  • The one of important parameter involved in the calculation of internal radiation dose to the human body is the biological half-life of the radionuclide. The biological half-life is population specific and may differ from one population group to another. So the effective half-life of tritium exposure based on urinal bioassay measurement of Wolsong Nuclear Power Plants was investigated and studied.

  • The power spectral densities of run-length-limited(RLL) minimum-bandwidth(MB) line codes are obtained for some values of the zero probability of input data. They can be obtianed by implementing a computer program for the G.L. Cariolaro's algorithm. Using the program we calculate the power spectra of the known RLL MB line codes, such as VDB5, TIB5, VMDB5, RMD35, DRMD35, RMD45, and RMD33, and compare the characteristics of them. Specially, the relationship between eye widths and power spectra is analyzed.

A Novel Optimization-Based Approach for Minimum Power Multicast in Wireless Networks

  • In this paper, we formulate the minimum power multicast problem in wireless networks as a mixed integer linear programming problem and then propose a Lagrangean relaxation based algorithm to solve this problem. By leveraging on the information from the Lagrangean multiplier, we could construct more power efficient routing paths. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing approaches for broadcast, multicast, and unicast communications.

  • This paper deal with a CRM control method of DC-DC converter of increase its performance. It allows high speed switching in critical current region when driving converter to improve efficiency of converter.   • The world is moving towards a post-carbon society and needs clean and renewable energy for sustainable development. There are many methodological approaches which are helping this shift based on analyzed data about energy resources and which focus on limited types of energy including liquid fossil, solid fossil, gaseous fossil, and biomass (e.g. IPCC Guidelines, ISO 14064-1, WRI Protocol, etc.). We should also consider environmental impact (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions, water use, etc.) and the economic cost of the renewable energy to make a better decision. Recently, researchers have addressed the environmental impact of new technologies which include photovoltaics, wind turbines, hydroelectric power, and biofuel. In this work, we analyze the environmental impact with a carbon emission factor to present a correlation between $CO_2$ emission and the cost of energy resources standardized by the energy output. In addition, we reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as another methodology. Researchers who are studying energy systems have ignored the impacts of entire energy systems, e.g. the extraction and processing of fossil fuels. In power sector, the assessment should include extraction, processing, and transportation of fuels, building of power plants, production of electricity, and waste disposal. Therefore LCA could be more suitable tool for energy cost and environmental impact estimation.

Influence of rendering methods on yield and quality of chicken fat recovered from broiler skin

  • Objective: In order to utilize fat from broiler byproducts efficiently, it is necessary to develop an appropriate rendering procedure and establish quality information for the rendered fat. A study was therefore undertaken to evaluate the influence of rendering methods on the amounts and general properties of the fat recovered from broiler skin. Methods: The yield and quality of the broiler skin fat rendered through high and lower energy microwave rendering (3.6 W/g for 10 min and 2.4 W/g for 10 min for high power microwave rendering (HPMR) and high power microwave rendering (LPMR), respectively), oven baking (OB, at $180^{\circ}C$ for 40 min), and water cooking (WC, boiling for 40 min) were compared. Results: Microwave-rendered skin exhibited the highest yields and fat recovery rates, followed by OB, and WC fats (p<0.05). HPMR fat had the highest $L^{\star}$, $a^{\star}$, and $b^{\star}$ values, whereas WC fat had the highest moisture content, acid values, and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in the acid value, peroxide value, and TBA values between HPMR and LPMR fats. Conclusion: Microwave rendering at a power level of 3.6 W/g for 10 min is suggested base on the yield and quality of chicken fat.

  • Today's power systems operate near their stability limit and numerous incidents closely related to voltage instability phenomena have been reported. In addition. a world-wide fashion towards restructuring in electricity industry can worsen the trend of voltage instability. In this environment, finding exact voltage instability points of practical power systems is a main concern of power system engineers. This paper reports change of static voltage instability point with respect to various load model in the KEPCO system.
