  • This paper describes new PID control methods based on the fuzzy logic. PID gains are retuned after evaluating control performances of transient responses in terms of performance features. The retuning procedure is based on fuzzy rules and reasoning accumulated from the knowledge of experts on PID gain scheduling. For the case that the retuned PID gains result in worse CLDR (characteristics of load disturbance rejection) than the initial gains, an on-line tuning scheme of the set-point weighting parameter is, proposed. This is based on the fact that the set-point weighting method efficiently reduce either overshoot or undershoot without any degradation of CLDR. The set-point weighting parameter is adjusted at each sampling instant by the fuzzy rules and reasoning. As a result, better control performances were achived in comparison with die controllers tuned by the Z-N (Ziegler-Nichols) parameter tuning formula or by the fixed set-point weighting parameter.

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid genetic algorithm for auto-tuning fuzzy controllers improving the performance. In general, fuzzy controllers use pre-determined moderate membership functions, fuzzy rules, and scaling factors, by trial and error. The presented algorithm estimates automatically the optimal values of membership functions, fuzzy rules, and scaling factors for fuzzy controllers, using a hybrid genetic algorithm. The object of the proposed algorithm is to promote search efficiency by the hybrid optimization technique. The proposed hybrid genetic algorithm is based on both the standard genetic algorithm and a modified gradient method. If a maximum point is not be changed around an optimal value at the end of performance during given generation, the hybrid genetic algorithm searches for an optimal value using the the initial value which has maximum point by converting the genetic algorithms into the MGM(Modified Gradient Method) algorithms that reduced the number of variables. Using this algorithm is not only that the computing time is faster than genetic algorithm as reducing the number of variables, but also that can overcome the disadvantage of genetic algoritms. Simulation results verify the validity of the presented method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new architecture of Information Granulation based genetically optimized Self-Organizing Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (IG_gSOFPNN) that is based on a genetically optimized multilayer perceptron with fuzzy polynomial neurons (FPNs) and discuss its comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization, especially information granulation and genetic algorithms. The proposed IG_gSOFPNN gives rise to a structurally optimized structure and comes with a substantial level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in conventional SOFPNNs. The design procedure applied in the construction of each layer of a SOFPNN deals with its structural optimization involving the selection of preferred nodes (or FPNs) with specific local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial of the consequent part of fuzzy rules, and a collection of the specific subset of input variables) and addresses specific aspects of parametric optimization. In addition, the fuzzy rules used in the networks exploit the notion of information granules defined over system's variables and formed through the process of information granulation. That is, we determine the initial location (apexes) of membership functions and initial values of polynomial function being used in the premised and consequence part of the fuzzy rules respectively. This granulation is realized with the aid of the hard c-menas clustering method (HCM). To evaluate the performance of the IG_gSOFPNN, the model is experimented with using two time series data(gas furnace process and NOx process data).

  • In this paper, we introduce a new Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNNS)-like structure whose neuron is based on the Fuzzy Set-based Fuzzy Inference System (FS-FIS) and is different from that of FPNNS based on the Fuzzy relation-based Fuzzy Inference System (FR-FIS) and discuss the ability of the new FPNNS-like structure named Fuzzy Set-based Polynomial Neural Networks (FSPNN). The premise parts of their fuzzy rules are not identical, while the consequent parts of the both Networks (such as FPNN and FSPNN) are identical. This difference results from the angle of a viewpoint of partition of input space of system. In other word, from a point of view of FS-FIS, the input variables are mutually independent under input space of system, while from a viewpoint of FR-FIS they are related each other. The proposed design procedure for networks architecture involves the selection of appropriate nodes with specific local characteristics such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial that is constant, linear, quadratic, or modified quadratic functions being viewed as the consequent part of fuzzy rules, and a collection of the specific subset of input variables. On the parameter optimization phase, we adopt Information Granulation (IC) based on HCM clustering algorithm and a standard least square method-based learning. Through the consecutive process of such structural and parametric optimization, an optimized and flexible fuzzy neural network is generated in a dynamic fashion. To evaluate the performance of the genetically optimized FSPNN (gFSPNN), the model is experimented with using the time series dataset of gas furnace process.

  • Recently various types of disaster monitoring system using smart-phones are under active studying. In this paper, we propose a system that automatically performs the disaster and fire detection. Additionally we implement the Arduino-based smart image sensor system in the web platform. When a fire is detected, an SMS is sent to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. In order to improve fire detection probability, we proposed a smart Arduino fire detection sensor simulation which searches the smart sensor inference algorithm using fuzzy rules.

  • In this paper, we design fuzzy inference-based deterioration diagnosis system through different image for rapid as well as efficient diagnosis of electrical equipments. When the deterioration diagnosis of the electrical equipment starts, abnormal state of assigned area is detected by comparing with the temperature of the first normal state of the area. Deterioration state of detected area is diagnosed by using fuzzy inference algorithm. In the fuzzy inference algorithm, fuzzy rules are defined by If-then form and are described as look-up table. Both temperature and its ensuing variation are used as input variables. While triangular membership function is used for the fuzzy input variables of fuzzy rules, singleton membership function is used for the output variable of fuzzy rules. The final output is calculated by using the center of gravity of fuzzy inference method. Experimental data acquired from individual electrical equipments is used in order to evaluate the output performance of the proposed system.

  • This paper compares performance of neural and fuzzy truck backer-upper control systems. Conventional controllers require a mathematical model of how outputs depend on inputs. Neural and fuzzy control systems offer a key advantage over conventional control systems. They are model-free controllers. Neural networks learn a control process by examples (training samples). Fuzzy systems directly encode designer's experience as IF-THEN rules. For robustness test, we gradually removed training samples for the neural controller, and fuzzy rules for the fuzzy system. The errors increased laster in the neural controller than in the fuzzy system.

  • This paper proposes a self tuning fuzzy inference method by the genetic algorithm in the fuzzy-sliding mode control for a robot. Using this method, the number of inference rules and the shape of membership functions are optimized without an expert in robotics. The fuzzy outputs of the consequent part are updated by the gradient descent method. And, it is guaranteed that the selected solution become the global optimal solution by optimizing the Akaike's information criterion. The trajectory trucking experiment of the polishing robot system shows that the optimal fuzzy inference rules are automatically selected by the genetic algorithm and the proposed fuzzy-sliding model controller provides reliable tracking performance during the polishing process.

  • In this study, a predictive fuzzy control algorithm to supervise the elevator system with plural cars is developed and its performance is evaluated. The proposed algorithm is based on fuzzy in-ference system to cope with multiple control objects and uncertainty of system state. The control objects are represented as linguistic predictive fuzzy rules and simplified reasoning method is utilized as a fuzzy inference method. Real-time simulation is performed with respect o all possible modes of control, and the resultant controls ard predicted. The predicted rusults are then utilized as the control in-puts of the fuzzy rules. The feasibility of the proposed control algorithm is evaluated by graphic simulator on computer. Finallu, the results of graphic simulation is compared with those of a conventional group control algorighm.

  • In this paper, Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy set theory is used to handle the uncertainty of students' knowledgeon domain concepts in an E-learning system. Their knowledge on these domain concepts has been collected from tests that were conducted during their learning phase. Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy user model is proposed to deal with vagueness in the user's knowledge description in domain concepts. The user model uses Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets for knowledge representation and linguistic rules for updating the user model. The scores obtained by each student were collected in this model and the decision about the students' knowledge acquisition for each concept whether completely learned, completely known, partially known or completely unknown were placed into the information table. Finally, it has been found that the proposed scheme is more appropriate than the fuzzy scheme.
