconfiguration of GPS/GPRS boxes inside rally cars made during championships. Some problems and method of practical solutions are presented to avoid active jamming dangerous for a driver and his pilot, having system of communication intercoms jammed by teletransmission of GPRS 900/1800 MHz. In cooperation with rally teams special GPS/GPRS safety boxes were designed and made. Monitoring of all 7 rally stages with GPS receivers and method of calibrations of the maps were presented. GSM signal coverage was also checked in all stages. All data transmitted from rally cars were recorded in the computer. Some of our GPS cars had accidents and dispite them information were continuously sent to server. There is possibility to show in post mission mode the position of chosen cars in our rally application. Some information of best rally cars are presented also in the paper.
