The density of ATP-sensitive potassium($K_{APT}$) channels, that open as intracellular ATP concentration falls below a critical level, is very high in skeletal muscle surface membrane and those high density may imply that $K_{ATP}$ channels have very important physiological roles. To elucidate a role of $K_{ATP}$ in relation to fatigue, the modulating effects of potassium channel openers and blockers on the fatigue velocity(FV) of mouse extensor hallucis longus muscle(EHL) were investigated in vitro. Twitch contraction was induced by an electrical field stimulation (EFS: 24-48V, 20ms, 0.2-4Hz) and resulting contraction force was isometrically recorded. The twitch forces were gradually decreased to 25% of initial contraction force(ICF) in $37.52{\pm}1.55sec$($mean{\pm}s.e.m.$, n=135), indicating the fatigue phenomena. The mean velocity for development of the fatigue was measured during the period that twitch force decreased to half($FV_{0/0.5}$) and during the period from half to 25%($FV_{0.5/0.25}$) of ICF. The fatigue was induced once every one hour and the tissue response was stable for up to 4 hours. In control condition, ICF was $5.8{\pm}0.12g$ (n=144) and decreased to 50% of ICF with the mean fatigue velocity of $0.182{\pm}0.006g/sec$($FV_{0/0.5}$, n=135) and from 50% to 25% of ICF with $0.084{\pm}0.004g/sec$($FV_{0.5/0.25}$, n=135). Cromakalim($50{\mu}M$) significantly increased $FV_{0.5/0.25}$(n=4). Glibenclamide($IC_{50}>50{\mu}M$), $Ba^{2+}$($IC_{50}=10{\mu}M$), 4-aminopyridine($FV_{0/0.5}$, $IC_{50}=0.5mM$; $FV_{0.5/0.25}$, $IC_{50}=2mM$) decreased both $FV_{0/0.5}$ and $FV_{0.5/0.25}$ concentration-dependently up to 75%. $TEA^+$(30mM), E-4031($10{\mu}M$), tolbutamide(1mM) decreased $FV_{0.5/0.25}$, but apamin(300nM) and $TEA^+$(10mM) showed no significant effects. Our results suggest that activation of the $K_{ATP}$ channels may be major cause of $K^+$ outflux during development of the fatigue and the isolated EHL muscle could be an useful experimental preparation in studying the fatigue phenomena in skeletal muscle. In addition, the possibility of activation of delayed rectifier during the fatigue development remains to be studied further.
A portable RF HTS SQUID-based susceptometer was applied to the measurement of fatigue behavior for type 316L(N) stainless steel containing 0.04% to 0.15% nitrogen content. Strain-controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests were conducted at RT and $600^{\circ}C$ in air an atmosphere, and the magnetic moments were measured after the fatigue test using HTS SQUID. The magnetic moment of an as-received sample is higher than that of a fatigued sample in all the temperature ranges irrespective of the nitrogen content. The fatigue life decreased with an increasing test temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$, but increased at $600^{\circ}C$. The change of the magnetic moments by LCF test is attributed to the stress induced micro defects.

Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. The shot-peening method is used in order to improve the fatigue life of spring steel(JIS G SUP-9) which is used in suspension of automobile. The compressive residual is induced in this shot-peening process. This paper investigated the effect of the residual compressive stress on the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Main results are summarized as follows. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the level of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, it does not improve the fatigue life comparing when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

The highly maneuverable fighter aircraft such as F-22, F-16 and F-15have the high maneuverability to maximize the combat performance, whereas the high maneuver characteristics might degrade the pilot's mission efficiency due to fatigue's increase by exposing him to the high gravity and, in the worst case, the pilot could face GLOC (Gravity-induced Loss Of Consciousness). The advanced aerospace company has applied the various technologies to improve the pilot's tolerance to the gravity acceleration, in order to prevent the pilot from entering the situation of the loss of consciousness. Especially, the Anti-G Suit(AGS) equipment to protect the pilot against the high gravity in flight could improve the mission success rate by decreasing the pilot's fatigue in the combat maneuver as well as prevent the pilot from facing GLOC. In this paper, a control algorithm is developed and verified to provide an optimal air pressure to AGS according to the gravity increase during the high performance maneuver. This result is expected, as the key technology, to contribute to the KF-X(Korean Fighter eXperimental), project in the near future.

G-induced Loss of Consciousness(G-LOC) can be predicted by measuring Electromyogram(EMG) signals. Existing studies have mainly focused on specific body parts and lacked of consideration with quantitative EMG indices. The purpose of this study is to analyze the indices of EMG signals by human body parts for monitoring G-LOC condition. The data of seven EMG features such as Root Mean Square(RMS), Integrated Absolute Value(IAV), and Mean Absolute Value(MAV) for reflecting muscle contraction and Slope Sign Changes(SSC), Waveform Length (WL), Zero Crossing(ZC), and Median Frequency(MF) for representing muscle contraction and fatigue was retrieved from high G-training on a human centrifuge simulator. A total of 19 trainees out of 47 trainees of the Korean Air Force fell into G-LOC condition during the training in attaching EMG sensor to three body parts(neck, abdomen, calf). IAV, MAV, WL, and ZC under condition after G-LOC were decreased by 17 %, 17 %, 18 %, and 4 % comparing to those under condition before G-LOC respectively. Also, RMS, IAV, MAV, and WL in neck part under condition after G-LOC were higher than those under condition before G-LOC; while, those in abdomen and calf part lower. This study suggest that measurement of IAV and WL by attaching EMG sensor to calf part may be optimal for predicting G-LOC.

Purpose : This study was performed to find out the influence of the change on proprioception and coordination of the lower limb by experimentally induced paraspinal muscle fatigue, Methods : Twelve subjects(6 males, 6 females) with no history low back and lower limbs problem volunteered for this study. Subjects were pre-tested proprioception and coordination using the MR-FSS(Mornitored Rehab Functional Squat System). And then the subjects performed isometric paraspinal muscles contraction for induced muscle fatigue. Muscle fatigue was defined surface EMG(MP 150). After isometric contraction, the subjects were post-tested using the MR-FSS. Results : In comparison of coordination, deviation of concentric coordination was increased(from $0.50{\pm}0.13cm$ to $0.67{\pm}0.21$)(p<0.05) and deviation of eccentric coordination was also increased(from $0.51{\pm}0.15cm$ to $0.70{\pm}0.26cm$)(p<0.05). And deviation movement of proprioceptive test was increased(from $4.98{\pm}1.80cm$ to $5.69{\pm}1.98cm$), but there was no significant different(p>0.05). Conclusion : Fatigue of paraspinal muscles was decreased concentric and eccentric coordination of the lower limb.
The effects of thermomechanical treatments on microstructure and fatigue properties of 7050 Al alloy were investigated. The precipitation kinetics changed to a faster rate due to cold deformation employed in this special TAHA thermomechanical treatments including pre-aging, plastic deformation and two step final-aging. The G.P. zones in the under-aged condition were cut by dislocations and dissolved during the plastic deformation. During the low cycle fatigue, the T6' condition showed cyclic hardening behavior whereas the TMT5, TMT27 and T76 conditions showed cyclic softening at above 0.7% total strain amplitudes. The ${\Delta}K_{th}$ value of TMT27 was improved more than two times, compared with that of T76 condition. The T6' with small shearable precipitates resulted in the markedly high ${\Delta}K_{th}$ value. This is thought to be resulted from dislocation reversibility and roughness-induced crack closure due to planarity of slip.
Fatigue crack growth test or low alloy steel was performed in high temperature water. Test parameters were dissolved oxygen content. loading frequency and R-ratio ($P_{min}/P_{max}$). Since the sulfur content or the steel was low, there were no environmentally assisted cracks (EAC) in low dissolved oxygen(DO) water. At high DO, the crack growth rate at R = 0.5 tests was much increased due to environmental effects and the crack growth rate depended on loading frequency and maximized at a critical frequency. On the other hand, R = 0.7 test results showed an anomalous decrease of the crack growth rate as much different behavior from the R = 0.5. The main reason of the decrease may be related to the crack tip closure effect. All the data could be qualitatively understood by effects of oxide rupture and anion activity at crack tip.

Residual stresses can have a significant influence on the fatigue lives of structural engineering components. For the accurate assessment of fatigue lifetimes a detailed knowledge of the residual stress profile is required. Significant advances have been made in recent years fur obtaining accurate and reliable determinations of residual stress distributions. These include both experimental and numerical methods. The purpose of this study is to simulate peening process with the help of the finite element method in order to predict the magnitude and distribution of the residual stresses in accordance with the parameters, which are, e.g. shot velocity, shot diameter, shot impact angle, shot shape, distance between two impinging shots, and material parameters.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of a footbath program on heart rate variability, blood pressure, body temperature and fatigue of stroke patients with stroke-induced hemiparesis. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were 40 stroke patients, twenty for the footbath program and twenty for the control group, who were hospitalized in a long-term rehabilitation hospital in G city of Korea, from February to April 2014. The twenty participants in the experimental group received the intervention of footbaths and an educational program focused on the prevention of stroke complications; Collected data were analyzed by the IBM SPSS WIN 20.0 program using a t-test, ${\chi}^2$ test, Mann-Whitney U test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: Significant differences were found in heart rate variability, systolic blood pressure, hand and foot temperatures and fatigue between the two groups. But no significant differences were found in diastolic blood pressure, core temperatures, forehead temperatures, and hand temperatures between the two groups. Conclusion: The footbath program was an effective intervention for skin temperature change and fatigue reduction for stroke patients. Therefore, it is recommended that the footbath program can be utilized as an effective nursing intervention for stroke patients in long-term rehabilitation care hospitals.
