  • In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), SU (secondary user)'s transmissions are frequently disrupted by PU (primary user)'s transmission. Therefore SU expereiences consecutive retransmission timeout and its exponential backoff, and subsequently, the TCP of SU does not proceed with the transmission even after the disruption is over or the SU succeeds to hold an idle channel. In order to solve this problem, we propose a cross-layer approach called TCP-Freeze-CR. Moreover we consider a practical scenario where either secondary transmitter (ST) or secondary receiver (SR) detects PU's transmission, which results in the need of spectrum synchronization mechanism. All of our proposals are implemented and verified with a real CRN testbed consisting of 6 software radios called USRP. The experimental results illustrate that standard TCP suffers from significant performance degradation and show that TCP-Freeze-CR greatly mitigates the degradation.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method for a digital filter using software in order to analyze the radio astronomy observation data. Recently the analysis method for radio astronomy observing system is transferring from hardware to software by developing of state-of-the-art of computer system. The existing hardware system is not able to easily change the specification because it is implemented to meet special requirements and it takes a high cost and time. In case of software, however, it has an advantage to implement with small cost if open software is used, and flexibly changes to satisfy the desired specification. But, in order to analyze the massive data like radio astronomy with software, the good performance system is needed for computer. Therefore, this paper proposes a digital filter design method using software with the same performance as that of digital filter implemented with hardware in observation system which is operated by the KVN(Korean VLBI Network). To design a digital filter, the proposed method is performed with standard C language and the simulation is conducted with GNU(GNU's Not Unix) Octave and investigated to show its effectiveness. In addition, for the high speed operation of the designed digital filter, the SSE(Streaming SIMD Extensions) library is adopted for available parallel operation. By the proposed digital filter, the digital filtering is performed for the wide band observation data in the KVN observation mode, the filtering result of narrow band observation has no ripple inside of stop band, and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper shows a small and low-powered wireless communication system based on the ATSC broadcasting system using the ISM frequency band that can be used as a PBS(Personal Broadcasting System). It is designed to demonstrate a channel-adaptive CR(Cognitive Radio) system to provide a better service quality in the unlicensed band where co-channel interference exists. And it achieved very reliable communications by a closed-loop active phased array antenna. This ATSC-based personal broadcasting platform can be modified easily with given flexibility by using GNU Radio as an open-source signal processing platform based on USRP and implementing additional functions in FPGA. In addition, the chosen communication frequency resource can be managed and controlled by the return channel that transmits the channel status and communication parameters between transmission and reception in real-time.

  • Internet generalization has led to increased demands for Internet banking. Various security programs to protect authentication information are being developed; however, these programs cannot protect the wireless communication sections of wireless keyboards. In particular, vulnerabilities have been reported in the radio communication sections of 27 MHz wireless keyboards. In this paper, we explain how to analyze M's 27 MHz wireless keyboard. We also experimentally show that an attacker can acquire authentication information during domestic Internet banking using a 27 MHz wireless keyboard. To do this, we set up an experimental encironment to analyze the electromagnetic signal of a 27 MHz wireless keyboard.

  • This paper presents a comparison of communication performance between the reconfigurable beam-steering antenna and the omni-directional (loop) antenna during standstill and walking motion. Both omni-directional and reconfigurable antennas were manufactured on the same fabric (${\varepsilon}_r=1.35$, $tqn{\delta}=0.02$) substrate and operated around 5 GHz band. The reconfigurable antenna was designed to steer the beam directions. To implement the beam-steering capability, the antenna used two PIN diodes. The measured peak gains were 5.9-6.6 dBi and the overall half power beam width (HPBW) was $102^{\circ}$. In order to compare the communication efficiency, both the bit error rate (BER) and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were measured using a GNU Radio Companion software tool and user software radio peripheral (USRP) devices. The measurement were performed when both antennas were standstill and walking motion in an antenna chamber as well as in a smart home environment. From these results, the performances of the reconfigurable beam steering antenna outperformed that of the loop antenna. In addition, in terms of communication efficiencies, in an antenna chamber was better than in a smart home environment. In terms of movement of antennas, standstill state has better results than walking motion state.

  • There are many research to find not only user data but also physical information about objects or human in radio signals. And we can obtain physical information from the wireless signals such as RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator), Doppler frequency and other values. For example, the Doppler frequency is generated by the object moving physically in wireless signals used for communication. By analyzing the Doppler frequency, the moving speed and direction of the object can be predicted. In this paper, we study the previous research which is to detect the moving objects or human using wireless signals, 802.11a signals. We introduce and verify the method to improve the frequency domain resolution of commercial 802.11a receivers to observe the doppler frequency and obtain the information of the moving objects or human.

  • The purpose of this paper was to study how to improve the occurrence of abnormal altitude values of radio altimeter, due to RF interference signals during the flight of aircraft. In flight missions, since it performs a roll-out after several high maneuvers, accurate altitude must be displayed to effectively perform flight missions. Thus, a root cause analysis and trouble shooting were performed for the display of abnormal altitude values of radar altimeters, and a method of reducing RF interference signals by installing an attenuator was examined. Additionally, the verification results for the improvements are also described.
