This study was executed to evaluate the immune activity, nitrite scavenging activity and ABTS radical scavenging activity against extracts of various concentration of ethanol solvent from Codonopsis lanceolata cultured at 6 local regions. The immune responses from both human T and B cell line was significantly enhanced in the cell growth compared to control while the cell growth was influenced at a certain period of culture. The results revealed that the cell growth of both human T and B cell was altered in a time dependent manner. The nitrite scavenging activity of ethanol extracts from various solvent concentration of C. lanceolata were affected by pH. At a pH of 1.2, the nitrite scavenging effect of all of the extracts tested observed higher than that of the other two pH ranges. There was no distinct detection of nitrite scavenging effects of the pH range 6.0. The ABTS radical scavenging activity was progressively increased in a dose-dependent manner, and the activity was the highest in 100% ethanol extract. The result from this investigation suggests that the extract of Codonopsis lanceolata could be an addition to basic medicine for immune modulation and natural food additives.

Although the H.264 video coding scheme is popular, it is not efficient for high-definition (HD) video coding because the size of its macroblock is relatively small for the HD video resolution. In this paper, we propose a new intra coding scheme based on the enlarged macroblock size. For the luminance component, intra $4{\times}4$ prediction and intra $16{\times}16$ prediction in H.264 are scaled into intra $8{\times}8$ prediction and intra $32{\times}32$ prediction, respectively. For the chrominance components, intra $8{\times}8$ prediction is extended to intra $16{\times}16$ prediction. Along with the $8{\times}8$ basic coding block size, an $8{\times}8$ integer discrete cosine transform (DCT) is used. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves coding efficiency of the intra coding for HD video: PSNR gain by 0.23dB and bit-rate reduction by 5.32% on average.

In this paper, we present the fabrication of a high-quality diffractive-lens mold having submicron patterns, which is suitable for an ultra-slim optical system. In order to fabricate high-quality diffractive lens with a variety of submicron patterns, the multi-alignment method was used; high-resolution electron-beam lithography and FAB plasma etching were carried out to obtain the patterns. The most important key technology in the multi-alignment method is to reduce alignment error, lithography error, and etching error. In this paper, these major fabrication errors were minimized, and a high-quality diffractive lens with a diameter of $267\;{\mu}m$ (NA = 0.25), minimum pattern width of 226 nm, and thickness of 819 nm was successfully fabricated.
A scanning imaging spectrograph system was used in this study to retrieve readings of the 2-D distribution of $SO_2$ and BrO around the crater of the Sakurajima volcano in Japan. The measurement was carried out during the daytime on November 2, 2005. Measurements were made at the surface of the site, located 5 km from the Sakurajima crater. One hundred horizontal scans were performed. Each column scanned by the system consists of 64 vertical pixels in order to retrieve the spatial distributions of BrO and $SO_2$ in the plume in terms of slant column densities (SCDs). Measured spectra were analyzed to identify and quantify $SO_2$ and BrO in the volcanic plume utilizing the plume's specific absorption features in the ultra violet region. Two-dimensional BrO and $SO_2$ distributions in SCD were retrieved horizontally covering the upwind, crater and downwind areas, and vertically, including the plume in the center of the scanned image. Both horizontal and vertical dispersions of $SO_2$ SCD from the crater were successfully measured to be from $10^{17}$ to $4.5{\times}10^{18}$ molecules $cm^{-2}$. However, BrO was measured below $10^{15}$ molecules $cm^{-2}$, which is considered its background level.

We report here a case of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the stomach that was diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration cytology (EUS-FNA). A 67 year old male patient underwent regular check-ups for five years due to the presence of a submucosal tumor that was found in the fundus of the stomach incidentally. EUS-FNA was performed to evaluate the tumor, which had increased in size from 1 cm to 2.8cm. A cytologic smear revealed cohesive sheets or clusters of spindle cells with elongated nuclei. Immunohistochemical staining revealed a strong positive reaction for c-kit and CD34, without any reaction for smooth muscle actin and Ki-67. Therefore, a diagnosis of GIST was made.
This paper discusses important environmental issues that must be considered during shale gas development. Shale gas has been attracting many attention as the next key energy resource with its large abundance through easily accessible production fields, and its lower carbon dioxide & sulfur dioxide emission profile upon combustion when compared to the conventional oil and natural gas resources. Successful development of a shale gas field requires the use of hydraulic fracturing to recover hydrocarbon through the very tight shale formation, which has been frequently associated with environmental contamination issue of water, soil, and atmosphere. Therefore, environmental issues and their solution to minimize environmental impact should be considered for successful development of shale play in a future.

A Yagi antenna, which is a typical directional antenna, has been designed and fabricated as a surveillance sensor. The proposed Yagi antenna satisfies the requirements as a surveillance sensor; impedance bandwidth of 7.2-8.2GHz, maximum gain of 7dBi, and 3dB beamwidth of $60^{\circ}$ in the azimuthal plane. The proposed Yagi antenna is designed with 3 directors and one driven element on a dielectric substrate. Also, a microstrip-to-CPS balun is designed and applied to the proposed antenna for balanced feeding of the dirven element. The performance of the proposed antenna has been verified by comparing the simulation and measurement results.

Sophora flavescens Ait. (Fabaceae) is a medicinal plant widely founded in Northeast Asia, and its dried root (Kushen) has been used as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. The therapeutic effects of Kushen in micturition disorder was not investigated comprehensively yet. In the present study, we examined and compared the efficacy of three batches of Kushen extract using different ethanol content through an in vitro cell-based assay. Among them, we chose the batch with the highest efficacy and augmented the volume of extract for industrial purpose. The bulk extract was examined in its efficacy in the in vitro cell-based assay, and the therapeutic effects through an in vivo behavioral assay of OAB rats. The main components of the extracts were analyzed by liquid chromatography. Cytotoxicity of the extracts was investigated by MTT assay. The overall efficacy of the extract was as much as, or more than, kurarinone, a potent BKCa channel activator. Thus, the extract was a potent relaxant of urinary smooth muscle by upregulating the activity of BKCa channel. The Kushen extract could be explored as an alternative medicine against overactive bladder patients indicating severe dysfunction of BKCa channel.
One of biopolymer, β-glucan (BG) chains were crosslinked by citric acid under the heating condition for the adsorption of Pb and Cu ions in the aqueous solution. The variation of functional groups on BG itself and crosslinked β-glucan (CBG) with their surface adsorption characteristics were investigated by FTIR and SEM-EDX. Adsorption kinetic results showed that adsorption of Pb and Cu onto the CBG followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and intra-particle diffusion model. The Langmuir adsorption model was depicted better adsorption characteristics than the Freundlich model. The adsorption capacities of Pb and Cu onto the CBG estimated by the Langmuir model were 59.70 and 23.44 mg/g, respectively. This study suggested that CBG may act as an eco-friendly adsorbent for the adsorption of Pb and Cu in the aqueous solution.
A novel kinetic method for determination of $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ in ozone decomposition in water is described. In this study, potential interferences of $O_3$ and the hydroxyl radicals, $^{\cdot}OH_{(O3)}$, are suppressed by $HSO_3{^-}/SO_3{^{2-}}$. $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ formed in ozone decomposition reduces $Fe^{3+}$-EDTA into $Fe^{2+}$-EDTA and subsequently the well-known Fenton-like (FL) reaction of $H_2O_2$ and $Fe^{2+}$-EDTA produces the hydroxyl radicals, $^{\cdot}OH_{(FL)}$. Benzoic acid (BA) scavenges $^{\cdot}OH_{(FL)}$ to produce OHBA, which are analyzed by fluorescence detection (${\lambda}_{ex}=320nm$ and ${\lambda}_{ex}=400nm$). The concentration of $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ in ozone decomposition has been determined by the novel kinetic method using the experimentally determined half-life ($t_{1/2}$). The steady-state concentration of $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ is proportional to the $O_3$ concentration at a given pH. However, the steady-state concentration of $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ in ozone decomposition is inversely proportional to pH values. This pH dependence is due to significant loss of $O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ by $O_3$ at higher pH conditions. The steady-state concentrations of $HO_2{^{\cdot}}/O_2{^{{\cdot}-}}$ are in the range of $2.49({\pm}0.10){\times}10^{-9}M(pH=4.17){\sim}3.01({\pm}0.07){\times}10^{-10}M(pH=7.59)$ at $[O_3]_o=60{\mu}M$.
