  • The objectives of this study are to develop a green tourism potential evaluation method with rural amenity and demand of citizen. The new index which was named GPD(green tourism potential degree) is designed to propose the green tourism potential of rural areas using spatial analysis of geographic information system and spatial interaction of gravity model. And in order to evaluate the green tourism potential with supply side and demand side, two indices were defined; One is green tourism demand degree(GDD) which is developed to quantify a demand side potential by the analysis of urban population and urbanization index, and the other is green tourism attraction degree(GAD) which is developed to quantify a supply side potential by the analysis of rural amenity values using AHP algorithm, based on opinion of related experts. The developed method was applied to a part of Kyounggi province, Seoul and Incheon. All the study area's GAD, GDD and GPD were assessed and the proposed green tourism potential evaluation method could be used in developing rural development plans and green tourism policies considering spatial interaction with citizen and green tourism resources.

  • This study was carried out to estimate growth characteristics of hot pepper and to develop predicted models for the production yield based on the growth parameters and climatic elements. Sigmoid regressions for the prediction of growth parameters in terms of fresh and dry weight, plant height, and leaf area were designed with growing degree days (GDD). The biomass and leaf expansion of hot pepper plants were rapidly increased when 1,000 and 941 GDD. The relative growth rate (RGR) of hot pepper based on dry weight was formulated by Gaussian's equation RGR $(dry\;weight)=0.0562+0.0004{\times}DAT-0.00000557{\times}DAT^2$ and the yields of fresh and dry hot pepper at the 112 days after transplanting were estimated 1,387 and 291 kg/10a, respectively. Results indicated that the growth and yield of hot pepper were predicted by potential growth model under plastic tunnel cultivation. Thus, those models need to calibration and validation to estimate the efficacy of prediction yield in hot pepper using supplement a predicting model, which was based on the parameters and climatic elements.

  • Accordingly, attention is also being paid to the agricultural use of remote sensing technique that non-destructively and continuously detects the growth and physiological status of crops. However, when remote sensing techniques are used for crop monitoring, it is possible to continuously monitor the abnormality of crops in real time. For this, standard growth information of crops is required and relative growth considering the cultivation environment must be identified. With the relationship between GDD (Growing Degree Days), which is the cumulative temperature related to crop growth obtained from ideal cultivation management, and the vegetation index as standard growth information, compared with the vegetation index observed with the spectralreflectance sensor(SRSNDVI & SRSPRI) in each rice paddy treated with standard cultivation management and non-fertilized, it was quantitatively identified as a time series. In the future, it is necessary to accumulate a database targeting various climatic conditions and varieties in the standard cultivation management area to establish a more reliable standard growth information.

  • I conducted extensive analyses of daily weather data of precipitation and temperature monitored from the Surface Synoptic Meteorological Station in Seoul from 1 October 1907 to 31 December 2009 to understand how the climate is changing and the ecological implications for Seoul, Korea. Statistical analyses of the data, including the lengths of seasons and growing degree-days (GDD), showed a clear warming trend in the Seoul area over the study period. The mean daily temperature in Seoul increased by $2.40^{\circ}C$ over the period of one hundred years, which was about three times faster than the global trend and it was striking to notice that mean daily temperature in Seoul in recent 30 years was increasing with the rate of $5.50^{\circ}C$ per hundred years, which is an extremely fast rate of increase in temperature. In the last 100 years, an increase in the number of summer days was apparent, coupled with a reduction in the average number of winter days for about 27 to 28 days based on the analysis of mean daily temperature. Although the lengths of spring and autumn have not changed significantly over the century, early initiations of spring and late onsets of autumn were quite apparent. Total annual precipitation significantly increased at the rate of 2.67 mm/year over the last 100 years, a trend not apparent if the analysis is confined to periods of 30 to 40 years. The information has the potential to be used not only for better understanding of ecological processes and hydrology in the area, but also for the sustainable management of ecosystems and environment in the region.

  • The acrylic copolymer was designed and prepared for soft lens with high content. The copolymers were prepared using 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) as a monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA), glycerol dimethacrylate(GD), or glycerol 1,3-diglycerolate diacrylate (GDD) as a cross linking agent. The water content for high water content lens was 46%, which was higher compared to general purpose of 36%. The contact angle decreased from 38.6 to 34.4, which appears hydrophilic surface. The tensile strength decreased from 0.1 Mpato 0.08, then again to 0.05 as hydrophilic properties of cross linking agents increased. No phase separation was observed in the cross section of lens using scanning electron microscope. The real-time infrared technique was used in photo-polymerization. The initial polymerization rate increased from 0.6 to 0.9, depending on crosslinking agent.

  • In order to investigate the effect of sowing dates on some agronomical characters and yield of corn in southern part of Korea. a field experiment was carried out at Gyeongnam Provincial Livestock Breeding Station in chinju. Single cross hybrid corn (cv. Suwon #19) was sown from April 13 to June 2 with five-day interval in 1984 and 1984. The relationship between herbage and grain yield and various meterological measurements was evaluated. As the sowing dates were delayed. the days from sowing to seedling emergence were shortened, as more closely affected by the soil temperature at seedling emergence. growth period and was dependent on precipitation and temperature during the growth period. Based on the relationship between herbege dry matter yield of corn and soil temperature at seedling emergence, the estimated critical sowing date for corn in the southern Korea was March 23${\pm}$3.6 days.

  • This study aimed to assess the impact of weather events on the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolor L.) cultivar production trend in the central inland region of Korea during the monsoon season, using time series analysis. The sorghum-sudangrass production data collected between 1988 and 2013 were compiled along with the production year's weather data. The growing degree days (GDD), accumulated rainfall, and sunshine duration were used to assess their impacts on forage production (kg/ha) trend. Conversely, GDD and accumulated rainfall had positive and negative effects on the trend of forage production, respectively. Meanwhile, weather events such as heavy rainfall and typhoon were also collected based on weather warnings as weather events in the Korean monsoon season. The impact of weather events did not affect forage production, even with the increasing frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall. Therefore, the trend of forage production for the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid was forecasted to slightly increase until 2045. The predicted forage production in 2045 will be 14,926 ± 6,657 kg/ha. It is likely that the damage by heavy rainfall and typhoons can be reduced through more frequent harvest against short-term single damage and a deeper extension of the root system against soil erosion and lodging. Therefore, in an environment that is rapidly changing due to climate change and extreme/abnormal weather, the cultivation of the sorghum-sudangrass hybrid would be advantageous in securing stable and robust forage production. Through this study, we propose the cultivation of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid as one of the alternative summer forage options to achieve stable forage production during the dynamically changing monsoon, in spite of rather lower nutrient value than that of maize (Zea mays L.).

  • A total of 15 different corn hybrids, Kwangpyeongok, Gangdaok, Yanganok, Singwangok, Jangdaok, Cheonganok, Cheongdaok, Andaok, Dapyeongok, Pyeongkangok, Pyeonganok, Daanok, Sunwon 184, Gangilok, and P3394 was used to investigate the growth and yield depending on the sowing date. The sowing dates were April 5, June 25, and July 5 and each experiments was performed in triplicste. The growth of Gangdaok was the highest. However, although the growth of Kwangpyeongok, was lower thanthar of Gangdaok, its stem height to ear height ratio was lower than that of Gangdaok, thus, Kwangpyeongok may be more suitable for stable cultivation. Both growth and yield of Daanok were low, regardless of planting date, but yield and ear shape of Pyeongkangok and Dapyeongok were for fresh corn. Growth and yield of the 15 different corn hybrids varied depending on the planting date, However, the growth degree days (GDD) was the most important factor governing the maturity of corn. More than $1500^{\circ}C$ of GDD was sufficient to harvest mature corn hybrids in the central region of Korea. Besides yield and growth, other characteristics, such as sweetness and taste of the hybrids, should be investigated further the selection of the best corn hybrid.
