LIDAR is a relatively new technological tool that can be used to accurately georeference terrain features, and also is becoming an important 3D mapping tool in GIS. In this study it is described the capabilities of terrestrial LIDAR that was used to build a 3D terrain model of extremely steep rock face, along with the useful data and examples of contributions terrestrial lidar has made to outcrop studies. For this, High-resolution terrestrial lidar acquisition, processing, interpretation are discussed and applied to mapping of geological surfaces in three dimensions. We expected that lidar is a tool with which we can improve our current field methods and quantify the observations geologists make.
This study used to the satellite photograph and drew up a flood inundation map. To past used digital map and showed reflect the inundation map and change of the city was difficult. The acquisition of the satellite photograph is easy from internet Site of Korea and is updated quickly. So, used the satellite photograph from flood inundation drawing up of existing and reflected the change of the city. Drawing up method of the inundation map in compliance with the research which sees the reflection of the land use which is actual is possible. Results of HEC-RAS with depth and an inundation location to be show easily. But there is to a combination method of the satellite photographs and GIS data and more objective and the subject the development of the technique which has reached fixed quantity must be researched continuously judges.
3D virtual modeling such as creation of a cyber city or landscape, or making a 3D GIS requires realistic textures. Automatic texture extraction using close range images is not yet efficient or easy in terms of data acquisition and processing. In this paper, common problems associated with automatic texture extraction from aerial photographs are explored. The ZI-buffer, which has depth and facet ID fields, is proposed to remove hidden pixels. The ZI-buffer algorithm reduces memory burden and identifies visible facets. The correct spatial resolution for facet gridding is tested. Error pixels in the visibility map were removed by filtering.
A lot of research on the application of GIS has been conducted in the field of water quality management. The function of a geometric data acquisition for reservoir and river models, however, is not enough to satisfy multiuser' convenience. CE-QUAL-W2 is a two-dimensional(2D) longitudinal/vertical hydrodynamic and water quality model for surface water bodies, modeling eutrophication processes such as temperature-nutrient-algae and sediment relationships. The purpose of this study is to analyzing which bathymetry information affects hydraulic results. There are consisted of three scenarios under consideration. The first scenario takes into account only tribatary type data such as Heoin and Okchen river. The second scenario, Heoin river constructs to tributary and Okchen river constructs by branch. Last scenario constructs Heoin and Okchen river by branch. The RMSE error results for the first, second and third scenarios are 0.61, 0.36 and 0.28 respectively.
Recently, there has been much interest in the middleware that can smoothly acquire and analyze Geosensor information which includes sensor readings, location, and its surrounding spatial information. In relation to development of the middleware, researchers have proposed various algorithms for energy-efficient information filtering in Geosensor networks and have proposed Geosensor web technologies which can efficiently mash up sensor readings with spatial information on the web, also. The filtering algorithms and Geosensor Web technologies have contributions on energy-efficiency and OpenAPI, however the algorithms and technologies could not support easy and rapid development of u-GIS applications that need various Geosensor networks. Therefore, we propose a new Geosensor network middleware that can dramatically reduce the time and cost required for development of u-GIS applications that integrate heterogeneous Geosensor networks. The proposed middleware has several merits of being capable of acquiring heterogeneous Geosensor information using the standard SWE and an extended SQL, optimally performing various attribute and spatial operators, and easily integrating various Geosensor networks. Finally, we clarify our middleware's distinguished features by developing a prototype that can monitor environmental information in realtime using spatial information and various sensor readings of temperature, humidity, illumination, imagery, and location.
High resolution satellite images are now widely used for a variety of mapping applications including photogrammetry, GIS data acquisition and visualization. As the spectral and spatial data size of satellite images increases, a greater processing power is needed to process the images. The solution of these problems is parallel systems. Parallel processing techniques have been developed for improving the performance of image processing along with the development of the computational power. However, conventional CPU-based parallel computing is often not good enough for the demand for computational speed to process the images. The GPU is a good candidate to achieve this goal. Recently GPUs are used in the field of highly complex processing including many loop operations such as mathematical transforms, ray tracing. In this study we proposed a technique for parallel processing of high resolution satellite images using GPU. We implemented a spectral radiometric processing algorithm on Landsat-7 ETM+ imagery using CUDA, a parallel computing architecture developed by NVIDIA for GPU. Also performance of the algorithm on GPU and CPU is compared.
The information system fields of spatial applications have rapidly grown during the last decade in Korea. Spatial data has been produced for a variety of systems without common standards until national GIS Committee defined the data exchange formats among spatial databases in the middle of 1990's. It aimed at promoting data sharing between the different systems in similar application fields. However, a considerable number of databases built prior to the introduction of the standards are not yet standard compliant but still play the roles of the main producers/consumers in the data collection field such as early developed huge AM/FM systems maintained by governmental organizations. The strong autonomy of these databases keeps their own data models, formats and descriptions from being standardized, which leads the sharing to a more difficult stage. Sharing is another way of data acquisition with least efforts and time away from direct collection. A data clearinghouse is the core module which directs users to the relevant data resources. The contents of datasets should be described with predefined metadata standards for precise indexing. Moreover, a number of technical problems have to be resolved for the common use of data between heterogeneous spatial database systems. However, the technical issues can be covered by the present information technologies. The difficulties persist in the political/institutional issues. Institutional issues are derived from the diverse sources such as political background, governmental policies, related laws and/or regulations. The paper will firstly make an analysis of current situation in terms of Korean policies, laws and regulations, secondly abstract the institutional issues from the situation analysis, lastly present guidelines for promoting spatial data sharing in Korea.

Recently, terrestrial photogrammetry has been applied effectively to data acquisition in GIS and to monitoring precise machinery for simulation test. Because 3-D coordinates of many object points can be quickly measured with constant accuracy and easy modeling by this method. In this study, the composition concerned with multi-camera system which simultaneously analyzes structure from multi-station using various cameras was developed. The errors of results were analyzed to investigate the accuracy of the system, error of unknown points and control points, convergent and strip adjustment for optimal network design also. As results of this study, the efficiency of multi-camera system developed here was proved through application to monitoring the entire area of the precise model ship. We could also acquire 3-dimensional coordinates with good accuracy by arranging pass points. Therefore, possibility of measurement of instantaneous deformation as well as precision analysis of structures can be suggested.

In the study, there has been a sharp upward trend in road maintenance cost as the expansion of road networks increases. Running a pavement management system(PMS) is indispensable for efficient and scientific maintenance of the whole road networks with limited maintenance budgets. With a PMS, a maintenance plan should be drawn up after surface conditions are precisely examined and analyzed. The majority of the present PMSs are run by the fact that experts first examine surface conditions on sites, and then enter results into systems. However, considering the actual circumstances of the present time and the increase in paved road hereafter, it is inefficient that experts examine the whole paved roads in person and long-lasting PMSs can not be kept up. As a result, after analyzing the accuracy of 3-D coordinates representing road surfaces that was decided using multi orientation and digital photogrammetry, the average of standard errors turned out to be 0.0427m on the X-axis, 0.0527m on the Y-axis and 0.1539m on the Z-axis. It was found to be good enough to be put to practical use for maps drawn on scales below 1 :1000, which are being currently made and used within the country, and GIS data.

In this paper, parameters related with partial discharge (PD) were analyzed in SF6 gas under AC and DC voltages. Three electrode systems (protrusion on conductor, protrusion on enclosure, and free particle) were fabricated to simulate PD defects in a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). All electrode systems were filled with SF6 gas at 0.5 MPa. PD pulses were detected using an oscilloscope and a data acquisition (DAQ) based on IEC 60270. To analyze the PD characteristics under AC and DC voltages, parameters such as discharge inception voltage (DIV), discharge extinction voltage (DEV), pulse magnitude, repetition rate, and T-F map were compared. From the experimental results, PD was revealed to have different characteristics under AC and DC, and these results may be useful for diagnosis of power facilities operated under HVDC.
