  • IT convergence and integration technology aims to create new synergies by combining IT related technology and performance. This study conducted a basic research for combining construction and IT technology to create new synergies. Specifically, the purpose of this study is to combine USN and GIS technology and then apply it to urban facilities management. For this, we have developed the USN hardware, tested propagation communications, and made the GIS Algorithm and a system. Existing sensor node allocation method is mostly to install in a random way or with in-situ survey, but the problem with this method is contradictory to cost effectiveness and efficiency. To solve this problem, we developed a new method for sensor allocation. Using this method, the USN technology could be applied in the range of city unit. This technology can be applied to the ubiquitous urban development such as U-City and Smart City.

  • Roadway construction planning processes involve a large amount of information on design, construction methods, quantities, unit costs, and production rates. GIS (Geographic Information System) is a strong tool for integration and managing various types of information such as spatial and non-spatial data required for roadway construction planning. This paper proposes a GIS-based system for improving roadway construction planning with its 'Spatial Analysis' and 'Visualization' functions. The proposed system cail help construction planner make a proper decision in a unique way by integrating design information and construction information within the system and creating design element modules for space scheduling purposes in real-time with its 'Interactive Planning' function.

  • During the last several years, the geographic information system(GIS) technology has emerged as a very effective tool for analyzing complicated groundwater system Linking GIS to spatially distributed hydrogeological data and groundwater models offers many advantages in the analysis of urban groundwater system. This paper describes the urban hydrogeological application of GIS in Seoul area. This study constructs an urban hydrogeological database via pre- and post-processing of various types of urban hydrogeological data, such as groundwater-level fluctuation, topogaphic data, water chemistry data, subway pimping station data, tidal effect of the Han River, and hydrogeological parameters. A hydrogeological model has been designed to enable importing data from the database and providing the model output for the repetitive manipulation and display in GIS.

  • South korea has been developing and managing the complete dimensions, around the rivers to rapid economic growth. In Korea, where water resources are scarce, administration and work are complicated and diversified in the computerization of related facilities and hydrologic data due to the indiscriminate development of river facilities. In general, dividing the water system based on object in remote sensing is relatively accurate in the image with the same spectral characteristics. However, the distinction between the reservoir and the river must be made manually due to the characteristics of remote sensing. Therefore, this study performed three classifications using GIS (Geographic Information System) to classify reservoirs and rivers. For the purpose of accuracy analysis, the land cover map provided by EGIS (Environmental Geographic Information Service) was used to evaluate the accuracy, and the average of 85.63% was found to be 75.40% of rivers, 89.50% of reservoirs, and 92.00% of others.

  • The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been applied to the microcomputer based Geographic Information System (GIS) data planes to model a soil erosion map for a county. The conventional method applied by US Soil conservation Service (SCS) has been tedious and time consuming process on a mainframe computer which yields a multisectioned, hard to interprete, line printer map of the each county's soil loss. The new approach proved to be an economical and efficient tool for the natural resource managers in their decision malting in land conservation practice. They can simulate the variety of conservation practices and assess the cost and benefit without physically implementing the conservation measures.7he new approach also can produce all the other graphical and statistical reports.

  • Web Map Service on mobile environment, provided with cost effective mobile GIS contents and user preferred POIs(Points of interests), is strongly required at this moment when mobile and portable Internet is rapidly spreaded on mobile user community as information technology and mobile HW are evolved in its speed, bandwidth and features. As the mobile and portable Internet becomes popular in mobile services, LBS(Location Based Service) is positioned on a mobile client as one of the best information infra services. Recently mobile GIS (Geographic Information System) comes in service to support LBS, but it is constrained and limited on its system configuration and its presentation methodology of a map, and also it depends on its run time environment. In this paper, we made an effort to design and implement a GIS computing platform with server based thin client for mobile WMS(Web Map Service). For its cost effective Platform which could be easily building up POIs and GIS contents, we're not using commercial GIS solution but NGII's (National Geographic Information Institute's) DXF numerical map, and representing the maps, GIS contents and POIs by SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) recommended by OGC(OpenGis Consortium). We're also adapting de facto standard of XML web service technology such as WSDL, SOAP to provide real time mobile GIS service on PDA as well as mobile terminal by applying a GPS receiver for a user's location information on mobile environment.

  • Geological map and data are needed for land use planning, resources development, geological hazard prevention, environment protection and education, Since the nationwide geological database in Korea has not been constructed yet, there are many problems in using the geological map and data. There are many problems such a stratigraphy unestablishment, map conservation and edge matching in geological paper map. Therefore it is difficult to construct the geological map database, but the geological map database must be constructed as soon as possible as one of national thematic map. In this study, geological maps of pilot area such as Ansung geological map on a scale of 1:50,000, Busan on a scale of 1:250,000, Namchang on a scale of 1:25,000 and the whole Korean peninsula on a scale of 1:1,000,000 were designed and constructed to database using Geographic Information System(GIS). In addition the geological map management program was developed by GIS program. The digital geological maps were produced using the constructed geological database. The database could be of access through Internet World Wide Web(WWW) environment and be distributed in Compact Disk(CD).

  • Case study has been criticized far its lack of generalization to the larger population and lack of sampling controls. Some of shortcomings of case study methods may be overcome, by using logically consistent, rigorous, and systematic approaches. Especially, Case study method has been suggested as appropriate for researching a range of GIS implementation, utilization, and diffusion issues. This paper provides examples of how the substance of its requirements may be met in the context of GIS case study. For the successful implementation of GIS, this study suggest that the case study method in GIS appropriate to the study of casual relations in and explication of complex GIS acquisition and adoption process.

  • A horticultural field database system is constructed for the intelligent farm management using GIS. The database system include both spatial and attribute data of the GIS that can be used as useful information for the farmers every year. The result of the research is summarized as follow; First, the system provides the position, attributes and spatial data of the horticultural farm through AML. Second, the user interface that composed of a basic function menu and application menu is easy to use. Third, the method which applicated overlay and analysis would be need to manage farming data in this horticultural farm and to develop a dynamic decision support system interfaced with GIS.

  • Recently, there have been many projects regarding restoration of streams to recover their environmental and ecological functions. For the restoration of streams, it is valuable academically and economically to evaluate the ecological condition of streams and build a plan and an object for restoring streams based on that. On the other hand, one of the methods to figure out the ecological condition of streams is to evaluate the hydromorphological structure of stream. In this study we have developed a field survey system using the stream assessment methode of LAWA (Laenderarbeitsgemeinschaft Wasser in Germany) that can assess the hydromorphological structure of small and medium streams. In addition, we constructed a GIS-based stream assesment system which can support auto mapping system and report writing, using the survey results. These systems are aimed to help people in the area of restoring streams perceive the natural and ecological condition of streams in the process of making plans and managing the projects, and they also try to help in collecting raw data to determine an ideal potential model to which an existing stream should be turned.
