  • This study aimed to investigate key research areas in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) by analyzing trends and identifying emerging topics. To facilitate the research, a collection of 40,897 author keywords from 11,252 papers published in the past 30 years (1993-2022) in five journals was gathered. In addition, keyword analysis, as well as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and correlation analysis were conducted, utilizing variables such as the number of articles, number of authors, ratio of co-authored papers, and cited counts. The findings of the study suggest that two topics are likely to develop as promising research areas in LIS in the future: machine learning/algorithm and research impact. Furthermore, it is anticipated that future research will focus on topics such as social media and big data, natural language processing, research trends, and research assessment, as they are expected to emerge as prominent areas of study.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to review topic and survey methodological trends in 'The Journal of Information Systems' in order to present the practical guidelines for the future IS research. By attempting to conduct a meta-analysis on both topic and survey methodological trends, this study could provide researchers wishing to pursue this line of work further with what can be done to improve IS disciplines. Design/methodology/approach In this study, we have reviewed 185 papers that were published in 'The Journal of Information Systems' from 2010 to 2018 and classified them based on topics studied and survey methodologies used. The classification guidelines, which was developed by Palvia et al.(2015), has been used to capture the topic trends. We have also employed Struab et al.(2004)s' guidelines for securing rigor of validation issues. By using two guidelines, this study could also present topic and rigor trends in 'The Journal of Information Systems' and compare them to those trends in International Journals. Findings Our findings have identified dominant research topics in 'The Journal of Information Systems'; 1) social media and social computing, 2) IS usage and adoption, 3) mobile computing, 4) electronic commerce/business, 5) security and privacy, 6) supply chain management, 7) innovation, 8) knowledge management, and 9) IS management and planning. This study also could offer researchers who pursue this line of work further practical guidelines on mandatory (convergent and discriminant validity, reliability, and statistical conclusion validity), highly recommended (common method bias testing), and optional validations (measurement invariance testing for subgroup analysis, bootstrapping methods for testing mediating effects).

  • This research is aimed to create the foundations that a library can maintain solid roles as repository of human knowledge and achieve sustainable development in the era of the $4^{th}$ industrial revolution. First, we performed PEST analysis about domestic and foreign trends & cases about policies, libraries, librarians, and information services related to the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution. Based on the PEST analysis, we considered the changing trends about the various environmental factors surrounding the library, and derived the strategic implications for directions of the future library. For the leading system of library in preparation for the era of the $4^{th}$ industrial revolution, we re-established the roles and functions of the future library and proposed the establishment strategies toward the future library.

  • This study attempts to develop a methodology that analyzes patent applications to identify future skills, in particular in the sector of information security, recently into the spotlight. Matching skill elements from the International Patent Classification (IPC) with skill units from job analysis, the study tries to track trends in the skills needs based on IPC time-pattern. It then verifies the validity of the outlook for future skills needs by addressing the situation through the use of patents. The research assesses the usability of patent information for this type of analysis. While this study is limited to the information security sector by using Korean patent information, it can be expanded in the future to other areas and patents in the United States and Europe.

  • This study aims to describe the overall aspects of future technologies in Korea based on the new taxonomy of technology foresight ; Theme, Area and Paradigm. This taxonomy is designed to overcome and supplement several studies on technology foresights which are judged not to capture the whole aspects of future technologies. Future technologies in Korea will be influenced by the Information and Communication Technology Paradigm over 20-30 years, and by the Biotechnology Paradigm after that period. Expansion of researches in electronics, information and communication is noticeable features in engineering. The application of biotechnology technique and health/environment technologies are emerging in bioscience area. Also there appear new areas related to the trends of engineering and bioscience in natural science. Current research patterns focusing physics, chemistry and engineering in Korea should be changed to those of the advanced countries which emphasize bioscience. Time lag to the world frontier is over 5-6 years, but the lag is expected to be reduced. The shortage of manpower and research funds are pointed as the biggest barrier for the realization of future technologies.

  • This technical paper presents future missile trends and propulsion technologies necessary for the missiles. The views are based on open literature briefings of the United States and internet informations. These informations let domestic incorporations prepare technologies for the future. Political and economical environment has been changing worldwidely. More extensive role is required for the incorporations to increase the economic growth of our country. The incorporations should establish the long term product development strategy of their own to compete with foreign countries.

  • This paper identifies trends in research methodology due to globalization. Context in both research and in practice and forms the key perspective for modern methodology and theory. Ecological perspectives are a necessary condition for quality global research. Human ecology researchers must advance the role of interdisciplinary and inter-functional perspectives and be open to collaborative relationships. These researchers must work in teams across disciplinary and functional boundaries. The paper discusses directions for research within the context of trends at U.S. federal agencies with applications to globalization and family life. Trends include: (a) use of diverse but rigorous methodologies; (b) recognition of the research-practice-research feedback loop;(c) primacy of context and diverse sampling; and (d) connections of research to problem solving. The terms promoted recently such as ″relationships″, ″diversity″ or ″problem-based″ are ingrained in human ecology. Key aspects for research in the next decade will be: (a) seeking diversity in sampling; (b) seeking colleagues with different perspectives; (c) incorporating meta-analysis into our work; (d) seeking meaningful results; (e) utilizing varieties of research methodologies to address our problems; and (0 understanding that practice must continually change as a function of research.

  • With the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT), a computing paradigm shift from cloud to edge computing is rapidly taking place to effectively manage the rapidly increasing volume of data generated by various IoT devices. Edge computing is computing that occurs at or near the physical location of a user or data source. Placing computing services closer to these locations allows users to benefit from faster and more reliable services, and enterprises can take advantage of the flexibility of hybrid cloud computing. This paper describes the concept and main benefits of edge computing and presents the trends and future prospects for edge computing technology.
