Pressure waves are generated when high speed train runs through the tunnels. These pressure waves not only affect passenger's health, but also can cause fatigue failures on the vehicle structure. The current high speed train should run on the conventional lines. In this study, pressure fluctuations by the high speed trains such as G7 Korea High Speed Train and Korea Train eXpress are measured in the cabin and the carbody surface when they pass through the tunnels. The measured results are analyzed and the related parameters are investigated.
Since the "Low Carbon, Green Growth" as a social requirements is attracted public attention, the policies and investments of the railway which have been less estimated than road is re-considered. Since the starting the commercial service (2004. April), the KTX have been operated successfully while transport passengers over 100million for years. And also the project for development of KHST (Korea High Speed Train ; G7) had been accomplished with a good result, the first trainset of KTX-II which base on G7 project was manufactured and testing now. On the other hand, the world's technology of the high speed train is more faster, and changing to a distributed traction system. To catch up the world's leading technology, the HEMU(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit) project will secure new technology and aims to promote the technology of domestic high-speed train. The authors indicates the result of detail review such as a curve, slope of the track and electrical dead section of the catenary to test at 400kph and also the performance simulation of the developed rolling stock in this paper. As the result, the authors devise the test scenario to perform a maximum speed test (stability at max. speed, acceleration & deceleration etc) with the restricted conditions such as track length, track available time etc by considering above result.

This study is to establish design method and evaluation technology for drive system appropriate to high speed tilting train. The transmission system of high speed train serves in the severe condition compared with those of KHST(G7), namely, they have to transmit high power to run with high speed and they have to make maximum use of the limited space. This paper reports the reviews and results of the design and evaluation method for reduction gearbox of high speed tilting train and discusses various design items and methods about assembly and parts of reduction gearbox.
Dawin Friction Corp. has been advanced sintered brake pad for Korean concept high speed train (so called G7 train) with KRRI, You Jin and Rotem without the assistance of foreign company. In the course of development, the evaluation of our and foreign disk pads was performed by lab scale dynamometer and full scale dynamometer. As the result of dynamo test, it is shown that our developed brake disk is equal or superior to those of foreign companies in many respects, for example, wear resistance, noise, etc. The new brake pad which is developed through 'post G7-project' is equipped with G7 train and is under many tests without any problems at the present moment.
High-speed train of push-pull type called as G7 train has been developed and chosen as the model of KTX-II which will be operated on Honam Line nexr year. However, the EMU-type high-speed train appeared to be the recent trend that foreign markets have shown. Also, in the near future, a great number of new train sets are needed to accommodate the increased passengers in our country. Thus, development of the high-speed EMU was decided, planned, and started. In the development, included were almost all fundamental key technologies such as noise and vibration reduction in a passenger cabin, running characteristics, aerodynamic analysis, crashworthiness evaluation, EMI/EMC analysis, design of the cooling system for the propulsion control system, enhanced performance of transformer and switching converters, synchronous traction motor with permanent magnets, new design of front nose and ergonomic interiors, application of advanced information technology(IT) and smart sensors and the cost reduction of construction of railway bridges, etc. Each key technologies are carried out as sub-project independently but under the supervision of a project. The project will develop the high advanced level of technologies and provide necessary know-why's and support the team in charge of the development of the high-speed EMU, Hyundai Rotem Co. Ltd. The high-speed EMU will be successfully developed with the support of the project.
An inverter-driven induction motor is usually adapted to the traction motor for a high speed drive system requiring safety, reliability, performance, compact size owing to the space and weight alloted for attaching to train, etc. and AC Traction motor for G7 train will be operated in the worst condition such as mechanical vibration, limited mounting space, severe thermal stress, inverter with non-sinusoidal voltage waveform, dust and so on. therefore, design procedure must be carefully carried out wi th considering the motor size, vibration and thermal expansion of rotor bars, insulation system, reliability of frame, as well as output characteristics. In this paper, we will inform the characteristics and design of the traction motor for G7 train and also analyze the test result of it.
The experiments for aerodynamic characteristics of railway acoustic screen are performed using 1/61 scaled-down moving model rig facility which employs an axis symmetry and one wire guidance method. The launching mechanism is an air-gun type. The train model for the experiment is the high speed train (Korea Train Express: KTX) and the tested speed is about 300 km/h. The tested train length is 61 em which is corresponding to two units of KTX train. The cross sectional area and weight of train model are 0.00264 $m^2$ and 287 g, respectively. The Reynolds number based on the model train length is $1.2{\times}10^7$. The strength of pressure wave is measured using piezo typed pressure sensor. The measured pick value of pressure was as high as 365 Pa in the shortest gap between the acoustic screen and model train. The measured pressure is well compared with the field test data of mc 779-1 [2] values. However, the experimental data were slightly lower than the mc 779-1 values. The results show the model test can be used as a substitute for the field test.
Korean High Speed Train(KHST) has been tested on the high speed test line in Osung site, since it was developed through the G7 Project Plan in 2002. It was also tested on the conventional line such as KyongBu and Honan Line to know the possibility of increasing the limited speed for the high speed trains. This paper introduces the method to improve the speed on the conventional line with body lateral acceleration among the several considered issues and explains the parameters related to those analysis, such as the cant deficiency, the radius of curve, speed and etc. When a train pass on the curved track, the lateral accelerations of body are divided into the quasi-static and the maximum accelerations according to the UIC 518 which is the international specification for testing and approval of railway vehicles from the point of view of their dynamic behaviour, especially for safety and ride comfort. This paper shows that it is safe and comfort from the results of test when KHST runs on the conventional line with the curves and proposes that the limited speed of conventional curved line could be changed to a little higher speed if the analysises of other fields are completed.
Proto-type Korean High Speed Train(HSR 350x) had developed in 2002 through G7 High Speed Train R&D project from 1996, had carried successful trial running test up to 350km/h and has been executing running test more than 0.2 Mil. kilometers of accumulated running distance to insure reliability on service line till July 2008. Even though the R&D project has finished by Oct. 2007, the proto-type train HSR 350x has maintaining various measuring functions and test facilities till now. So it may be needed a suggestion on the direction of practical use in public purpose of the HSR 350x. This study has suggested several directions of practical use in public purpose of the HSR 350x, and feasibilities for each alternatives of practical use in order to contribute making reasonable decision for practical use of the train in public purpose for the future.
