  • The interaction between methane and hydrogen premixed flames with the different equivalence ratio and global strain rate was investigated numerically in one-dimensional counterflow field. The OPPDIF code and GRI-v3.0 were used to simulate the interacting flames. Overall trends in the maximum heat release rates of $CH_4{^-}$ and $H_2$-side flame were examined with the variation of $a_g$. The interaction mode of the flames were classified according to the equivalence ratios and Lewis numbers of each flame and global strain rate.

  • This paper discusses hydrodynamic characteristics of cold circulating fluidized bed(CFB) in different solid mass inventories. Operating parameters of solid mass inventory, primary air and J-valve fluidizing air were varied to find out the effect on the flow fludization pattern. Experimental measurements were made in a 3m tall CFB that has 0.05m riser diameter and black silica-carbonate of particle sizes from $100{\mu}m$ to $500{\mu}m$ were employed as the bed material. The operating conditions of superficial gas velocity and J-valve fluidizing velocity were in the ranges of 1.39~3.24 m/s and 0.139~0.232 m/s respectively. The axial solid fraction and solid circulation rate of CFB were observed and compared with modelling through IEA-CFBC Model and commercial CFD code.

  • The importance of cost reduction has grown bigger to ensure the competetive power of products in the electric home appliances industry. Thus, it is necessary to assess the reliability due to drop-impact happenning in process of distribution of microwave ovens with the panel and cavity of thinner thickness for cost reduction. In the present study, the drop/impact simulation using the explicit code LS-DYNA3D has been carried out for improving the impact resistance of a microwave oven. This CAE-based design approach can be successfully applied to enhance the deteriorated dynamic behavior under the impact conditions of dropping height 70cm according to ISTA procedure 2A.

  • The most powerful technique for deducing the magnetic structure of the Sun is spectro-polarimetry. Detailed measurements of the polarization signal of the spectral lines (Stokes vector) allow us to infer the physical conditions in the solar atmosphere prevailing during the line formation. Inversion codes are the main tool to extract this information from the Stokes spectra. This study will focus on measurements of the chromospheric He I 1083.0 nm triplet and the photospheric Si I 1082.7 nm line. A spectropolarimetric data set of sunspots, obtained with the German Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) at the Teide observatory on Tenerife, is analyzed using an inversion technique. We will introduce the German Vacuum Tower Telescope and the inversion code HeLix, and will show data sets that are analyzed by HeLix.

  • It is necessary to know the accurate field distribution around the high power apparatus, in designing it. To calculate the field around electrodes, we use the Charge Simulation Method(CSM) among several numerical methods and develop the new "Field Analysis System", by which we can draw the shape of electrodes, save the drawing in ascii code and apply CSM on the data. In the Field Analysis System, we try several rules for arrangement of simulation charge on CSM and consider their accuracy.

  • The present work reports on a numerical simulation of a compartment fire. The fire was modeled using a simplified approach, where combustion is simulated as a volumetric heat release. Computations were performed with the commercial code CFX 5.6. Radiation was modeled with a differential approximation (P1 model), while turbulence effects upon the mean gas flow were dealt with a SST turbulence model. Simulations were carried out using a transient approach, starting at the onset of ignition. Results are provided for the temperature field time evolution, thus allowing a direct comparison with the analytical and experimental data. The high spatial resolution available for the results proved to be of great utility for a more detailed analysis of the thermal impact on the steel structure.

  • The influence of bi-directional earthquake-induced loading on eccentric (plan-asymmetric) building systems has been investigated. In the first part of the study, comparisons have been made with equivalent results from uni-directional studies. The results are important in developing analytical models appropriate to the formulation of design recommendations. It is concluded that for valid comparisons, both perpendicular horizontal earthquake components must be considered when using models with transversely-orientated elements. In the second part of the study, an assessment has been made of a simplified, unidirectional (lateral) design approach. For stiffness-eccentric systems, the latter approach gives accurate and reasonably conservative estimates of the critical flexible-edge deformation, but may under estimate the stiff-edge element ductility demand by a factor of two in the short-period range.
