  • A combined CPG (Central Pattern Generator) based foot trajectory and GP (Genetic Programming) based joint compensation method is presented for the adaptive humanoid walking. The CPG based foot trajectory methods have been successfully applied to basic slops and variable slops with slow rates, but have a limitation for the steep slop terrains. In order to increase an adaptability of humanoid walking for the rough terrains, a GP based joint compensation method is proposed and combined to the CPG (Central Pattern Generator) based foot trajectory method. The experiments using humanoid robot Nao are conducted in an ODE based Webots simulation environmemt to verify a stability of walking for the various aslope terrains. The proposed method is compared to the previous CPG foot trajectory technique and shows better performances especially for the steep varied slopes.

  • Many building codes use the empirical equation to determine fundamental period of vibration where in effect of length, width and the stiffness of the building is not explicitly accounted for. Also the equation, estimates the fundamental period of vibration with large safety margin beyond certain height of the building. An attempt is made to arrive at the simple empirical equations for fundamental period of vibration with adequate safety margin, using soft computing technique of Genetic Programming (GP). In the present study, GP models are developed in four categories, varying the number of input parameters in each category. Input parameters are chosen to represent mass, stiffness and geometry of the buildings directly or indirectly. Total numbers of 206 buildings are analyzed out of which, data set of 142 buildings is used to develop these models. It is observed that GP models developed under B and C category yield the same equation for fundamental period of vibration along X direction as well as along Y direction whereas the equation of fundamental period of vibration along X direction and along Y direction is of the same form for category D. The equations obtained as an output of GP models clearly indicate the influence of mass, geometry and stiffness of the building over fundamental period of vibration. These equations are then compared with the equation recommended by other researcher.

  • The multidrug resistance phenotype is one of the major problems in development of cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy. Some natural compounds from medicinal plants have demonstrated promising capacity in enhancing anticancer effects in drug resistant cancer cells. We aimed to investigate whether mangiferin might have an ability to re-sensitize MCF-7 breast cancer cells previously treated with short-term doxorubicin in vitro, through the modulation of efflux transporters, P-glycoprotein (P-gp), MRP1 and BCRP. We exposed MCF-7 breast cancer cells pretreated with doxorubicin for 10 days to mangiferin (10, 25 or 50 ${\mu}M$) for 96 hours. Afterwards, we evaluated influence on cell viability and level of mRNA expression of P-gp, MRP1 and BCRP. Doxorubicin given in combination with mangiferin at low concentrations (10 and 25 ${\mu}M$) failed to give significant reduction in cell viability, while at the highest concentrations, the combination significantly reduced cell viability. The mRNA expression analysis of P-gp, MRP1 and BCRP showed that mangiferin had inhibitory effects on P-gp but no effects on MRP1 and BCRP. In conclusion, we suggest that mangiferin at high concentrations can be used as chemosensitizer for doxorubicin therapy. This effect might be attributed by inhibitory effects of mangiferin on P-glycoprotein expression.

  • To elucidate structure of group "a" epitope, mouse antibodies that express idiotype monoclonal antibody and anti-idiotype monoclonal antibody against the group specific "a" determinant were purified by hydroxyapatite column. To obtain hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg). HBsAg positive blood was sequencially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, hydroxyapatite, sepharose 4B column chromatography and ultracentrifugation. The major protein (p25) and glycoprotein (gp30) of HBsAg were isolated by concanavalin-A-sepharose 4B. The ability of p25-gp30 among the HBsAg to inhibit the idiotype-anti-idiotype reaction was dependent on conformation, since reduced and alkylated p25-gp30 virtualy lost their inhibitory capacity when compared to native HBsAg. The data suggest that hepatitis B antigen is a conformational antigen critically dependent upon the disulfide bonds of p25-gp30.

  • Numerous reports have evaluated the predictive ability of carcass probes for meat quality using measurements taken early postmortem or near 24 h. The intervening time period, however, has been largely ignored. In this study, the capacity of three probes [pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and grading probe light reflectance (GP)] to predict pork longissimus muscle quality (drip and cooking losses, Warner-Bratzler shear, $L^*$, n = 30) was evaluated at 45 min, 90 min, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h postmortem. The strongest relationships were observed between cooking loss and 6 h EC and GP ($R^2$ = 0.66, 0.72), and $L^*$ and GP ($R^2$ = 0.57-0.66, 12-48 h). pH was most valuable early postmortem ($R^2$ = 0.63, 90 min with cooking loss). GP at 6 h most effectively ($R^2$ = 0.84) predicted a two factor (cooking loss+$L^*$) meat quality index. Results emphasize the predictive value of measures taken between 3 and 12 h postmortem.

  • This paper introduces GP(Genetic Programming) based corner detectors for an image processing. Various empirical algorithms have been studied to improve computational speed and accuracy including typical approaches, such as Harris and SUSAN. The these techniques are highly efficient, because properties of corner points are inspected and reflected into the algorithms. However these approaches are limited in discovering an innovative algorithm. In this study, we try to discover a more efficient technique by creating corner detector automatically using evolution of GP. The proposed method is compared to the existing corner detectors for test images.

  • A monitoring system for container using CPS is the system for positioning and managing containers in real time. CPS is capable of positioning the container, promptly with a reasonable amount of accuracy. Facility managers of ports or airports should have loading, unloading, and keeping freight effectively. Transport companies or freight owners should allocate moving container properly and be able to prevent the loss or delay of freight. In this study, the position and pathways of container are monitored by real-time tracking method. The absolute and relative locations of container are monitored digitally and visually from TC_loading to TC_unloading yard. It has been tested the movement of the containers equiped with GPS, and its accuracy and efficiency were analyzed.

  • GPS is an efficient system in surveying and car navigation. but it is difficult to catch minimum number of satellite when it is hindered by obstacle such as city area. GLONASS system doesn't have perfect constellation yet, but it has many similarities with GPS system in principle of point positioning and signal system. so, it is expected to be much efficient when it is used with GPS system. For the purpose of this, the coordinates of GPS and GLONASS system, the quality of time and frequency was investigated, and the algorithm of point positioning was made. also, the efficiency of GPS/GLONASS combination was presented by analysing the precision of 3D point positioning using C/A code and Yuma satellite orbit information.

  • Identification of compounds that function as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates or inhibitors can facilitate the selection and optimization of new drug candidates. The purpose of this study is to optimize the experimental conditions for in vitro P-gp assay using LLC-GA5 cells, which is a well-known transformant cell line derived by transfecting LLC-PK1 with human MDR1. The amount of rhodamine123 transported by the LLC-GA5 and LLC-PK1 cells was evaluated under the following experimental conditions: 3 different types of transport media, colchicine pretreatment or nontreatment of the cells in the culture media, and with and without poly-L-lysine coating of the culture plates. The assay sensitivity was found to considerably differ depending on the diluents used in the transport media. P-gp-mediated transport in LLC-GA5 cells was most clearly characterized in the Hanks' balanced salt solution based transport media. The sensitivity of P-gp-mediated transport was not changed by colchicine pretreatment or poly-L-lysine coating of the culture plates.
