DETERMINATION OF MINIMUM LENGTH OF SOME LINEAR CODES

  • Hamada ([8]) and Maruta ([17]) proved the minimum length $n_3(6,\;d)=g_3(6,\;d)+1$ for some ternary codes. In this paper we consider such minimum length problem for $q{\geq}4$, and we prove that $n_q(6,\;d)=g_q(6,\;d)+1$ for $d=q^5-q^3-q^2-2q+e$, $1{\leq}e{\leq}q$. Combining this result with Theorem A in [4], we have $n_q(6,\;d)=g-q(6,\;d)+1$ for $q^5-q^3-q^2-2q+1{\leq}d{\leq}q^5-q^3-q^2$ with $q{\geq}4$. Note that $n_q(6,\;d)=g_q(6,\;d)$ for $q^5-q^3-q^2+1{\leq}d{\leq}q^5$ by Theorem 1.2.

Biased Dopamine D2 Receptors Exhibit Distinct Intracellular Trafficking Properties and ERK Activation in Different Subcellular Domains

  • Biased signaling or functional selectivity refers to the ability of an agonist or receptor to selectively activate a subset of transducers such as G protein and arrestin in the case of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Although signaling through arrestin has been reported from various GPCRs, only a few studies have examined side-by-side how it differs from signaling via G protein. In this study, two signaling pathways were compared using dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) mutants engineered via the evolutionary tracer method to selectively transduce signals through G protein or arrestin (D2G and D2Arr, respectively). D2G mediated the inhibition of cAMP production and ERK activation in the cytoplasm. D2Arr, in contrast, mediated receptor endocytosis accompanied by arrestin ubiquitination and ERK activation in the nucleus as well as in the cytoplasm. D2Arr-mediated ERK activation occurred in a manner dependent on arrestin3 but not arrestin2, accompanied by the nuclear translocation of arrestin3 via importin1. D2R-mediated ERK activation, which occurred in both the cytosol and nucleus, was limited to the cytosol when cellular arrestin3 was depleted. This finding supports the results obtained with D2Arr and D2G. Taken together, these observations indicate that biased signal transduction pathways activate distinct downstream mechanisms and that the subcellular regions in which they occur could be different when the same effectors are involved. These findings broaden our understanding on the relation between biased receptors and the corresponding downstream signaling, which is critical for elucidating the functional roles of biased pathways.

FEEDLOT FATTENING OF SHEEP IN PAKISTAN

  • Ninety six Rambouillet ${\times}$ Kaghani intact male lambs of 18 months of age were divided into 6 groups of 16 lambs each, groups being G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, G-5 and G-6. Average liveweight of animals on different treatments at day 0 of the experiment was G-1 (24.68 S.D 3.35), G-2 (24.56 S.D 2.55), G-3 (24.53 S.D 2.90), G-4 (24.51 S.D 3.38), G-5 (24.58 S.D 3.58) and G-6 (24.81 S.D 3.43). Animals on treatment G-1 were fed only maize silage ad libitum, G-2 had been offered maize silage ad libitum plus 4.8 kg of commercial concentrate (Sona Vanda) per group, G-3 maize silage ad libitum plus 4.8 kg of crushed maize grain per group. G-4 lambs were fed oat silage ad libitum plus 4.8 kg of crushed maize per group, G-5 oat silage plus 4.8 kg of commercial concentrate per group and G-6 only oat silage ad libitum. The results showed highly significant differences (p<0.01) among treatment groups in silage intake throughout the feeding trial. G-2 group showed the highest silage intake while treatment G-4 showed the lowest silage intake for the first two months and treatment G-6 for the last two months. The results of growth rates (g/d/animal) showed that treatments G-1 and G-6, where no supplementation was given, had a weight loss throughout the feeding trial. However, weight loss in treatment G-6 was more severe than treatment G-1. Treatments G-2, G-3, G-4 and G-5 all showed weight gain however, treatment G-2 had the most gain. G-2 group also showed the highest wool production while G-6 the lowest. These results indicated that silage when made from full bloom crops of oats and silage fed alone without any supplementation causes weight loss in sheep. Supplementation with concentrates having 19% CP is far better than the crushed maize grain and maize silage is better than oats silage. Maize silage is superior than oat silage however, better performance could be expected if silages were made at the early bloom (dough) stage of plant maturity. The results indicate that treatment G-2 shows highest response while treatment G-6 the lowest. So the response of different treatments on both the parameters of weight gain and wool production is almost similar.

A REFINEMENT OF THE CLASSICAL CLIFFORD INEQUALITY

  • We offer a refinement of the classical Clifford inequality about special linear series on smooth irreducible complex curves. Namely, we prove about curves of genus g and odd gonality at least 5 that for any linear series $g^r_d$ with $d{\leq}g+1$, the inequality $3r{\leq}d$ holds, except in a few sporadic cases. Further, we show that the dimension of the set of curves in the moduli space for which there exists a linear series $g^r_d$ with d<3r for $d{\leq}g+l,\;0{\leq}l{\leq}\frac{g}{2}-3$, is bounded by $2g-1+\frac{1}{3}(g+2l+1)$.

해당화 줄기 및 뿌리의 주성분 분리 및 항산화활성 (Isolation of main component and antioxidant activities on the stem and root of Rosa rugosa)

  • 1. 해당화의 총페놀화합물 함량은 줄기추출물이 평균 7.8(g/100g, D.W.)이고 뿌리추출물이 평균 10.5(g/100g, D.W.)이며, 모든 시료에서 뿌리추출물의 함량이 높게 나타났다. 2. K-1의 줄기와 뿌리 추출물(0.5g)에서 주성분의 하나로 추정되는 S-4(84.1mg)과 R-2(70.0mg)의 화합물을 단리했고, 그 구조를 catechin으로 결정했다. 3. UPLC 분석에 의해 줄기추출물의 탄닌함량은 평균 752.5(mg/100g, D. W.)로, gallic acid 6.3, epicatechin 61.5, catechin 684.8이고, 뿌리추출물의 탄닌함량은 줄기의 약 2배 이상 높은 1676.0(mg/100g, D.W.)으로 gallic acid 6.8, epicatechin 160.3, catechin 1508.5로 나타났다. 4. 해당화의 free radical 소거활성에서 추출물의 IC50는 뿌리가 $13.7{\mu}g/ml$, 줄기가 $14.5{\mu}g/ml$으로 높은 소거활성을 나타냈고, SOD 유사활성은 $50{\mu}g/ml$의 농도에서 뿌리추출물이 평균 75.1%, 줄기추출물이 71.9%로써 높은 활성을 나타냈다.

CVD Graphene Synthesis on Copper Foils and Doping Effect by Nitric Acid

  • Graphene was obtained on Cu foil by thermal decomposition method. A gas mixture of $H_2$ and $CH_4$ and an ambient annealing temperature of $1,000^{\circ}C$ were used during the deposition for 30 Min., and for the transfer onto $SiO_2/Si$ and Si substrates. The physical properties of graphene were investigated with regard to the effect ofnitrogen atom doping and the various substrates used. The G/2D ratio decreased when the graphene became monolayer graphene. The graphene grown on $SiO_2/Si$ substrate showed a low intensity of the G/2D ratio, because the polarity of the $SiO_2$ layer improved the quality of graphene. The intensity of the G/2D ratio of graphene doped with nitrogen atoms increased with the doping time. The quality of graphene depended on the concentration of the nitrogen doping and chemical properties of substrates. High-quality monolayer graphene was obtained with a low G/2D ratio. The increase in the intensity of the G/2D ratios corresponded to a blue shift in the 2D peaks.

Fusarium sp.에 의한 D-Xylose로부터 Ethanol 생산 (Production of Ethanol from D-Xylose by Fusarium sp.)

  • D-xylose로 부터 에탄올을 직접생산하기 인하여 D-xylose를 유일한 탄소원과 에너지원으로 이용하는 균주들을 토양에서 분리하였다. 이들 중에서 에탄올 생산성이 가장 높은 균주를 선별하여 Fusarium sp.로 부분동정하였다. 이 균주에 의한 에탄을 생간의 최적 조건을 검토한 결과, 에탄올의 최대생산은 초기 pH8.0, 온도 33$^{\circ}C$, 기질농도 2%일 때 이루어졌다. 상기 조건하에서 최대 에탄을 생산량은 7.0g/ g 이었으며, 에탄올 수율과 균체 수율은 각각 0.35g/g(이론적 전환율 ; 68.6%)와 0.27g/g이었다.

Streptomyces sp.에 의한 포도당 이성화효소의 생성 (Formation of D-Glucose Isomerase by Streptomyces sp.)

  • Streptomyces sp. strain K-17의 포도당 이성화효소의 강력한 분비를 위해서는 inducer로서 D-xylose를 필요로 하고 있다. 그런데 D-xylose를 가하지 않고 1.0% glucose를 가한 배지에서 배양한 이성화효소 역가가 낮은 균체를 모아서 이것을 다시 0.05M인 산 완충액 (PH7.0)에 현탁시켜 0.5 % xylose를 가하여 호기적으로 해주었을 때 효소의 induction pattern을 조사한 결과 효소활성이 10시간까지는 처리 시간에 따라 직선상으로 증가하고 이에 비례해서 D-xylose의 양이 감소했으나 cell mass에 있어서는 거의 변동이 없었다. 이때 효소단백의 합성이 일어나고 있지만, 전 RNA함량에 있어서는 오히려 감소하였다. 이와 같이 질소원을 가하지 않는 non-growth phase에서도 효소단백의 합성이 일어나는 것은 세포내에 축적되어 있는 단백질의 turn-over에 의한다는 것을 starvation 실험에서 알 수 있었다. D-xylose 이외에 D-ribose, L-arabinose, D-glucose, D-mannose, citrate, succinate 및 tartrate는 inducer로서의 효과가 없었다. 효소의 induction시, D-glucose를 가했을 경우catabolite repression 이 일어났으며 succinate 나 citrate 에 의해서도 강하게 효소생성이 억제되었다. 이와 같은 현상은 growth phase에서도 마찬가지 결과를 나타내었다. Induction시, $Ba^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$$Co^{2+}$가 효소생성을 발전시켰으며, C $u^{2+}$, C$d^{2+}$, A $g^{+}$ 및 H $g^{2+}$ 와 같은 중금속이 효소생성을 저해하였고, mitomycin C 몇 penicillin G는 효소생성에 영향을 주지 못하였으나, actinomycin D, streptomycin, chlora-mphenicol 및 tetra cycline등에 의해 강하게 저해되었다. 또 p-CMB 및 uncoupler 인 arsenate와 2.4-DNP에 의해서도 효소생성이 저해되었다.

COMMUTING ELEMENTS WITH RESPECT TO THE OPERATOR Λ IN INFINITE GROUPS

  • Using the notion of complete nonabelian exterior square $G\hat{\wedge}G$ of a pro-p-group G (p prime), we develop the theory of the exterior degree $\hat{d}(G)$ in the infinite case, focusing on its relations with the probability of commuting pairs d(G). Among the main results of this paper, we describe upper and lower bounds for $\hat{d}(G)$ with respect to d(G). Here the size of the second homology group $H_2(G,\mathbb{Z}_p)$ (over the p-adic integers $\mathbb{Z}_p$) plays a fundamental role. A further result of homological nature is placed at the end, in order to emphasize the influence of $H_2(G,\mathbb{Z}_p)$ both on G and $\hat{d}(G)$.

Nutritional Constraints and Possibilities for Pig Production on Smallholders Farms in Central Vietnam

  • This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional situation of pigs kept in three ecological zones of central Vietnam: Upland, Lowland and Coastal Area. An interview-based questionnaire was made and surveys were conducted in 27 villages and data were collected from 1,200 participating households. The current study showed that amounts of feed and crude protein content in the diets for fattening pigs and sows are deficient for all three regions. Amounts of feed as DM (kg/d) fed to growing pigs of 20-50 kg BW was deficient by 0.54 kg (29%) in Lowland, 0.53 kg (28.6%) in the Coastal area and 0.42 kg (22.4%) in Upland. The deficiency in CP in the diets of growing pigs in this period (20-50 kg) was largest at 20.7 g/d (62.1%) in Lowland, following by 22.1 g/d (66.4%) in Coastal and 23.2 g/d (69.7%) in Upland. Amount of feed as DM (kg/d) fed to growing pigs of 50-90 kg BW had a deficiency of 1.26 (48.9%), 1.25 (51.2%) and 1.14 (51.5%) kg/d in Lowland, Coastal and Upland, respectively. The deficiencies in crude protein in the growing diet during this period in Lowland, Coastal and Upland regions were 27 g/d (68.3%), 29 g/d (71.9%) and 30 g/d (74.6%), respectively. The deficiency in DM intake (kg/d) of pregnant sows in the Lowland area was 0.3 kg (15%), 0.33 kg (16%) in the Coastal area and 0.47 kg (23.5%) in the Upland area. Crude protein content in the diet of pregnant sows raised in Lowland was 8 g/d (32.0%) deficient, in the Coastal region the deficiency was 11 g/d (42.7%) and in Upland this deficiency was 15 g/d (61.2%). The deficiency in DM intake (kg/d) of lactating sows raised in Lowland was 1.47 kg (31.1%), in the Coastal area this was 1.69 kg (39.2%) and in Upland it was most deficient at 2.46 kg (57.1%). The lack of crude protein content in the diets of sows raised in Lowland was 45 g/d (63.4%), in the Coastal region it was 46 g/d (65%), and in Upland it was 55 g/d (78.9%). The low input of feed in these areas is especially due to low quality and to the insufficient intake of nutrients by the pig. As a result, production and income of farmers are low.
