A Two-antenna GPS Receiver Integrated with Dead Reckoning Sensors (Two-antenna 자세 결정용 GPS 수신기와 DR 센서의 통합 시스템)

  • In the GPS/DR integrated system, the GPS position(or velocity) is used to compensate the DR output and to calibrate errors in the DR sensor. This synergistic relationship ensures that the calibrated DR accuracy can be maintained even when the GPS signal is blocked. Because of the observability problem, however, the DR sensors are not sufficiently calibrated when the vehicle speed is low. This problem can be solved if we use a multi-antenna GPS receiver for attitude determination instead of conventional one. This paper designs a two-antenna GPS receiver integrated with DR sensors. The proposed integration system has three remarkable features. First, the DR sensor can be calibrated regardless of the vehicle speed with the aid of two-antenna GPS receiver. Secondly, the search space of integer ambiguities in GPS carrier-phase measurements is reduced to a part of the surface of the sphere using DR heading. Thirdly, the detection resolution of cycle-slips in GPS carrier-phase measurements is improved with the aid of DR heading. From the experimental result, it is shown that the search grace is drastically reduced to about 3120 of the non-aided case and the cycle-slips of 1 or half cycle can be detected.

Implementation of Small Active Antenna for GPS/GLONASS Receiving (GPS/GLONASS 수신용 소형 액티브 안테나의 구현)

  • In this paper, GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna is proposed. A microstrip patch antenna which supports dual-band (GPS and GLONASS) was optimized. The antenna size is $13{\times}13{\times}3.6mm$. The jig was changed to confirm the proposed antenna characteristic size, was adjusted to feed gap of the patch antenna, it was confirmed by change in LNA shield case or not. The antenna jig size is $65.6{\times}13{\times}0.8mm$. The maximum gain of the GPS band is 3.78dBi, the maximum gain of the GLONASS bands is 4dBi. To amplify the Satellite reception signal level, one-stage low noise amplifier(LNA) was designed. The LNA chip was using the BGA715 N7, the LNA gain is 19.9dB. The utilization possibility of the GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.

  • In this paper, a slotted trapezoidal microstrip fractal patch antenna is designed and fabricated for the vehicle GPS antenna. We designed air substrate patch antenna to obtain gain improvement by the elimination of dielectric loss. By applying fractal structure with crossed slot to trapezoidal patch, we obtained 42.5 % as much patch size as conventional triangular patch antenna. Measured bandwidth was 200 MHz on GPS band under VSWR 2:1 And gain was 4.31 dBi at resonant frequency that is 2$\sim$5 dB higher gain than conventional ceramic patch antenna on GPS band.

  • In this paper, the design, construction and basic characteristics of an electronically adaptive array antenna for the GPS receiver is described. The susceptibility of the GPS signals to the interference is of concern to the GPS user community. Because of the low received power of the GPS signals, outages can easily occur due to the unintentional interference and the easily obtainable low cost GPS jammer denying access to the GPS signals. We propose a technique of the adaptive array antenna that detects the GPS interference sources and controls the null beam pattern only toward the jamming sources to acquire GPS navigation data after acquisition and tracking of the GPS signals.

Small-Sized GPS/GLONASS Patch Antenna Using a Ceramic Dielectric (세라믹 유전체를 이용한 소형 GPS/GLONASS 패치 안테나)

  • A small sized ceramic dielectric patch antenna is designed and implemented for GPS/GLONASS combined receiver, and it shows a wideband characteristics with circular polarization. For the miniaturization of the antenna, high-permittivity dielectric material is used, and the wideband characteristics with low axial-ratio is achieved by using dual feed with 90$^{\circ}$ phase difference. The measured data of the manufactured antenna show that the bandwidth is 242 MHz, the axial ratio is less than 3 dB, the half-power beam-width is more than 112$^{\circ}$, and the antenna satisfies the required characteristics of the GPS/GLONASS antenna.

  • A determinated position with GPS (Global Positioning System) data processing is the position of the phase center of a GPS antenna. The phase center of a GPS antenna is. not a stable point and depends on the azimuth and elevation angles of GPS satellites. It is known that the phase center variations (PCV) of a GPS antenna are greater in the vertical than the horizontal directions. The PCV calibration models for a GPS. antenna has two approaches: relative and absolute. In this study. we compared the two calibration models using the six operational permanent GPS stations in South Korea and analysed the PCV of each station. In addition, we. tested two different kinds of GPS antennas and compared the results. The accuracy and precision of the relative calibration was worse than the absolute calibration.

  • In this paper, a new fault detection and isolation algorithm fur inertial sensor system is proposed. To identify the inertial sensor fault, single antenna GPS receiver is used as an effective redundancy source. To use GPS receiver as redundancy for the inertial sensors, the algorithm to estimate the attitude and acceleration using single antenna GPS receiver is adopted. By using Doppler shift of carrier phase signal and kinetic characteristics of aircraft, attitude information of aircraft can be obtained at the coordinated flight condition. Based on this idea, fault diagnosis algorithm for inertial sensors using single antenna GPS based attitude is proposed. For more effective FDI, decision variables considering the aircraft maneuver are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through the numerical simulations.

  • This paper proposed a method to design the offset slotted rectangular microstrip patch antenna which can be used for GPS antenna. The multi-port connection method and the desegmentation technique had been used to analyze !he characteristics of this antenna. To reduce a size of this antenna, a dielectric substrate with a high permittivity($\varepsilon_{\gamma}$=10.2) was used and a offset rectangular slot was inserted in the microstrip patch antenna. The dimension of a manufactured antenna is $20\times30\times1.27$[mm]. Accordingly this small antenna can be used directly GPS antenna or cellular phone.

Internal GPS Antenna for Mobile Phone (휴대단말기 내장형 GPS 안테나)

  • In this paper, an internal GPS antenna for mobile phones is designed and fabricated. For the miniaturization of the antenna, high permittivity dielectric substrate((${\varepsilon}_r$=90) and small ground plane ($13mm{\times}13mm$) are used. To increase the receive gain, the antenna is composed with LNA(Low Noise Amplifier). Results of the manufactured antenna($13mm{\times}13mm{\times}8mm$) show that the maximum antenna gain is about 12 dBi, the axial ratio is less than 3 dB, and the current consumption of LNA is less than 4 mA.

  • This paper presents the design of a novel integrated T-DMB/GPS/Mobile antenna for vehicular application. The T-DMB antenna is designed with a modified meander-type microstrip patch providing linearly a polarized broadside radiation pattern. The GPS antenna is designed with an inserted slot in the patch antenna providing circularly polarized broadside radiation pattern. The Mobile (GSM, AMPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, etc.) antenna is designed as a modified G-type patch antenna providing multi-band operation. Experimental results indicate that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR 1:2.5) of the proposed T-DMB /GPS/Mobile antenna satisfactorily matches that of the simulation results. The 2D and 3D radiation patterns and gains according to the results of the experiment are also presented and discussed.
