Taxonomic status of Goodyera rosulacea (Orchidaceae): molecular evidence based on ITS and trnL sequences (로젯사철란(Goodyera rosulacea: Orchidaceae)의 분류학적 위치: ITS와 trnL 염기서열에 의한 분자적 증거)

  • Goodyera rosulacea, which is morphologically similar to G. repens, is described recently as a new species based on its distinct morphological characters such as rosette-formed leaves, short rhizome and habitat. To verify the taxonomic identity of G. rosulacea and its taxonomic relationship within Korean Goodyera taxa, sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nuclear ribosomal DNA and the trnL region of cpDNA from 24 accessions including 1 outgroup accession were analyzed. Aligned sequences were analyzed using maximum parsimony and distance method, and the taxonomic identity and the taxonomic relationships among the related taxa were estimated by the existence of private marker gene and the phylogenetic tree of the aligned sequences. Molecular data indicate that G. rosulacea gas several private marker genes and shows monophyly in phylogenetic trees of both ITS and trnL sequences. the pairwise distance between G. rosulacea and the orher taxa of Korean Goodyera was 3.49-6.68% for ITS region and 5.05-9.53% for trnL region, indicating that G. rosulacea could be treated as an independent species. Therefore, our molecular data support the taxonomic of G. rosulacea as a distinct species of Korea. In phylogenetic trees, G. rosulacea formed same clade with G. repens, which has similar morphological characters with G. rosulacea, and showed the lowest pairwise distance with G. repens among Korean Goodyera taxa. These molecular data sugguested that G. rosulacea and G. repens are closely related taxa.

A Study on Improvement of Fire-resistant and Flame-retardant Properties of Silicone Rubber Composites Containing Perlite (펄라이트를 첨가한 실리콘 고무 복합체의 내화 및 난연 특성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, silicone rubber filled with environmentally-friendly perlite was prepared by mechanical mixing in order to improve thermal properties, such as heat and fire resistances. We found that the properties of silicone rubber composites depended on perlite concentration by various characterization methods. Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) indicated that the initial degradation temperature of silicone/perlite composite was higher than that of pristine silicone rubber. The gas torch test showed that the opposite side temperature of composite materials was remarkably low as compared to that of pristine silicone rubber. In addition, the composites containing 5 wt% and 10 wt% of perlite showed remarkable thermal stability at elevated temperatures according to the results of both fireproof furnace tests under the RABT condition and carbonization furnace tests. The images from a scanning electron microscope(SEM) showed the degree of dispersion of perlite in silicone rubber. Finally, it was confirmed that limited oxygen index(LOI) was increased with perlite concentration.

The Effect of Pulsatile Versus Nonpulsatile Blood Flow on Viscoelasticity and Red Blood Cell Aggregation in Extracorporeal Circulation

  • Background: Extracorporeal circulation (ECC) can induce alterations in blood viscoelasticity and cause red blood cell (RBC) aggregation. In this study, the authors evaluated the effects of pump flow pulsatility on blood viscoelasticity and RBC aggregation. Methods: Mongrel dogs were randomly assigned to two groups: a nonpulsatile pump group (n=6) or a pulsatile pump group (n=6). After ECC was started at a pump flow rate of 80 mL/kg/min, cardiac fibrillation was induced. Blood sampling was performed before and at 1, 2, and 3 hours after ECC commencement. To eliminate bias induced by hematocrit and plasma, all blood samples were adjusted to a hematocrit of 45% using baseline plasma. Blood viscoelasticity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit, arterial blood gas analysis, central venous $O_2$ saturation, and lactate were measured. Results: The blood viscosity and aggregation index decreased abruptly 1 hour after ECC and then remained low during ECC in both groups, but blood elasticity did not change during ECC. Blood viscosity, blood elasticity, plasma viscosity, and the aggregation index were not significantly different in the groups at any time. Hematocrit decreased abruptly 1 hour after ECC in both groups due to dilution by the priming solution used. Conclusion: After ECC, blood viscoelasticity and RBC aggregation were not different in the pulsatile and nonpulsatile groups in the adult dog model. Furthermore, pulsatile flow did not have a more harmful effect on blood viscoelasticity or RBC aggregation than nonpulsatile flow.

Improvement of the Adhesion Properties between Aluminum and a Parylene-C Film by Using the Duoplasmatron Ion Source (Duoplasmatron Ion Source를 이용한 Parylene과 Al의 접착력 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In order to improve the adhesion between poly-monochloro-para-xylylene (Parylene-C) film and Aluminum thin film, the surface of Parylene-C film was irradiated by ${O_2}^+$ and $Ar^+$ ion beam generated by duoplamatron ion source. The ion dose of $Ar^+$ and ${O_2}^+$ was changed from $5{\times}10^{14}$ to $1{\times}10^{17}/cm^2$ and the ion beam energy was 1 kV. Contact angles of water on Parylene-C modified by $Ar^+$ and ${O_2}^+$ ion irradiation decreased from $78^{\circ}$ to around $17^{\circ}$, and $9^{\circ}$, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows that the hydrophilic groups were formed on the surface of Parylene-C by chemical reaction between the unstable chains induced by the ion irradiation and oxygen ions or residual oxygen gas. The hydrophilic groups were identified as C-O bond, C=O bond and (C=O)-O bond. The cross cut tape test which was applied to characterize the adhesion between Al thin film and Parylene-C film modified by ${O_2}^+$ ions irradiation shows that the adhesion strength was improved as increasing ion dose.

A Clinical Analysis of Patients Who Visited Emergency Department due to Chemical Incident Occurred at Industrial Place: A Retrospective Study (산업장 화학 사고로 응급실에 내원한 환자의 임상적 고찰: 일개병원의 후향적 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand what kinds of chemical substances have been used annually and to investigate incidents that occurred due to chemical hazard release and to analyze statistically clinically chemical injury patients who visited one regional emergency medical center in Gumi city with documented references review. Methods: Annual chemical waste emission quantity (Kg/Year) (Cwep) was reproduced using national web site data governed by the Ministry of Environment and 5 years (from 1 .Jan. 2010 to 31. Dec. 2014) of medical records of chemical injury patients who visited our emergency department were reviewed retrospectively. By applying exclusion criteria, 446 patients of 460 patients were selected. Results: Dichloromethane, Toluene, Trichloroethylene, and Xylene were always included within Top 5 of Cweq. Six cases of chemical incidents were reported and in 3 of 6 cases involving Hydrogen fluoride were included during the study period. Male gender and twenties were the most prevalent group. Injury evoking chemicals were Hydrogen fluoride, unknown, complex chemicals (over 2 substances) in sequence. The most frequent site of wounds and injuries was the respiratory tract. Gas among status, intoxication among diagnosis, and discharge among disposition was most numerous in each group. Conclusion: There have been no uniform clinical protocols for chemical wounds and injuries due to various kinds of chemicophysical properties and ignorance of antidotes. Therefore conduct of a multicenter cohort study and experiments for ruling out chemicals according to chemicophysical priority as well as development of antidotes and clinical protocols for chemical injury patients is needed.

  • We examined the effects of four different types of cutting on the quality characteristics of sweet pumpkin. Two hundred grams of each of four samples were packed individually in polypropylene mm and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 9 days. Samples were evaluated for weight loss, change in hardness, color change, pH change, water-soluble materials, gas changes, and sensory evaluation. $CO_2$concentration increased during storage, whereas $O_2$ concentration rapidly decreased and then stabilized after 3 days. $C_2H_4$ was detected only after 3 days of storage, and steadily increased thereafter. The rate of weight loss steadily increased Analysis of Lab color space indicated no significant change in the L and b values, but an increase in the a value at the end of storage. Waster-soluble solids increased, but hardness showed no change. All the samples underwent a steady increase in pH. Samples cut into 8 pieces had the highest sensory scores.

  • Food irradiation is one of the successful modern techniques used to preserve food. However, it needs very careful control. Detection of irradiated food is of prime importance to facilitate global trade and consumer assurance, choice, and protection. This study was performed to evaluate the radiation-induced hydrocarbon content of dried squid and octopus by e-beam irradiation. The samples were collected from supermarkets all over South Korea and irradiated with an e-beam at 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 kGy doses. Lipids were extracted with soxhelt, and the hydrocarbons induced with irradiation were separated via solid phase extraction (SPE) and identified via gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The major induced hydrocarbons in the irradiated dried squid and octopus were 1-tetradecene and pentadecane derived from palmitic acid and 1-hexadecene and heptadecane from stearic acid. The concentration of hydrocarbons differed from the composition of the fatty acid at the same radiation and increased according to the level of the radiation dose. The hydrocarbons induced by e-beam irradiation, including 1-tetradecene, 1-hexadecene, and heptadecane, were confirmed to have been the irradiation marker compounds. Therefore, they can be used to distinguish the e-beam-irradiated dried squid and octopus from the non-irradiated ones.

Analysis of Blasting Vibration at the Irregular Layered Structure Ground (불규칙한 층상구조 지반에서의 발파진동 분석)

  • By comparing test blasting data experimented in three layered-structure polymorphic grounds to a geological profile, influence of blast vibration with respect to uncontrollable ground characteristics was analyzed. Inefficient blast have been performed without sufficient verifications or confirmations because insufficiencies with regard to experiments and data of blasting engineering on the layered structures to be irregularly repeated clinker layer consisted of volcanic clastic zones. It is difficult to quantify N values of clinkers within test blasting region because they have diverse ranges, or coverages. An absolute value of attenuation coefficient N in a field, estimated by blasting vibration predictive equation (SRSD), are lesser than criteria of a design instruction, meaning that vibrations caused by blast can spread far away, and the vibrational characteristics of blasting test No.1, indicating relatively small values, inferred by the geological profile, pressures of gas by the explosion may be lost into a widely distributed clinker layers by penetrating holes resulted from blast into vicinity of clinker layers located in bottom of soft rock layers at the moment of blast. As a result, amounts of spalling rocks are decreased by almost half. Also, ranges of primary frequencies in the fields are identified as similar to those of natural frequency of typical structures.

The Study on the Crystal Growing of Mn-Zn Ferrite Single Crystals by Floating Zone Method (Floating Zone법에 의한 Mn-Zn Ferrite 단결정성장에 관한 연구)

  • Mn - Zn Ferrite has physical properties of the high initial permeability, saturation magnetic flux density, and low loss factor as a representative magnetic material of soft ferrites, in addition the mechanical property is excellent as a single crystal. Therefore it is important electronic components and used for VTR Head. Mn - Zn Ferrite single crystals with the diameter 8mm were grown in atmosphere mixed with $O_2$ and Ar gas by the Floating Zone(FZ) method that impurities can not be incorporated to the crystals because of not-using the crucible to put in the melt, and the sharp temperature gradient results from making a focus at one point utilizing the infrared ray emitted from the halogen lamp as a heat source. During the crystal growing, the highest temperature of melting area was maintained to be $1650^{\circ}C$, growth rate and rotation rate were 10 mm/hr, 20 rpm respectively. The phases and the growth directions of crystals were determined from the analysis of X RD patterns, Laue, TEM diffraction patterns and etch pit shapes were observed by the optical microscope through the chemical etching. The corelation of optimum conditions for acquiring the better crystals was found out with the growth rate, the length and diameter of melt at the interface according to the diameter of feed rod, and the patterns of growing interface also studied.

  • In 1997, 180 countries signed the Kyoto Protocol in Kyoto, Japan. The Kyoto Protocol came into force in February 2005. The agreement calls for industrialized nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 5 percent from 1990 levels by 2008 to 2012. One of those polices is a modal shift that change from road freight to sea, inland waterway and railroad transportation that is eco-friendly. The increase of road freight brings road congestion, accidents, logistic costs, air pollution and greenhouse gases. Railroads are superior than the other modes of transportation in mass transportability, high speed, timeliness, safety and environmental-friendliness, but the railway industry has been pushed behind in competition. Korean railroads were used by passengers and freight transport popularly until the middle of 20th century, however, by the sudden change of logistics environments, a shaving time efficiency being most important, railroad logistic lost its competitive power against the transportation by truck. From the research which sees consequently investigated a various policy, a system and a law about Chinese logistics industry and present condition of the Chinese goods enterprise and instance analysis of the large Chinese corporation that branch out to undeveloped markets led and a Chinese logistics industry and problem point escape hereafter the heightening of competitiveness plan which is rational under prsenting boil.
