  • It is well known that the performance of a fuzzy neural network strongly depends on the input features selected for its training. In its applications to sensor signal estimation, there are a large number of input variables related with an output As the number of input variables increases, the training time of fuzzy neural networks required increases exponentially. Thus, it is essential to reduce the number of inputs to a fuzzy neural network and to select the optimum number of mutually independent inputs that are able to clearly define the input-output mapping. In this work, principal component analysis (PCA), genetic algorithms (CA) and probability theory are combined to select new important input features. A proposed feature selection method is applied to the signal estimation of the steam generator water level, the hot-leg flowrate, the pressurizer water level and the pressurizer pressure sensors in pressurized water reactors and compared with other input feature selection methods.

  • This paper presents a design method of fuzzy control systems by clustering the data in the subspace of the input-output produyct space. In the case of servo control, most input-outputdata are concentrated in thye steady-state region, and the the clustering will result in only steady-state fuzzy rules. To overcome this problem, we divide the input-output product space into some subspaces according to the state of input variables. The fuzzy control system designed by the subspace clustering showed good transient response and smaller steady-state error, which is comparable with the reference fuzzy system.

  • Welding technique is widely applied to general industry such as pressure vessel for chemical plant, pipe system, heavy industry, and automobile. There are some points which must be considered when robot system is used in welding automation process for productivity improvement. Welding quality is governed by heat input, and this quantity can be different according to shape, property, and thick of material . For desired heat input , weld input parameters such as welding voltage, current, and welding velocity must be determined with those consideration. Until now these parameters have been determined mainly by experience of operator. In this study, the size of welding zone was predicted by fuzzy rules were constructed from the relation between welding variables and weld pool size. Inverse model method which welding control input for welder is determined with optimum voltage and current by fuzzy controller is validatied by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose the Fuzzy Neural Controller with a Self-Organizing Map based on the fuzzy relation neuron. The fuzzy ndes expressing the input-output relation of the system are obtained by using the fuzzy relation neuron and updated automatically by means of the generalized delta rule. Also, the proposed method has a capability to express the knowledge acquired from the input-output data in form of fuzzy inferences rules. The learning algorithm of this fuzzy relation neuron is described. The effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy neural controller is illustrated by applying it to a number of test data sets.

  • The aim of this paper is to deal with a method to construct a separate fuzzy regression model with crisp input and fuzzy output data using a best response function for the center and the width of the predicted output. Also we introduce the crisp mean and variance of the predicted fuzzy value and also give some examples to compare a performance of the proposed fuzzy model with various other fuzzy regression model.

  • To improve the limitation of fuzzy PI controller when is applied to systems of order higher than one, a fuzzy PI controller that fuzzily resets or amplifies the accumulated control input according to fuzzy rules defined on (error, change of error) space is proposed. The proposed controller structure was motivated by the characteristics of fuzzy PI controller that it generally gives unevitable large overshoot in trial of reducing rise time of response especially when a system of order higher than one is considered. Based on the observation that the undesirable characteristics of the fuzzy PI controller is caused by integrating control input excessively, even though the integrator is introduced to overcome steady state error, we propose a controller that clear out or doubles integrated control input in a fuzzy manner according to the situation to reduce rise time as well as overshoot. To show the usefulness of the proposed controller, it is applied to the systems that are difficult to stabilize or difficult to get satisfactory response by conventional fuzzy PI controllers.

  • For minimum phase systems, the conventional fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) use the error and the change-of-error as fuzzy input variables. Then the control rule table is a skew symmetric type, that is, it has UNLP (Upper Negative and Lower Positive) or UPLN property. This property allowed to design a single-input FLC (SFLC) that has many advantages. But its control parameters are not automatically adjusted to the situation of the controlled plant. That is, the adaptability is still deficient. We here design a single-input direct adaptive FLC (SDAFLC). In the AFLC, some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy rules are adjusted by an adaptive law. The SDAFLC is designed by a stable error dynamics. We prove that its closed-loop system is globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and its tracking error converges to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulations using a nonlinear plant and compare the control performance between the SFLC and the SDAFLC.

  • This paper presents a new recognition and classification method for power quality (PQ) disturbances on the basis of pattern linguistic values. This method solves the difficulty of recognizing disturbances rapidly and accurately by using fuzzy logic. This method uses classification disturbance patterns to define the linguistic values of fuzzy input variables and used the input variables of corresponding disturbance pattern to set membership functions. This method also sets the fuzzy rules by analyzing the distribution regularities of the input variable values. One characteristic of this method is that the linguistic values of fuzzy input variables and the setting of membership functions are not only related to the input variables but also to the character of classification disturbance and the classification results. Furthermore, the number of fuzzy rules is equal to the number of disturbance patterns. By using this method for disturbance classification, the membership function and design of fuzzy rules are directly related to the objective of classification, thus effectively reducing the complexity of the design process and yielding accurate classification results. The classification results of the simulation and measured data verify the feasibility and effectiveness of this method.

  • In this paper we describe the method which optimizes the partition of the input space by means of measure of fuzziness for fuzzy neural network. It covers its generation of fuzzy rules for input sub space. It verifies the performance of the system depended on the various time interval of the input. This method divides the input space into several fuzzy regions and assigns a degree of each of the generated rules for the partitioned subspaces from the given data using the Shannon function and fuzzy entropy function generating the optimal knowledge base without the irrelevant rules. In this scheme the basic idea of the fuzzy neural network is to realize the fuzzy rule base and the process of reasoning by neural network and to make the corresponding parameters of the fuzzy control rules be adapted by the steepest descent algorithm. According to the input interval the proposed inference procedure proves that the fast convergence of root mean square error (RMSE) owes to the optimal partition of the input space

  • This paper presents a fuzzy modified PID controller that uses linear fuzzy inference method. In this structure, the proportional and derivative gains vary with the output of the system under control. 2-input PD type fuzzy controller is designed to obtain the varying gains. The proposed fuzzy PID structure maintains the same performance as the general-purpose linear PID controller, and enhances the tracking performance over a wide range of input. Numerical simulations and experimental results show the effectiveness of the fuzzy PID controller in comparison with the conventional PID controller.
