Long Term Monitoring of Storm Surface Runoff from Urban Pavement Road in Korea

  • Long term monitoring was conducted to investigate a surface runoff of pollution from urban highway. The monitoring data was collected for 18 rainfall events and was used to correlate pollution load to various parameters, such as rainfall intensity, antecedent dry days and total discharge flow. Runoff coefficient and seasonal variation were also evaluated. The mean runoff coefficient of the highway was 0.823(range; $0.4687{\sim}0.9884$), and wash-off ratio for $COD_{Mn}$ and SS loads was 72.6% and 64.3%, respectively. For the initial rainfall event, the runoff EMC of $COD_{Mn}$ was high in summer and the EMC of SS was high in autumn season. However the seasonal variation of T-N and T-P was not significant. The discharged $COD_{Mn}$-EMC was $147.6\;mg/L{\sim}9.0\;mg/L$ on the generated $COD_{Mn}$-EMC of $98.8\;mg/L{\sim}8.9\;mg/L$. While the generated EMC of SS was in $285.7\;mg/L{\sim}20.0\;mg/L$ and its discharged EMC was in $190.4\;mg/L{\sim}8.0\;mg/L$. EMC of pollutants was not directly related to the first flush rainfall intensity and the antecedent dry days. But the correlation was relatively high between EMC and cumulative runoff flow volume. The trend of EMC was reduced with the cumulative runoff flow volume.

직파 4 ~ 6년생 인삼의 연근 및 직경에 따른 Ginsenoside 함량 비교 (Comparison of Ginsenoside Content According to Age and Diameter in Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer Cultivated by Direct Seeding)

  • This study was carried out to investigate ginsenoside content in different root parts and the correlation between root diameter and ginsenoside composition of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer cultivated by direct seeding. The unit contents of ginsenoside were 29.65, 28.76, 26.34 mg/g, respectively in 4, 5, 6 years old. However, the total contents of ginsenoside were 431.97, 606.56, 657.80 mg/root, respectively. Total ginsenoside content of fine root was higher than that of main root and lateral root. These tendencies were related to decrease by the increase of root diameter. When diameter of main root and lateral root were the same in different ages, the total ginsenoside content was higher in the order of 4 > 5 > 6 years old roots. Except for ginsenoside-Rg1, other ginsenosides components (PD/PT and total ginsenosides) had highly negative correlation with the root diameter within whole root, main root, lateral root and fine root, which indicated that ginsenoside content is correlated to root diameter. As results, it is suggested that ginsenoside content can be predicted.

  • 공유결합 유기 구조체(COF)의 한 가지로서, 공유결합 트리아진 구조체(CTF)는 이온 열 삼량 체화 반응을 통해 제조된 반복되는 육각형 트리아진 고리의 네트워크로 구성되어 본질적으로 다공성 구조를 가진다. 또한 일부 화학 물질에 대한 친화성을 높이고 다른 화학 물질을 배제하는 많은 질소 작용기를 포함한다. 조절 가능한 특성 때문에 많은 연구자들이 기체 및 액체 분리 공정을 위한 CTF의 소재를 합성하고 테스트했다. 새로운 CTF, 혼합 CTF 복합재 및 CTF 멤브레인에 대한 다양한 연구가 기체흡착, 기체분리(예 : CO2, C2H2, H2 등) 및 담수화에 대해 연구되었다. 일부 CTF 연구는 고급 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 한계와 잠재력을 결정했으며 후속 실험에서는 광촉매 특성에 대한 CTF를 테스트하여 더 큰 지속 가능성을 위한 재활용 가능성을 제안했다. 이 총설에서는 공유결합 트리아진 구조체 기반 분리막에 대해 설명할 예정이다.

버섯류 추출물이 전립선 암 세포 내 PSA 발현에 미치는 영향 (The effect of the mushrooms extract on the PSA expression in prostate cancer cells)

  • 버섯은 영양소 및 풍미가 뛰어나 오래전부터 식재료로 널리 활용되고 있으며 항염증 및 항산화효능도 뛰어난 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 버섯의 항산화 효능은 아직 연구가 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 버섯의 항전립선암 효능을 분석하였다. 이를 위해, 식용버섯인 참송이버섯, 꽃송이버섯, 편각영지버섯, 녹각영지, 현미동충하초버섯, 잎새버섯, 석이버섯, 상황버섯 등 8종 버섯의 열수 추출물에 대한 항전립선암 효능을 전립선암 세포주인 LNCaP에서 확인한 결과 참송이버섯, 편각영지버섯 및 현미동충하초버섯이 PSA 발현을 저해하는 효능이 탁월한 것을 확인하였다.

Growth Performance, Carcass Composition and Meat Quality of Jiulong-yak (Bos grunniens)

  • Estimated liveweights, carcass characteristics, the proximate composition and amino-acid composition of the whole rib cut of the 10th/12th thoracic vertebrae have been determined for Jiulong-yak. The animal grows rapidly up to puberty at 2-3 years of age. At those ages, females reached 143.0$\pm$34.7 kg and 184.0$\pm$30.8 kg (SD) respectively, which was 60 to 80% of their mature weight at 6 to 7 yr old, then the rate of growth significantly slowed down. Males continued to rapidly increase body weight until an older age possibly due to the selection procedures. Animals included 20 males aged from 2.5 to 6.5 yr, seven females aged of 4.5 yr and 11 steers aged of 4.5-5.5 yr were slaughtered for carcass determination and chemical analysis of meat samples. Dressing-out percentage and ribeye area ranged from 48.53-55.04% and 48.02-68.56 $cm^2$ respectively, both of which differed by age and sex. Yak meat is scarlet in color and intramuscular marbling is poor. The 10th/12th rib-cut contained 24.99-31.93% dry matter; 19.98-22.58% protein; 2.52-10.86% fat and 0.93-1.00% ash. Meat from females and steers contained a higher percentage of fat than those from bulls. The pH of M. Longissimus dorsi measured at 24 h post-mortem ranged from 5.84-6.11. Amino acid composition was similar to that for other red meat, except for a lower content of methionine (1.26 g/100 g meat). The results indicated that yak meat can make a valuable contribution to the diets for the highlanders.

제주지역 중학생의 총당류 섭취실태 연구 (A study of total sugar intake by middle school students in Jeju Province)

  • 본 연구는 제주지역 중학생 1,184명 (남학생 476명, 여학생 708명)에게 24시간 회상법으로 식사조사를 하여 총당류 섭취량을 추정하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 조사대상자의 1일 총당류 섭취량은 전체 60.3 g, 남학생 50.5 g, 여학생 66.9 g으로서 여학생이 남학생보다 유의하게 높았다. 1일 총당류 섭취량 중 각 개별 당류가 차지하는 비중은 서당 (23.9 g) > 포도당 (12.9 g) > 과당 (12.3 g) > 유당 (6.0 g) > 맥아당 (3.3 g)의 순이었다. 2. 끼니별 1일 총당류 섭취량은 아침 6.5g, 점심 9.0g, 저녁 11.8 g, 간식 33.0 g으로 간식에서 섭취하는 양이 가장 많았다. 식품군별 1일 총당류 섭취량은 곡류 (23.0 g) > 우유류 (11.0 g) > 과일류 (7.3 g) > 당류 (6.1 g) > 채소류 (5.8 g)의 순으로 높았다. 음식종류별 1일 총당류 섭취량은 빵 과자류 (11.5 g) >면류 (10.2 g) > 유제품류 (7.5 g) > 빙과류 (6.2 g) > 음료류 (5.3 g) > 과일류 (4.5 g) > 튀김류 (3.2 g)의 순이었다. 3. 조사대상자의 1일 총당류 섭취량 60.3 g 중 천연당은 18.3 g (30.3%), 첨가당은 35.8 g (59.4%), 혼합당은 6.2 g (10.3%) 이었다. 총당류에서 얻는 열량비율이 20% 이상인 고당류섭취군은 20% 미만인 사람에 비해 탄수화물, 칼슘, 비타민 B1, B2, C의 섭취량은 유의하게 높은 반면 철, 아연, 니아신, 비타민 B6, 비타민 E 섭취량은 유의하게 낮았다. 단맛선호군은 단맛저선호군에 비해 열량, 탄수화물 및 총 당류섭취량이 유의하게 높았다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 보면 제주지역 중학교 2학년 학생들의 1일 평균 총당류 섭취량은 60.3 g이었고, 이중 첨가당으로 인한 섭취가 59.4%로 가장 많았으며, 간식으로부터 섭취되는 비율이 가장 높았다. 따라서 중학생의 총당류 섭취량을 감소시키기 위해서는 올바른 간식 식품선택에 대한 영양교육이 필요하다.

고출력 5 Watt LED기반 탐조등의 방열설계 (Thermal Design of High-power 5 Watt LEDs-based Searchlight)

  • The heat dissipation conditions of high-power 5 watt LEDs-based searchlight modules were optimized with varying LED bar'shape, materials, and ambient temperature. The LED junction temperature was estimated by using Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation. The optimal heat dissipation conditions were found as follows; LED bar' shape: L=80 mm, W=4 mm, t=10 mm, copper material, LED junction temperature of $116.6^{\circ}C$, ambient temperature of $50^{\circ}C$, total mass of 184 g, and shadowing area of $320mm^2$. The difference between the junction temperatures of our fabricated and simulated LEDs-based searchlight modules is about $3^{\circ}C$, which confirms the validity of our thermal simulation results.

Activated Carbon Performance for the Treatment of Diesel-Derived Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

  • This study assessed the performance of activated carbon (AC) amendment to treat polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) including both parent- and alkylated-moieties in sediment impacted by diesel. A field-collected, diesel-impacted sediment with a NAPL content of 1% was used for the study. No. 2 diesel fuel is weathered by heating at $70^{\circ}C$ for 4 days to obtain a weathered diesel sample having C3-naphthalenes to C2-phenanthrenes/anthracenes (N2/P3) ratio similar to the original sediment. The sediment samples spiked with the weathered diesel to obtain non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) contents of 1, 5 and 10% were contacted with AC with a dose of 5% as sediment dry weight for 1 month. By the AC-sediment contact, the freely-dissolved equilibrium concentrations were substantially reduced. Even for sediment with 10% NAPL content, the reductions in the freely-dissolved concentrations were 92% and 75% for total parent-and alkylated-PAHs, respectively. The effect of NAPL contents on the performance of AC was negligible for parent-PAHs, while for alkylated-PAHs, a slightly reduced AC performance was observed. The results suggest that the AC amendment can be an effective option for the treatment of petroleum-impacted sediment with relatively high NAPL contents.

이온 조사된 Cu/Ni/Cu(001)/Si 자성박막에 있어서 X-ray reflectivity를 이용한 계면 연구 (Interface study of ion irradiated Cu/Ni/Cu(001)/Si thin film by X-ray reflectivity)

  • 수직자기이방성을 가지는 Cu/Ni/Cu(002)/Si(100) 자성박막을 전자빔 증발법을 이용하여 초고진공에서 증착 하였다. 증착 시 RHEED로 측정 한 결과 실리콘 기판 위에 자성박막이 적층성장되었음을 확인하였다. 이러한 Cu/Ni/Cu(001)/Si(100) 자성박막에 1 MeV C 이온을 이온선량 2$\times$$10^{16}$ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$로 조사한 후 MOKE로 자기이력곡선을 측정한 결과 이온 조사에 의해 자화용이축이 수직에서 수평방향으로 변화되었음을 확인하였다 포항 방사광가속기를 이용하여 X-선 반사도와 Grazing Incident X-ray diffraction(GE) 분석을 수행한 결과 첫 번째 Cu층과 Ni층 사이의 계면은 이온 조사 후 거칠기는 증가하였으나, Cu와 Ni의 전자밀도의 대비는 더욱 명확해졌다. 그리고, 증착 후 Cu와 Ni원자의 격자 상수 차이에 의해 Ni층이 가지고 있었던 strain은 이온 조사 후 완화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 끝으로, 이온조사 시 자성특성 변화와 직접적인 관계가 있는 strain 완화, 계면 혼합층(혹은 새로운 상)등이 생성되는 기구를 탄성충돌 및 비탄성충돌에 의한 열화학적 구동력으로 규명하였다.

  • Cavitating flow simulation is of practical importance for many engineering systems, such as marine propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, etc. The present work has focused on the simulation of cavitating flow past cylinders with strong side flows. The governing equation is the Navier-Stokes equation based on the homogeneous mixture model. The momentum and energy equation is in the mixture phase while the continuity equation is solved liquid and vapor phase, separately. An implicit dual time and preconditioning method are employed for computational analysis. For the code validation, the results from the present solver have been compared with experiments and other numerical results. A fairly good agreement with the experimental data and other numerical results have been obtained. After the code validation, the strong side flow was applied to include the wake flow effects of the submarine or ocean tide.
