Until now, Korean shipyards have accumulated a great amount of data. But they do not have appropriate tools to utilize the data in practical works. Engineering data contains experts' experience and know-how in its own. It is very useful to extract knowledge or information from the accumulated existing data by using data mining technique This paper treats an evolutionary computation based on genetic programming (GP), which can be one of the components to realize data mining. The paper deals with linear models of GP for the regression or approximation problem when given learning samples are not sufficient. The linear model, which is a function of unknown parameters, is built through extracting all possible base functions from the standard GP tree by utilizing the symbolic processing algorithm. In addition to a standard linear model consisting of mathematic functions, one variant form of a linear model, which can be built using low order Taylor series and can be converted into the standard form of a polynomial, is considered in this paper. The suggested model can be utilized as a designing tool to predict design parameters with small accumulated data.

This paper introduces GP(Genetic Programming) based robust corner detectors for scaled and rotated images. Various empirical algorithms have been studied to improve computational speed and accuracy including approaches, such as the Harris and SUSAN, FAST corner detectors. These techniques are highly efficient for well-defined corners, but are limited to corner-like edges which are often generated in rotated images. It is very difficult to detect correctly edges which have characteristics similar to corners. In this paper, we have focused the above challenging problem and proposed Genetic Programming-based automated generation of corner detectors which is robust to scaled and rotated images. The proposed method is compared to the existing corner detectors on test images and shows superior results.

This paper introduces GP(Genetic Programming) based color detection model for an object detection of humanoid robot vision. Existing color detection methods have used linear/nonlinear transformation of RGB color-model. However, most of cases have difficulties to classify colors satisfactory because of interference of among color channels and susceptibility for illumination variation. Especially, they are outstanding in degraded images from robot vision. To solve these problems, we propose illumination robust and non-parametric multi-colors detection model using evolution of GP. The proposed method is compared to the existing color-models for various environments in robot vision for real humanoid Nao.

This paper deals with a multi-stage TSK fuzzy modeling method by using Genetic Programming (GP). Based on the time sequence of sampling data the best structural change points of complex systems are detemined by using GP, and also the moving window is simultaneously introduced to overcome the excessive amount of calculation during the generating procedure of GP tree. Therefore, a multi-stage TSK fuzzy model that attempts to represent a complex problem by decomposing it into multi-stage sub-problems is addressed and its learning algorithm is proposed based on the Radial Basis Function (RBF) network. This approach allows us to determine the model structure and parameters by stages so that the problems ran be simplified.

This study is aimed to predict the behaviour of channel shear connectors in composite floor systems at different temperatures. For this purpose, a soft computing approach is adopted. Two novel intelligence methods, including an Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and a Genetic Programming (GP), are developed. In order to generate the required data for the intelligence methods, several push-out tests were conducted on various channel connectors at different temperatures. The dimension of the channel connectors, temperature, and slip are considered as the inputs of the models, and the strength of the connector is predicted as the output. Next, the performance of the ELM and GP is evaluated by developing an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Finally, the performance of the ELM, GP, and ANN is compared with each other. Results show that ELM is capable of achieving superior performance indices in comparison with GP and ANN in the case of load prediction. Also, it is found that ELM is not only a very fast algorithm but also a more reliable model.

In this paper, compressive strength of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) confined concrete cylinders is formulated using a hybrid method coupling genetic programming (GP) and simulated annealing (SA), called GP/SA, and a robust variant of GP, namely multi expression programming (MEP). Straightforward GP/SA and MEP-based prediction equations are derived for the compressive strength of CFRP-wrapped concrete cylinders. The models are constructed using two sets of predictor variables. The first set comprises diameter of concrete cylinder, unconfined concrete strength, tensile strength of CFRP laminate, and total thickness of CFRP layer. The most widely used parameters of unconfined concrete strength and ultimate confinement pressure are included in the second set. The models are developed based on the experimental results obtained from the literature. To verify the applicability of the proposed models, they are employed to estimate the compressive strength of parts of test results that were not included in the modeling process. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to determine the contributions of the parameters affecting the compressive strength. For more verification, a parametric study is carried out and the trends of the results are confirmed via some previous studies. The GP/SA and MEP models are able to predict the ultimate compressive strength with an acceptable level of accuracy. The proposed models perform superior than several CFRP confinement models found in the literature. The derived models are particularly valuable for pre-design purposes.

A combined CPG (Central Pattern Generator) based foot trajectory and GP (Genetic Programming) based joint compensation method is presented for the adaptive humanoid walking. The CPG based foot trajectory methods have been successfully applied to basic slops and variable slops with slow rates, but have a limitation for the steep slop terrains. In order to increase an adaptability of humanoid walking for the rough terrains, a GP based joint compensation method is proposed and combined to the CPG (Central Pattern Generator) based foot trajectory method. The experiments using humanoid robot Nao are conducted in an ODE based Webots simulation environmemt to verify a stability of walking for the various aslope terrains. The proposed method is compared to the previous CPG foot trajectory technique and shows better performances especially for the steep varied slopes.
The Main object of this research is directed to LG Oil company harbor in kwangyang-hang, where various ships ranging from 300 ton to 48000ton DWT use seven berths in the harbor. This harbor suffered from inefficient and unsafe management procedures since it is difficult to set guidelines for arrival and departure of ships according to the weather conditions and the current guidelines dose not offer clear basis of its implications. Therefore, it has long been suggested that these guidelines should be improved. This paper proposes a decision-support system, which can quantitatively decide the possibility of entry or departure on a harbor by analyzing the weather conditions (wind, current, and wave) and taking account of factors such as harbor characteristics, ship characteristics, weight condition, and operator characteristics. This system has been verified using 5$_{th}$ and 7$_{th}$ berth in Kwangyang-hang harbor. Machine learning technique using genetic programming(GP) is introduced to the system to quantitatively decide and produce results about the possibility of entry or arrival, and weighted linear associative memory (WLAM) method is also used to reduce the amount of calculation the GP has to perform. Group of additive genetic programming trees (GAGPT) is also used to improve learning performance by making it easy to find global optimum.mum.

Recently, some meta-heuristic algorithms, such as GA(Genetic Algorithm) and GP(Genetic Programming), have been used to optimize CNN(Convolutional Neural Network). The CNN, which is one of the deep learning models, has seen much success in a variety of computer vision tasks. However, designing CNN architectures still requires expert knowledge and a lot of trial and error. In this paper, the recent attempts to automatically construct CNN architectures are investigated and analyzed. First, two GA based methods are summarized. One is the optimization of CNN structures with the number and size of filters, connection between consecutive layers, and activation functions of each layer. The other is an new encoding method to represent complex convolutional layers in a fixed-length binary string, Second, CGP(Cartesian Genetic Programming) based method is surveyed for CNN structure optimization with highly functional modules, such as convolutional blocks and tensor concatenation, as the node functions in CGP. The comparison for three approaches is analysed and the outlook for the potential next steps is suggested.
